This was my first purchase on Alibaba. The website rejected three good Visa cards for "security reasons", but I called Visa and they said there was no problem and that Alibaba hadn't even attempted to charge the cards. The website told me to use T/T, but the transaction fee is too high. I completed the transaction using an American Express card on the first try with that card.
Tracking of the shipment is also confusing and didn't give me the information in a way I could understand. The online chat representatives tried to help but gave me no new information. Eventually the third representative gave me an email address to inquire about tracking, and I received an answer from a representative at cainiao.com, the shipper. The gave me accurate tracking, and also a UPS tracking number to track within the USA. Once I was aware that Cainiao was the shipper, I was able to get more detailed and up to date information, but their website didn't give me the new UPS tracking number either; I got that from their email, upon my request. It would be helpful if the Alibaba website provided that information.
Alibaba made it very easy to communicate with multiple sources at once, and to communicate with them.
My order was cloisonné pins, and polished glass, each from a different source. Both sources used Alibaba as a conduit to promote their products, and the gold star rating of each did influence my choices.
The product quality was first rate, but that was not due to Alibaba, it was due to the expertise of the companies that I dealt with. Each company loved to negotiate, and work with me to get exactly the right look, the right design, and for the 'right' price.
Only one confusing issue, the cost of shipment to the USA. I used air for a 50lb box door-to-door, and that was very reasonable. Included all customs. For the glass, around 200 lbs, shipping by sea was around a fourth of the cost of shipping by air, around $240. If you don't have a customs broker and a bond, as I do, add another $1000 for customs and paperwork. It also took 6 weeks by sea, but I was not in a rush. The cost advantage of sourcing from China vs the USA was more than ten times the shipping costs by sea, perhaps 3 times if by air.
Make sure you have all costs, insurance, who pays for what very clear before placing an order. Door-to-door shipping is the best, let the shipper arrange it, including customs. Once that is understood, the rest via Alibaba seemed pretty straightforward.
The sharpness of the knifes is great, and a beautiful packaging. Thank you for the fast delivery. I will order more very soon.
