I received a phone that never worked. Would not even power on. So I called and they said they were sending a new phone along with a self addressed envelope to return the old phone. I received the envelope first which I placed my broken phone in and dropped it into the mailbox just as I was instructed by the customer service to do. When I got the new phone I activated it and recertified my account. The next day the phone wouldn't dial out. I called customer service and spent 45 min telling her that I returned the phone exactly how I was told to but she continues repeating my account is suspended because I failed to return the broken phone, which was returned. After getting me so angry now I'm shouting at her she talks to a supervisor which I've been asking to speak to for 10 min. She gets back on and says their employee made a mistake telling me to put it in the mailbox it should have gone to FedEx. So now I have to send 25$ to them for the phone they never received to get my account unsuspended. Why am I expected to pay for assurance wireless' employees mistake. Im flabbergasted!

This has to be the worst service ever. Second phone I have had with AW, the second one is better but not by much. The bigger problem is how they access voicemail minutes. Yes, your minutes are charged when you call vm. The bigger issue is if you add money to your account and you exceed your 350 minutes, all your calls will roll to voice mail. Unbelievably bad customer service. Will be leaving AW as soon as my son gets me connected to his family plan.

Don't get this service! I received the free phone and it was horrible. Wouldn't hold a charge, and kept dropping calls. The customer service department, told me that I had to have another phone so they could check out what was wrong with this one. I live alone, where was I going to get that? When I called that time, the person said, "We are sending a new phone and its an upgrade to the best phone we have." I waiting about 10 days, and didn't receive the phone, so I called back. When I called back I had the person's name and date and time I called, and they told me that there was not record of that call, or no upgraded phone coming. So, I went ahead and purchased another phone for $69.00 and I couldn't hear my calls. Every time I called their customer service department, someone else would give me a different answer. Please do not get this service! You will be unhappy and disappointed!

"Escalate" The Problem
September 20, 2019

You have to speak Tagalog to get help with changing AW's mistakes. Everything has been wrong from the beginning. They even did something I specifically asked them not to do--show me as an unknown caller. Most calls to them take more than a half hour, most of the time trying to clarify the problem. I just called and said to make my number show when I call people. Ten minutes in, the woman forgot what the issue was. I think she didn't forget as much as had no idea what I was saying in English in the first place. Never again! And if this is what Sprint is like, I will definitely go elsewhere in the future.

This company is a complete an total scam on people in need. You get a number and after a month even if approved they give you a new number forcing you to change numbers or pay quadruple the normal rates. I have paid about 200 bucks a month now for two months without even getting internet service. I have called for help and get not answers. Shame on this company!

Agents are in the Philippines and have minimal English comprehension. If you can understand them each agent gives conflicting information. The phone and service are best for minimal use.

Horrible
August 30, 2019

I got a phone from them, and they are saying I am not up to date in their system, so they won't activate it. If I were not in your system how did I receive a letter and a phone? They are horrible!

Horrible
August 23, 2019

The service is HORRIBLE, the phone is HORRIBLE.

But what do you expect from a Government Service?

And you have to realize that most ALL tech support in in India. So good luck with communication...

At least as a phone it works better than the last non-free non-government service I had, but as an Android device it leaves much to be desired. Many apps need replacing & some apps do not run right on the UMX U683CL. But I assume things will work better if I were to buy another phone & switch it to Assurance/Virgin Mobile/Sprint.

Horrible service
August 19, 2019

I sent in THREE renewals for the government phone service, and they acknowledged NONE of them, they only kept sending applications saying I never re-applied. When I called to ask what happened to the application, they sent another, after telling me the phone would come in two weeks. Their English comprehension is only marginal. The last time I spoke with them, I told the polite representative that she should look for another job as this company will not last very long with the horrible service. The problem is, the other reviews for government phone companies are just as bad. You're better off getting the lowest cost service you can get from a reputable provider.

I live in ohio and read a lot of negative reviews saying the phones are total junk, i love my new UMX u68cl phone it has no bloatware and even though they advertise 8 Gigs of storage the phone has 16 Gigs. No crashes, no freezes and no problems. It even runs Spotify in the background. Don't think twice about signing up for assurance wireless. The cameras a little grainy but not bad. Infinitely better than Safelink who sent me a non smartphone a few years ago even though they advertised one.

O. K. Company until you buy a phone and it doesn't work from day one. When it comes to more customer service outside of a free phone they don't have it. That is why they tell you you bought a phone from a company called Quality One *******666 one when you need to fix or return it. They pawn off selling phones to somebody else that uses assurance wireless website dot com website to make you think your buying from them until their is a problem and then they drop it on you that oh you bought it from these guys, not us, excuse. A nasty dirty lying rouse. They must think what do you want for nothing? So maybe they can get Way with it. It's free service why would you complain? That's what they count on, and most of the time it works. They don't live in the real retail customer service world. They just don't. Not up to it. They don't have to and they know it. Don't buy a refurbished phone. They don't check them when they sell you one. Don't buy a new one either. I'm sure their customer service don't exist there either. They are just plain too good at pawning off responsibility to some other company that is even worse, threatening people not to send phone in or they'll pay if they are wrong in whether it needs help or not. Nasty nasty ploy. Or telling me they'll send their address in a email and they never do. They send me a mail that leads you back to, assurance wireless not them or their address. Don't spend a dime on assurance because you'll never get an even return on your money. Just use their according to California law Unimax cancer ridden laden free phones they give you and get cancer instead. Yea, read the fine print when you get your free phone in the mail. It's made of cancer causing material according to California law. It says. Just can't win with these guys. And Sprint is no more help either. Just one more conspirator. No good. Think twice before buying a upgraded phone for sure. Signal and Service is good though.

The phone itself is awful! So slow every time I try to use it, I have to wait at least a whole minute for the countless ads that pop up just upon opening the phone. I have to close out at least three ads which all will take an extensive amount of time before I can be able to access anything on my phone. It even a problem when I receive a phone call, when I try to answer it I have to deal with closing the ads before I'm able to accept the call but by the time I get through the ads and pop ups I've already missed the call. On top of all that, I've also reviewed the time I spend on the phone upon being cut off by the end of the month with an option to purchase additional minutes being I'm not the only customer to run out of service before the end date when the phone isn't even in use. Seems the phones use up their own data and minutes even while turned off as to encourage customers that they need to purchase more time per month to be able to use their plan. I highly recommend against this service and their cellphones.

The glowing 5 star reviews are very suspect given my experience. It has been an utter nightmare with an email trail of a revolving door of reps not DIRECTLY addressing my questions or concerns. The street reps in downtown Brooklyn in front of the SNAP building. Are very rude, Ghetto. It is like you are "bothering them." They really do not want to work their role.
The major complain I have is they gave me a 9 digit ID# to log in the site to manage my new account status but the site requires either a 6 OR 10 digit which for some reason in the 6+ email sent back and forth I cannot get. I am looking into other providers for a free service government phone. The stress of unemployment is enough. They are not an asset.

This company is complete trash from its employees to its items. Don't believe what they have posted on their site. These people change the prices on their products out of nowhere, and then claim that they sent you a package that told about it. Another issue is their products. They give you a phone that doesn't even really work. Finally is the issue with their pish reps. It is like they are only gettingpney when they make a transaction. They approached us out if nowhere and after they finished with us, it messed up our CA lifeline system. I am very upset with this company and everything they do.
