The appointments were all set up for us at locations filling our wants list. We were able to locate a new place for mom within 4 days of interviews. Mom was able to get moved in right away and they took care of her every need. As a gift to mom they had her hair done at the local salon. She felt very pampered every single day she was there. Unfortunately mom passed away soon after getting moved in. We feel very grateful that her last days were filled with love, care and simply pampered. "No more cooking, no more cleaning" She loved it.
The list of facilities in Southern Indiana is endless, and trying to distinguish the good from the horrendous is daunting. Our opinions of senior living are likely somewhat negative, unless we have seen the slick TV and magazine ads for chic senior resorts for the wealthy. It is the other kind of facility we fear, and not knowing the quality and the huge price tags, and lists of expensive service levels, and all these considerations we neither know nor understand. And yet, our greatest fear, we have to make a decision and then entrust that person we love to the care of strangers. How do you decide?
You get the best guide you can find. Unless you are an expert outdoors adventurer, you would not go on a safari, shoot level 4 rapids, or set up a base station on a mountain side alone. You would find a guide who really knows what they are doing. I am a retired, but experienced hospital manager who worked closely with nursing facilities and knew them well. When the time came to literally find a place for my mom I felt totally lost.
The issues, the facilities, the pricing were dizzying and it felt like total chaos. Until I called "A Place for Mom" and asked for help. When my guide, Marti, called me back from Louisville, she immediately assessed what we needed, helped us learn about options, set up interviews for me, and guided us through our search of the facilities. With Marti's help and guidance, we found a wonderful place for Mom;
Thank you for sharing and we are so happy to hear Marti could help you out!
I recently used the services of A Place for Mom as I was searching for a Memory Care until for my husband who has dementia. Kim was the associate with whom I have worked. She recommended several choices in the area and after visiting I was able to select the one that I felt best suited our needs. Kim was, and has continued to be, very caring and comforting throughout the process. She has checked in with me on several occasions to be sure that things were progressing smoothly and that my husband and I were both OK. I highly recommend A Place for Mom!
Thank you so much for your comments, Amy! We are so glad that Kim and A Place for Mom were able to help you and your husband out during this difficult time.
A PLACE FOR MOM made my search for a retirement facility in the Fort Worth area so easy. It is so easy to define the area where you want to live and provide them with your budget. They do the rest!
Within 24 hours of completing my questionnaire, I received a list of about 10 retirement facilities within my target area. At that point it was a matter of contacting each and arranging a visit.
We chose Parc Place in Bedford, Texas and are extremely pleased with our selection and the process, provided by A Place for Mom, in finding the right one
Hi Clifford - Thank you so much for your feedback and we are so happy to hear that we were able to help you out!
I chose, and am now happy with, an assisted living facility that was suggested to me by A Place for Mom, which goes to show that they were definitely helpful. Initially, I was not sure what I was looking for regarding the level of assistance my uncle needed, but I had certain criteria that was necessary to be met. They helped me narrow it down. The part of the process that was not good was their online scheduler to make or change appointments. Many facilities didn't expect me when I had it scheduled, others were calling me when I had actually cancelled.
Thank you for your comments, Margaret. We are glad we could help you out and appreciate your feedback about the online scheduler. We will be sure to pass your feedback along!
These companies supply a list for you to review, during the initial call they asked if I had found any suitable facilities and I said YES! They wanted to know the name (as this facility was not on their list) and eventually they charged the facility as if they had found this place.
This has happened twice when I was placing family members, where they charge the facility a "finding fee" when they have NOT done the research or the work which I had done Your better off to use your computer to find facilities on your own, they absolutely doing nothing to help in the search!

Within 30 seconds of hitting submit I began getting phone calls up to 6 a day. After 2 weeks I got an email promising not to call unless I inquire again HOWEVER I'm now getting phone calls related to the inquiry. I'm just going to do my own research. I advise everyone to do the same.
Hi Tonya - We are sorry to hear about your experience. Please email [email protected] to be added to our Do Not Call list.
My sister called A Place for Mom to help me locate places to consider for our mom. I think she had a decent phone experience with a rep and the rep emailed her places I'd seen on the web. We chose Senior Home Choice 6 in Gahanna, Ohio. This place was not a warm environment and the supervising owners were rarely there -- living out of town. I only met one of the two in a few months' time my mom was there. My mom suffered a bad fall there due to no fault of her own, and the two in charge NEVER called me to see how my mom was doing. And they NEVER apologized. Tried to blame the aide on duty and my mom for trying to go to the bathroom. Unacceptable in a place you trust to care for an elderly parent. She died three weeks later.
Hi Terri - Thank you for your feedback about A Place for Mom and we are very to hear about the loss of your mother. We will send you a private message to learn more about the situation. Again, we are so sorry about your loss.
Our family was in crisis due to a rapid change in our mother's situation. Contacting A Place for Mom was a great decision. Our personal adviser was prompt, supportive and efficient. She took the time to understand our family's needs. The information links she sent provided convenient, easy access to the information we needed to make a good decision for our mom. It is a "must" for families to personally visit the actual facilities because only a family member can determine the right fit for their parent. We picked the top three based on the information available through A Place for Mom and visited each. I would recommend that A Place for Mom provide more time for their advisers to make in-person visits to all their local facilities. The first two we visited weren't nearly as good as the third and final one. But, all that really mattered is that we did find the perfect place for our mom and we could not have done it without the services provided by our adviser. She made a very difficult time in our family's life a bit less stressful and I will always be grateful.
Thanks for sharing your comments, Katherine! We are so glad A Place for Mom could help your family out during this difficult time.
I am so thrilled to say that finding A Place for Mom was the best thing that happened to my family! My mom is ecstatic of the new community in which she lives and we owe it all to you! Our Senior Advisor, Ryan Gates was so helpful in answering all of my questions from beginning to end. With me trying to find communities from out-of-state was made so much easier with his assistance. As of Oct. 2018 my mother is safe & secure in a place she calls home. We appreciate A Place for Mom!
Do yourself a favor and make a call to A Place for Mom. Their consultants know the options in your market, take care of all of the scheduling for your calls and tours, coach you on the right questions to ask and help you sort through all that you learn. Finding a place for my mother was a very emotional and overwhelming decision for me, but my counselor at A Place for Mom led me calmly to the right solution. I am grateful for them!
When you are looking to make a quick decision, A Place for Mom, spot on! Within seconds of providing my cell phone number online, received a phone call. Ability to ask questions that ended up giving me ten facilities that contacted me immediately thereafter. Certainly made my work easier since I was 500-miles away from Mom. Great follow-up as well to ensure I was able to meet with numerous facilities during my trip. My siblings glad our decision made easier with their assistance. Definitely recommend their service.
The staff is excellent with the residents. Everyone in the facility is highly trained for dementia.
I worked with Cindy Best and she was WONDERFUL. So very helpful and full of ideas and suggestions. She was available to talk with me not just during "business hours" and that was a huge help as well. I actually used this service twice and was incredibly pmeased both times.
I spoke with a place for Mom twice. They sent me a list of places. I am pretty sure it was googled. But anyways, they did nothing for me besides send me a list of places to look at. Then they never followed up with me to see how things were going. They sent out a mass email per requirements. But never followed up on any of the questions or concerns that were posted in the emails. When I spoke with my worker the second time I asked about it. Her response was she just does not have the time. If I need something I need to call her. When I spoke with the assisted living facility they had no idea that I was working with a place for mom. I spoke with APFM and explained that I did all the work and the worker did nothing except send me a list they told me I was wrong and that there are lots of notes. So basically because APFL was involved my father lost out on a move in sale that they were having. I would never use this type of program again and would recommend that you do the google search yourself and ask people. You will get better help.
I spoke to them by phone and they gave me 6 care home names to visit. I had to visit them myself and 1 claimed they had no vacancy the same day I received the information, so they obviously were not vetted as I was told. 1 home did not accept medicaid as payment, as I had requested, 1 home could not handle the level of care my Mom needed and another was so scary that I walked directly out as soon as I saw the conditions. Only 1 home was acceptable and then I learned they had to give the entire first months cost I paid to A Place For Mom. That was hardly earned for providing me with bad information one 2 phone calls. I recommend people do their own internet search of homes near them and skip the gift to this referral agency. They didn't earn it.
In a very stressful time APFM was very helpful and supportive. They very quickly found several options to meet my mom's needs.
Lindy Culbertson was my advisor when I was searching for assisted living and later for Memory Care for my mother. Lindy was extremely informative, knowledgeable and an absolute joy to work with. She understood my parents' needs and was very helpful in finding the most suitable community. Very easy to talk to, Lindy made the whole experience much easier to navigate.
A Place for Mom did a good job providing a list of options based on location and pricing models and provided good background info on each community. We were very pleased with the service and my mother is quite happy with the choice we made, now comfortably transitioned into her new surroundings.
A Place for Mom was everything portrayed in their commercials and more. Nancy found us the right place, the best place for our Mom at 3-4K a month less than places we found on our own not as good as Capitol Ridge wanted to charge us. Nancy followed through answered all outlet questions, and clearly told us what to expect. What a great supporter at a stressful and confusing time.

Answer: In the Greater Louisville (Kentuckianna) metro area there are several I can recommend you consider based on our tour of recommended facilities in Southern Indiana. As residents of Southern Indiana, just across the river from Louisville, we chose Silvercrest in New Albany Indiana. They offer independent living in freestanding apartments as well as assisted living and also more complete care for those needing it. We also really liked Traditions at Hunters' Station in Sellersburg which has identical options, and Bennett House in Clarksville, which offers assisted living and additional services but does not have independent living. Some of these do have limited Medicaid beds in their nursing facilities.
