I am loathe to complain about any free service but Folks not even if you are desperate do I not recommend using this company. The phones are POS refurbs that never work. Even trying to return the damn thing and cancel the service is a joike. Calls to customer service took over 45 minutes and still no resolution.

Assurance cell
March 28, 2019

I got Assurance cell for I'm a poor, disabled person. I'm missing fingers, blind from one eye due to a stroke six months ago. This cell is the worst. Drop calls. Battery life is max two hour's if you're lucky. It get hot fast. This game box app is constantly interrupting during call or searching.

Coverage is awful. Text messages are received hours later. Cell updates will take 24 to 48 plus hours so you can't use the cell. Good luck if have an emergency because this assurance isn't a life line. It's garbage. If you people need a free plan go with True connect. 1000% better in every conceivable way, plus you can use your own cell. Avoid assurance at all cost. True connect is free also and it's where it's at. This will be the last day I use this pitiful cell.

Their service seems good. However, their free phone is an useless one.
Already got a new replacement and the new one has the same issue.
ANS UL40 is the worst phone I ever seen in my life!
It keep crashing and cannot make any calls. If you call in for help they will just make you reset the phone and the crashing will happen again.

SHAMEFUL!
March 2, 2019

I received four phones from assurance in less than six month (ANS UL40), NONE of which work. Two stopped working within one day. All I get are error messages like "android. Process. Acore keeps stopping" or "android. Process. Media keeps stopping". Phone freezes, keypad inoperable. NO fixes work. Spend hours on the phone and then reprogramming replacement phones that you have to wait to arrive in the mail. A TOTAL WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY!

THE WORST!
February 22, 2019

I couldn't afford a phone, and got this as a means to keep in contact with my doctors, and to get Uber rides to my doctors, health care workers, and to the store as I can't drive due to physical disability. First, I had the phone less than 10hrs before it crashed, I called customer service and got someone on several occasions that while very polite; spoke almost no English, got it reset, and within 12hrs it crashed again. I went through the whole customer service gauntlet again, and since then it's crashed several more times- no offer of replacement. Not just that, but calls are constantly dropped. My friend called me from outside my house in the city, and the call dropped twice. I can't even call my family out of state, and it's so garbled I can't even understand what they are saying. The data by the way is nonexistent, so I can't use uber, or my insurance transport because they can't find me or be called. I was at a doctors appointment, and the call on the cell kept getting dropped, I ended up having to use their phone behind the counter. This phone I got from Assurance is complete trash, and they should be ashamed for getting money for these phones and delivering nothing. Believe it or not, people really do depend on these phones, and many of us don't have a lot of choices. Why is it that these phones have garbage connection, and the phones themselves are $#*!, but if you buy a plan all of a sudden you get a good phone with great connection. Scummy as hell!
Don't waste your time with this phone, they ask you for a ton of personal information to prove your 'impoverished or in need' but deliver nothing, then for extra fun I got spam phone calls and emails on my phone and through a number I'd never given out and you want me to believer they didn't sell my information. My spam folder was FULL and my friends personal number I gave as a secondary contact on the forms was all of a sudden flooded with people scam calling. With how bad this phone and connection is, I might as well have used telegraph or smoke signals, this phone is garbage! Luckily a friend has been kind enough to pay for a cell phone on their plan, and take care of it for me, otherwise I'd be without a phone.

IIN THE THREE MONTHS I HAD THEIR SERVICE, I HAD TO REPLACE THREE PHONES. SORRY SORRY PHONES. THE FIRST ONE LASTED THREE WEEKS. THE SECOND REPLACEMENT JUST TWO WEEKS. THE LAST ONE, TWO DAYS, aFTER THE LAST ONE, I REQUESTED TO CANCEL MY SERVICE SO I COULD GET A BETTER LIFELINE SERVICE FROM A MORE RELIABLE COMPANY. NOT ONLY SWERE THE PHONES SORRY, THE SERVICE WAS EVEN WORSE. THE SIGNAL FROM THE PHONE WAS SO WEAK, NO ONE I TALKED TO ON THEM, COULD UNDERSGTAND ME, BECAUSE THE SOUND WOULD GO IN AND OUT. AND IT SHOULD HAV E BEEN BEETER BECAUSE THE NEAREST CELL TOWER FROM MY HOME, WAS ONLY A FEW MILES AWAY. EVEN WHEN I WAS NEAr a a cell toweR IT WAS JUT AS BAD. WELL, I CANCELED MY SERVICE WIKTH THEM AFTER MY LAST PHONE WITH THEM, AND WENT WITH ANOTHER LIFELINE CArrier. IVE HAD my new phone a bout two weeks, and the service is reaklly good. Also the phone brand is a good national brand, that ive heard is a really good cell phone brand.

This phone is possessed
January 26, 2019

I have replaced my phone 3 times. Once because it was in my purse when my purse was stolen, the other two times was because the phone had a mind of its own. It would dial random numbers even when no one was near the phone. It would put people on hold and dial someone else, or it would just mute them and you could not get them un-muted. I would receive a text message days after it was sent. My phone would not ring when others called and would not even show a missed call. I even tried calling it from another phone and watched my phone while it didn't ring and eventually went to voicemail. This phone, and service is terrible. It even left me and my son stranded for hours because we could not call for help even though we had full bars. Stay away from this company, there are far too many other companies offering government phones for you to risk your health and safety on an unreliable phone with very poor service

LIARS
January 14, 2019

Assurance wireless (aw) is an organization of liars. I have had my phone for over 4 years & I have not been able to talk on it for over 3 years. I have artificial hips and other conditions, & I cannot call for medical appointments, emergencies, or even dial 911. Aw is forcing me to pay for a new phone to replace the broken ones they have sent me. Curiously, they send me a message every month reminding me that they are consistently billing the US taxpayer for services they have never rendered.

Worse service ever
January 8, 2019

Was told I had to mail this crappy phone back to you guys. I would like no why. I hope you aren't going to give it to another poor senior that can't hear and it doesn't work but when it wants too. Plus they also told me that if I wanted another phone I would have to pay $25 for another phone. I don't think so. That's for the same phone

Concerning some customer service representatives have been quiet awful as far as customer service is concerned. Agreeable with many other customers. The first red flag is them requiring shipping and handling, as most companies already provide this service to their customers.

Not only do they put customers on the phone often (at least 14-20 minutes) but also communication wise is very poor. Information must be repeated time and time again, which in return wastes a lot of energy and time involved.

Stay far away from this very poor customer service. Your better off with other services that provide much better training and proper care. Many of these sources unfortunately are out-sourced and the results often show.

If I could remove stars I would give -10. I was talked into contacting Assurance for a Lifeline phone to help make things easier for appointments. The first flag I ignored was their absolute requirement for a physical building address, even though I did not have a fixed address. Shame on me. About a year later, I finally get a place to allow me to use their address. Got the phone. I'm not big on technology, so didn't use it much, but noticed a few months later that the screen would black out when trying to make a call or check voice mail, and it was a real $#*! to try to get it to come back on. I thought it was just a fluke until it started doing it every single time. So I got the bright idea to call and ask for a replacement. The account verification process was a head-banger, especially since I forgot some of the info from what turns out to be a year and a half ago. 30 minutes later, finally get to the point where they can order a new phone... and oh, by the way, there is a $5 shipping charge. Um, ok. I guess that's what I've got to do. Color me surprised when I see a $6.39 charge on my bank account they cannot explain. They finally come up with the lame excuse that the IRS collects that...? I'm no idiot, but the IRS DOES NOT COLLECT STATE SALES TAX. And no state anywhere charges a 28% sales tax rate! Multiple requests for an itemized receipt were ignored, messages that were received were patronizingly stupid. Requests for the tracking number that SHOULD have been issued within 3 days of ordering the phone, per the clerk on the other end of the line, were ignored, and phone has yet to be received. After confirming the mailing address twice on the phone, I'm told that they need yet ANOTHER confirmation...

I have a pretty solid case of CPTSD, and this stirs it right up. I have no room for stupidity and dishonesty. Overcharging me and then lying about it equates to theft.

I did NOT get involved with Assurance so that I would have an unnecessary source of stress to deal with. Stay far away from these people. You'll be glad you did.

So I see a different company to try for free service at least it's a Android not a $0.99 candy bar phone like another company that never had service so I lost my account because I couldn't use it? This company is no better! First they make you create a bizzare 6 digit PIN that's impossible to remember with all the. Rules behind it! Then I get the phone and can't activate it because I can't can't remember the pin! I call them and the guy keeps asking for the pin after I told him a dozen times I don't know it! But he keeps going on and on about the pun until I finally had enough and asked how he got the job in customer service? And threw a few words of choice at him he didn't seem to notice? Then he tells me my phone isn't active and that's why I can't access the account and I he needs the pin? That was it I smashed the phone right next to the phone I was calling him from and told him I smashed the phone and to F Off I hung up and he called Back? Hmmmmmm I asked him doesn't he know what F Off means? That's was the end of Assurance never again I will just struggle to pay for my Google Fi service on my little disability check! Not worth the Migraine!
