I called audible to counsel my account. They suggested I stay on with the company and agreed to give me a 3 month hold to spend the credits that were cumulating. Determined not to get slapped another $15 charge, I put the date in my calendar. A month to soon, I was charged again. Somebody has their dates mixed up and they would not budge. I now have another credit and a month to spend them or I will get charged again. I feel robbed.

Also very hard to use. You must put books in wish list then go to the web not the app to buy the book. Crazy.

Love Audible
May 8, 2015

I've been using Audible for over three years, and I love it! I spend many many hours a week behind the wheel. The audiobooks give me hours of entertainment. I have downloaded hundreds of books with Audible. I've yet to be disappointed. They have a great selection.

I was charged twice for a book one time. Once I noticed it, I e-mailed customer service. I received the credit within hours.

No complaints on my end. :))

I ALWAYS have trouble logging into my account and spend long periods of time with incompetent customer service. They fix it for a moment and the very next time I attempt accessing my account I cannot. Too many apologies too many promises too little action! If I didn't enjoy hearing my books soooo much I wouldn't be a member. The fact that I cannot access my account constitues for me an illegal action by Amazon that should be prosecuted by law with compensation to the customers who have been injured. Charlotte C

I had been mistakenly charged a subscription fee for months, as most of the negative reviews here have experienced as well. After accuring a total of nearly $60 in charges for a service I never had an interest in, I submitted an email at 7:30 pm EST on a Wed. Expressing my aggressive frustration. To follow, I opened a live chat box to echo my sentiment. But before I had even submitted the message in the live chat, I had received an email response to my initial inquiry. A customer service rep had not only received my email, they had also gone ahead and taken care of it for me. The full refund I received included one month of charges which I had admitted was my own fault for forgetting to cancel my free trial. They still gave me that refund. Honestly, I was super angry but in a rare situation, a company's customer service was able to calm me down within minutes, and handle my issue further than I even requested.

Please, just try to approach a problem, even one as annoying as what we all had with Audible, in a polite manner until you've tried that through, before going all mad angry at them as I did!

One star less than five only because this all happened to begin with, but SUPER impressed and grateful for how they handled it!

Signed up for a free 3 minths trial, didn't like it and discontinued the account. However it seems audible us and audible Australia are 2 different companies and I cancelled the wrong account.

Forget that this is totally confusing and they don't make this clear, they also did not send any notification or email that the trial ended and they'll start charging. No statement or bill. Only noticed it in my credit card statement after 2 months.

Total scam! I cannot believe I'm the only one and judging from the other posts this is a clear tactic from Amazon to quietly charge customers.

Saw an offer for a free book on amazon. Made an account with audible to get the book, then they VERY quietly start charging your credit card every month. How quietly? I got three emails from them in a year and those were just ads. No notifications of "Hey we're charging you now!" Nothing.
Trying to cancel was a pita too. Like five pages of "Hey wait" where you have to play "Find the right button to click to cancel or we'll just keep charging you."
Total scam.

Utterly appauling
February 25, 2015

I had signed up for the 30 day free trial and within that 30 days decided to cancel my account as I hadn't used the service at all. However without my knowledge I had been signed up to both the British and American sites and the month after the free trial was up I was billed by both sites. Trying to rectify this I contacted the customer support by email and asked why I had been billed when my account had been canceled and was informed of the error of being signed up to both sites but was told that no refund could be issued or my account canceled for the American site as they are on different databases however my UK account was canceled then and there. I have since then had to contact the American site but as of yet have still not received a refund from the British site for the money removed from my bank account without having had a subscription to this service, ever ( I had signed up to the American site in the first place). I would recommend that anyone with a subscription carefully monitor the money audible remove from their bank account each month or better yet don't subscribe. I expected better from an amazon company.

Audible rip off
February 22, 2015

I was paying monthly and in advance for this service. I lost £65 of my money. Apparently I didn't spend it in time. I cancelled the account but it's my money not theirs. I would strongly advise people to stay away from it. It's theft as far as I'm concerned.

Be aware that Audible.com has access to every credit card number you have given to Amazon. Several months ago we were being billed by Audible on a credit card. We canceled this particular credit card because of fraudulent charges unrelated to Audible. Audible then started charging us on a expired credit card whose number we have given to Amazon some years back. I didn't know you could even charge on an expired credit card but apparently you can.

These punk mother%$#ers charged my debit and took my hard earned money I ended up breaking a cup and some other stuff in my room because of it. I didn't use the free account and they kept attempting to charge my debit card after the free period was over. I hated that more than anything. Now I have to wait 3 days just to get my refund. This place suck. Makes me wanna delete my amazon account real talk.

I hadn't used Audible much, and had a billing issue to deal with, but they answered my email within 10 minutes, and fully resolved my billing issue. Best customer service I've ever had.

Good at a lot of things and reasonably price. BUT, completely unacceptable when it comes to accommodating clients! I've been a "member" of Audible.com for approximately a dozen years and have well over a 100 books and have paid in advance for nearly 60 books (that because of the Auto Review system they put in once Amazon took over and Auto Reviewed the 2 accounts I had, without my knowledge - but that's another topic). Basically I WAS a happy Audible.Com member. So, I have two accounts and they REFUSE to merge them. Thus I have half my library in 1 account and 1 in another making my life difficult to actually listen to the library that I've built and paid for (in advance BTW). COMPLETELY unacceptable and a crapy way to treat a good, well paying client.

They are borderline fraudulent. Awful customer service and they exist on unauthorized charges. I hope they go out of business.

I have been an audible member since their first year in business. And they have changed login requirements so many times that I have only used my credits approximately half of that time. Now that they have merged with Amazon, it is IMPOSSIBLE (yes, I do in fact mean impossible) to log into my account. No matter how many stupid customer service people I speak with, I still cannot log in. I have something like a hundred books on audible and I PAY FOR TWO NEW CREDITS EVERY SINGLE MONTH, yet I cannot log in to use any of them! Screw you Audible, I'm done!

Stay far far FAR way from audible.com and whatever you do, don't ever click on an audible link from Amazon for a free audio book (or anywhere else at that) They will instantaneously create an account as an exact replica of your Amazon account and they will then have all of your information including contact and billing. Then they can start billing you at will and there will be nothing you can do about it. By default you will be signed up to at least 7 mailing lists and they will also by default publish you location, what you're reading, ratings, and other information.

If you contact Amazon, they won't talk to you and will send you to Audible support. Audible support will tell you they can't do anything once the account is auto-created other than to delete your entire Amazon account.

My main complaint about audible is their customer service. They are annoyingly full of empty polite phrases that take up a great deal of the conversation, but they actually are incredibly unhelpful. They are sometimes rude and obnoxious in how they answer your questions about the website, and most annoyingly bluntly unconcerned about their own lack of any sort of helpfulness.
To illustrate, I purchased a book recently and as I listened the author referred me to a questionnaire which is part and parcel of the readers ability to benefit from the book. As I could not find this online I contacted the audible customer service via chat. Not only were they not providing the material intended by the author, there was no apology or intent to correct this problem. Instead the answer was (copied from chat):

"I have done extensive research on the issue, as well consulted my supervisor regarding your inquiry. In fact, has a message attached. The messages states "Please note that this recording may include references to supplemental texts or print references that are not essential to the program and not supplied with your purchase."

So, the author tells me to get this PDF and audible.com has conveniently decided that these are "SUPPLEMENTAL TEXTS... ARE NOT ESSENTIAL TO THE PROGRAM".

And all that was in response to me saying "The author intended to have that available. Could you please look into the situation further and make it part of the download?"

Shortly after this obnoxious declaration, as i was gathering my thoughts she disconnected claiming that the conversation was idle for 5 minutes, which was a complete lie.

On the positive side, Audible has stood by its word that if you don't like the book you buy you can return it and I have done so several times, immediately getting back my credit. Just as long as you don't need PDF materials for your book, they are fine.

I've been an Audible.com customer for just under two years and, on the whole, have found it okay.

But the place is a mess! There are fewer and fewer "devices" available for using the system and yet they're still listed as viable. True, android has been added.

The website needs an overhaul. With some misgivings, I started out to see whether a gift subscription would be appropriate for an elderly family member's Christmas this year. As I waded through the process she would have to follow for the first time, I decided against it.

It seems quite a few customers have offered their advice to Audible about making things easier and smoother. The marriage of Audible and Amazon suggested Audible would improve. But even Amazon now behaves like a company that may be overreaching and is, itself, looking a little frayed and disorganized.

Would I join Audible if I knew what I know now? Possibly. There are some treasures there. But I wouldn't hang out there forever: Just load up on the favorites and get out unless they improve every aspect of customer service!

Audible somehow phished me into Gold membership when I got what I thought was a free audio book from Amazon. I can't remember anywhere in the process where it told me that I was signing up for membership and ensuing payment. I couldn't cancel quick enough and what an irritating process just to do that with about 4 pages before I could actually finish. I hate trickery and cannot endorse a product that practices such sneakiness.
