Cheap tricks!
December 18, 2015

I signed up for audible.CO.UK free 30 day trial and a few days later I contacted them to cancel my membership. On day 29 I saw a charge on my Cc so I contacted them again. What I discovered was shocking! A duplicate account with audible.COM was created without my consent and without a Welcome message which I received for my co.uk account - the only one I signed up for and authorized. The customer support of both co.uk and. Com kept saying that their systems have no connection whatsoever but how come! So here are my big discoveries and beware!
1) Duplicate account has been created without my consent at the same time in the same day on. Com. WITHOUT any Welcome message!
2) The same book appeared in both accounts as added in the same day at the same time (I have never added it to the. Com account)
3) My billing details were on the. Com account which I never authorized
4). Com started billing me right on day 29 of my free trial
I chatted to them and they refunded one of the charges BUT it turned out they charged me twice and the Customer support agent did not mention anything about the 2nd charge!? Days later when checking the refund was actually processed I found out I was charged twice so I had to contact them again! Once this is over I will have to contact them again to be able to delete my BOTH accounts. Account deletion is not possible from their UI... Sigh...

I heard about this garbage from numerous podcasts and decided to check it out. Basically by signing up for the free trial you commit yourself to their monthly payment and killing your membership is a real mess. You will get error messages. You will get frustrated. Just leave it alone. Any positive reviews on this site were written by their employees. Ignore them.

I received an email from Amazon audible, and I accidentally clicked and subscribed audible without realizing it ( it charged through my amazon account, so I was not asked my credit card info).

I found out after being charged for two months. So I tried to listen to an audible book. Their software is REALLY HARD to use. I could not listen to audio book from my local PC.

I called to cancel to service. They only refund one month of my membership, because I downloaded one book which never uttered any sound.

NEVER try audible.com. It is a shame for Amazon to let it carry its name.

Audible does not even deserve one star.

Very limited selection. I have gold account and book prices are usually cheaper than what I'm praying per credit.

On 11/16/15 I was given an Audible gift card with a redeem code for 2 audio books. I followed the instructions, online, and it asked me to create an account. I did not want an account so, I called the toll free number that appears on the top left of the webpage.

I spoke to Chris, a service customer rep. He kept telling me that I had to sign up or won't be able to use the gift card. I kept explaining that the card did not explain that and that I did not want to have an account with anybody (Audible or Amazon), to no avail.

I asked to speak to a manager,. Joe P. Came on and after giving me his name said that he is a supervisor, He refused to give me his full last name, saying that P is as far as he was going to go. He claimed to be the "top of the ladder" person I can speak with, that the next level above him is the CEO. He claimed that his title was customer service manager (he just finished introducing himself as a supervisor?).

Joe P. Continued to spew the same info that Chris kept repeating. I proceeded to tell him that I understood how to redeem, that the issue was that there was no way to do it without creating an account and the card that was gifted to me did not say that anywhere on it.

Told him that this it was misleading, bordering on fraudulent. That if I purchased a card to give to someone as a gift, and that person did not want, or was not able to create an account the card became worthless. Further, one can argue that most of us would not return the card to the person that gifted it, not to seem ungrateful, making the money paid for the purchase, in essence, a steal.

What a racket!

You should never use the word FREE. Free means getting something without giving something in return. Why do you want my bank information if it's free. There's the first flag.
If your company is legitimate, have a site that lets anyone read free for 30 days and another site if that person(s) wants to continue reading for a fee. Anything different from this format is (99%) dishonest.

Here's some strategies they use to scam you:

1/ Sign you up on free 30-day trial, start charging you after 30-days without any email reminders or billing notifications

2/ Make a switch to use Amazon accounts so people have two Audible accounts
- Make logging into non-Amazon accounts as non-obvious as possible
- Once user finds how to login using non-Amazon account make the "Cancel My Subscription" link redirect back to the Amazon login page.
- Make the "Login with a non-Amazon account" login on the "Cancel My Subscription" page redirect back to the Amazon login page
- Make the option to link a non Audible account online to an Amazon account always fail ( "We are unable to complete the process at this time. Please contact Customer Service.") forcing the user to interact with Customer service (see below)
- BONUS Scam! Pick up CC details from Amazon accounts with matching email addresses and start charging inactive accounts again

3/ BONUS Scam for Australians: Add audible.com.au
- Make the. Com site inaccessible from Australia
- Ensure that Australian customer service agents have no visibility to accounts created on the. Com site

4/ Make US Customer service as painful as possible
- Add long wait time
- Use agents with poor English skills
- Put people who have payment issues on hold for 3 minutes and silently disconnect them after 30 minutes

I am usually a believer in Hanlon's razor, but malice or stupidity something is really screwy at Audible.

Today my wife was checking our bank account and realized there were charges for the past three months we were not aware of. After calling the toll free number and speaking to Audible.com I was informed I had signed up for a free trial. I honestly cannot imagine this for one reason. I do not like to listen to books on the computer, so I would never have subscribed to this site. I checked my account and found I had ordered a bible version which would take 98 hrs to listen to. I have in my office approx. 30 bibles of different translations plus a bible program with 25 bible translations, Greek and Hebrew resources, 24 commentaries bible dictionaries and much, much more. NOW GET REAL! Would I have paid to order a bible on line? One point of evidence is this, if I ordered the bible 7/22/2015 wouldn't I have downloaded it or at least listened to a small portion by now?. DUUU. I supposedly signed up but never opened my purchase one time, not once. What kind of ding bat would do such a thing? Maybe I just had extra money to give away. When I spoke to the representative she told me there is fine print which I must have overlooked. One question concerning that comment, if my site is so legitimate then why do I have to have very small print for someone to read? She also told me it is understandable of why I did not read the small print because she had done the same thing. I could care less why somebody does or doesn't do something. Is her comment suppose to make me feel better? That doesn't change the fact that I have been charged for three months for nothing. My advise is, read the numerous reviews before you deal with Audible.com. After reviewing the ratings, you probably will move on.

What a scam, stay away.
October 27, 2015

I just found out that I have been being charged by Audible for years. I remember a couple years ago discovering this but because I had just changed bank cards (which i do on a regular basis so this can't happen) I decided to just let it it go. And then just discovered it again! How could they get my account information? Apparently they steal it from Amazon and it is somehow authorized by Amazon because they are a part of Amazon. But this card is under my name and my name only and the audible account was under my husbands name. My husband had looked at the site but audible is telling me that he downloaded a book but my husband assures me he never ever did. He remembers looking at the site but that is all. The audible chat lady was very helpful to the extent of returning 4 months of charges and helping me figure out how this was happening but I will never ever order anything from Amazon again. And it still doesn't make sense because my new account information was only added under my amazon account associated with my email address but somehow audible got my account information thru his audible account associated with his email address. They save your account information and I don't believe I ever authorized them to do that and then pass it on when you use a new credit card. I have a very hard time believing this is legal. I am going to determine how much money has been stolen and then request that audible refund the remainder of it. I am going to complain to Amazon and write a nasty review so people know what they are doing, then deal with my bank and credit card company.

Stay away from it
October 25, 2015

I had a trial running last year and canceled it as the app would drain the battery of my smartphone so badly, it was ridiculous. How can an audio book app cost so much energy that after listening to an audiobook for 1 hour, 40% of my battery is drained on a new phone?

Then I went ahead and canceled the subscription. Many months later I found out they had continued to deduct a membership fee despite my termination. I have never used their service again. They must have noticed that and still did not inform me. I can only recommend everyone to stay away from such a company.

Update to 'scam'
October 5, 2015

Since my recent review posted on here regarding audible, and how I believed they were a scam, the issue has been resolved. My account can now be cancelled. Meanwhile I received a reply to my review, from audible. They were very polite and professional in reaction to being called 'scammers' and wanted to resolve the matter for me. I would like to give back some of the credit I have taken away from audible, I no longer believe they are a scam, just not the right company for me on my smartphone. Although I found using them stressful, I think many people will probably enjoy their service. I would not have retracted my opinion, had audible not been polite and helpful in response to my complaint.

Rip-off
October 2, 2015

The worst company. I paid for 10 months of this product with no notification or email from them. They automatically gain access to your debit accounts from Amazon. Super unhelpful when calling to cancel my service. The lady was full of polite BS when I asked how I signed up and did I even download any books, I hadn't downloaded anything, yet they still charged me $160. My fault should have checked my bank account more thoroughly. DO NOT sign up for the free trial they bank on you forgetting to close it.

I found listening to books annoying and the stories too slow to enjoy at all. I used about 1 hour of a 3-month trial period. I thought I was cancelling a half-month early, but I was charged for 3 months of no service used.

Ok, but problematic
September 27, 2015

I tried the 30-day free trial, and no issues getting my two free books. I decided it wasn't worth the $15 a month to continue, so I tried to cancel online. Every time I logged in, it just kept taking me back to a screen telling me log in. I know the password was correct since it's my Amazon password, which I use frequently. I had to call to cancel. I hate dealing with customer service via phone calls to the point that I would not have signed up if I'd known that I would have to call to cancel. In the end, I was able to cancel without much push back from their customer service, but it took so long to figure out how that I was charged for another month and I did not get my free book for that month. If I sign up online, I think it's reasonable to expect to be able to cancel online.

Please avoid Audible all costs - tried to download both the player and purchased books 5 times without success - technical help were anything but, but after cocking up the instructions on what to do wanted to access my personal PC to have a look!

Overpriced, impossible to play, impossible to import to any other device or player, i've wasted over 2 hours of my life trying to sort this out with online tech support.

AVOID!

Audible has charged my credit card for a service I never signed up for nor did I ever use. They charged 5 months of different charges and the only way they could have gotten my credit card info is from Amazon. Like others my credit card had an expired date but somehow they are able to keep charging. My bank has filed fraud charges against audible to get my money back. Because of audible I have had to cancel my credit card and I have deleted my other card Amazon has on file. From reading other sites this has been going on for years and they are still in business. Seems Amazon doesn't care about its customers or they would have done something about this a long time ago.

September 10, 2015

Getting angry because of an unknown charge or scam? Have you tried asking yourself if you are so stupid lending your credit cards to your family members, friends and officemates? Careless. App not working? Gosh, the world is changing and so small things like this.

TECHNOLOGY AND INNOVATION PEOPLE! Try to adopt the changes, PATIENCE! GUYS IT IS NOT JUST FREE TRIAL! IT IS 30 DAY FREE TRIAL! IT IS A TRIAL! YOU CAN TRY IT FOR 30 DAYS! BLINDED BECAUSE THERE IS A WORD "FREE" ON IT. GOSH. REMEMBER THAT YOU ARE NOTR THE ONLY CUSTOMER OF AUDIBLE. TRY TO MAKE SOME EXEMPTION. YOU NEED THEIR HELP, SO YOU NEED PATIENCE.

Do you think that they can do magic? NO.

I got an audible account and been a member for a long time. Even their customer service is perfectly fine! You just need to understand the situation that YOU ARE NOT THE ONLY CUSTOMER THEY ARE SPEAKING WITH.

When you subscribe to Amazon Prime, which includes e-books, music, apps, etc. the service was outstanding! When Audible was introduced "Thanks2Net" with almost every book (with VERY few exceptions) Amazon now asks every single time if you want to sign up for Audible. With some of the "e-books" you may have to pay additional fees to have audio included. IF you do not read everything very carefully "BAM" you just signed up for Audible -- What a rip-off! Amazon was an amazing site prior to "Thanks2Net"'s involvement. Everything has changed, the lay out of the site, the way reviews are handled, God forgive if you give negative feedback. I'm very honest and don't like to see others taken advantage of, however, my reviews have been taken down and was told that what was said was not acceptable. If you are a customer of Amazon check out the thousands of complaints they have gotten since Audible got involved. Thanks, Tony R. (Thanks2Net"
