Aleks is so stupid as an advanced algebra kid the topics in Aleks are harder then what we are doing in class and I end up getting to the hard topics in aleks before I get there in class and Aleks does a horrible job explaining how to do a problem so if you want to have your students to kill themselves this is the way so I beg you as someone who loves math don't give your students aleks. Please like I beg of you this program making me suicidal.

April 29, 2024

I have used this website all throughout this school year and haven't leaned a single thing

The explanations are confusing

Is extremely hard for people that are struggling

You're not allowed to use a calculator on questions that would be borderline impossible without one

I HATE ALEKS AND EVERYONE WHO FORCES THEIR STUDENTS TO DO IT! It is such B.S.! I used ALEKS in high school and it sucked! It is so stupid because I know math. I got passed associates in Science in mathematics in college, but ALEKS just completely brain boggles you and Makes you fricken RAGE!. I hate it. All of the depressed students reading this I will give advice on how to complete an ALEKS topic. Plug the problem into chatGBT or some other A.I. Website. I hope I have helped some of you students who are struggling to keep life and ALEKS with them at the same time. P.S honestly the creator of ALEKS should just kill himself.

ALEKS can f*** itself
April 12, 2024

I am in freshman year chemistry in college and this website makes me want to unalive myself. It's explanations for chemistry are inconsistent and confusing, the progress check doesn't help anyone, and the site itself becomes impatient with you when it tells you to work on something else. I would like to tell the other students who are reading this this that unfortunately, ALEKS will follow you into college.

Aleks is total Crap
April 9, 2024

The other day I was doing Aleks for my hw and then I submitted the question correctly and It said it was wrong! I just absolutely loath Aleks! Why does the website exist, I wonder if the people who make Aleks wanted to torture people on purpose, well if that's the case, then they achieved what they wanted.

Infuriating
April 9, 2024

(from a student's perspective)
This is a learning system that is geared towards students that can learn by just reading a textbook, and who don't need much of an explanation. The system works well with review topics learned in the past and highlights key concepts each time, but for new material, learning with Aleks is painful, and infuriating. If you leave out one little negative sign in a long, drawn-out answer, you get the whole thing wrong, and your progress made thus far on that topic is deleted. There is no feedback, you're just wrong. There's no "did you mean...(blank)?" No, your progress needs to be flawless, and there is no room for error, and you're left helpless without a professor or resource. Much of the time, they skip over steps and don't have a good explanation, which is very hard for me as a visual learner, especially with my math course. This is my worst grade this semester.
The tests for Aleks are also frustrating. The system, with each "knowledge check" gives you problems that you haven't learned on purpose, which makes me feel stupid, because that gets in my head when I'm taking my test, when "tests" traditionally are to make sure the learner is taking in the previously covered information adequately.
The test scores are solely dependent on the work done up to that point in the course and aren't weighed based on answers correct, or incorrect. If you've done 60% of the work up to a certain point in the class, that is your test grade, even if you get every single question on the test correct.
If you're behind for the first part of the semester in your homework, your tests for the rest of the course are going to be low, because the homework completed is only spreading out from that 60% for the rest of the semester.
The best part: you cannot go back and work on previously due homework. This system creates lazy professors that don't know the material, and are of no help whatsoever. This system needs to die in my opinion, or be dramatically modified.
I can't in good continence give more than one star for this program.

Why aleks belong in the sewer
June 5, 2023
Previous review

Why ALEKS Belongs in the Sewer
If you have ever used ALEKS in your lifetime, you could probably compare it to a gangster torturing you by stuffing snails up your butt. Yes, it's actually that bad. I've spent many a night (after finishing my weekly ALEKS homework) going on Google, and searching for blog posts and videos of people raging about ALEKS (after having my own mini-rage). Here are some reasons why.

First off, ALEKS is a easy tool that teachers use because it is simple-it requires little to no effort to set up and control. Have you seen the supposed quotes from the teachers kissing ALEKS's butt? "Obviously, that's an exaggeration, but all of the supposed quotes have one thing in common: ALEKS is doing all the work. That would be fine, except the teaching style is the same for everybody. Give an explanation, do some problems, then throw in a 40-question Knowledge Check at the end. Have they considered that not everybody in the universe is as stupid as ALEKS perceives them to be? You don't need a topic about word problems with addition, then a topic about word problems, but hey, let's make it about subtraction this time! (My sister actually experienced this recently.)

Secondly, they have the Knowledge Checks every week or so. For me, this is usually about 40 or so problems, which would be fine, but ALEKS always seems to make each of the problems have multiple parts. This means each Knowledge Check has around 100 problems! Coupled with my other ALEKS homework my teacher assigns, this totals to around 130-150 ALEKS problems each week. Along with my other regular homework, this sums up to 250-275 problems a week. Then, I have the stuff my parents make me do, which pushes that already large number even higher. Think of how much less work someone would have to do if Knowledge Checks didn't exist! Or heck, if ALEKS didn't exist!

-every teacher ever. No sh*t, Sherlock! Of doing extra work would improve your kids' scores. However, what those teachers aren't considering are those other math programs out there are. Of course, about 99% of all math programs seem dedicated to making children's brains slowly dissolve into nothingness. However, I've found that having your parents give you problems is a lot less painless compared to doing some retarded McGraw-Hill computer curriculum that clearly belongs in the toilet.

In general, just ALEKS's way of presenting irritates me, as well has millions of others. "You forgot to include the unit label in your answer." Oh Now because I forgot to put cm next to my answer, I will get eaten by a rabid pig! Pandoraspocks, in the article ALEKS: Why I Hate It, and Why You Should Too, compares ALEKS to a "mean old lady who is constantly trying to pound [things] into your head...". I agree. Additionally, when dealing with graphs and geometry, it has a really inconvenient way to draw stuff. Apparently, ALEKS wants to make sure that you know how to use a ruler, because instead of simply drawing the line, you need to plot points, line up a virtual ruler, then make sure you know how to draw lines. Oh, thank you ALEKS! Now I know how to line up a ruler and draw a straight line. Now, can you teach me how shade things in? I'm really struggling with that.

So how do we defeat this menace that is so bad Satan probably created it? First, when hating on ALEKS, don't just rant on and on likeYou need to be intelligent and clever. The people at McGraw-Hill (who created ALEKS) are probably used to pure, unfiltered hatred (get roasted ALEKS). It's a lot worse for people to send you intelligent, clever hate mail like the aforementioned Pandoraspocks did on Wordpress. Because smart haters are a lot more dangerous that stupid haters. Also, I've discovered that ALEKS send you a survey when you finish a class or something. Take advantage of this! Make everything as negative as you can. When there is the "additional comments" section on the second page, hate on them, but intelligently-like how your Language Arts teacher showed you. Provide evidence. Make it short or long, just make sure it's negative toward ALEKS and McGraw-Hill in general. Together, our combined hate will make this undemocratic atrocity exist no more.

ALEKS is garbage.
March 13, 2024

I am taking a single college algebra class, for the credit, to return to school as a Post-Bacc science major. I was so excited about taking an algebra class again because I remember loving it in high school. However, using ALEKS makes me want to tear my hair out, break my computer, and yell at someone every single time I sign on. I'm not learning anything. There are topics that take me HOURS to complete, and by the end I am still more confused than when I started about WHY I was supposed to set up the equations that way. The explanations don't explain anything! Why am I being punished for getting a problem wrong, when I was never taught how to do the problem in the first place?

This is the only class I am taking, it should be an incredibly easy class, and I spend HOURS every week trying to complete the assignments and learn the material. Using outside sources to teach myself the material makes this all the more time consuming. I cannot imagine having a course that uses ALEKS and having other classes on the side. It's mental torture. It doesn't make any sense. It's SO time consuming. It's the worst program for learning that ever could have been invented. 0/5 stars.

First off, i've learned nothing since i've started using this app. Absolutely nothing. This app has taught not taught me nor my friends a single thing. There is nothing stimulating, it 100% kills creativity, and is dull. To put it simply, Aleks is boring. I've grown weary of the repetitive topics, the underwhelming knowledge checks, and most importantly, Aleks doesn't teach. I've yet to learn a single thing. Me, a young girl with ADHD, find this a very discreditable application compared to various other mathematics-teaching software. In conclusion, this program is definitely not worth the purchase. If you're looking for a good math app for school or personal use, I advise you to seek another one.

Aleks does a horrible job of explaining the wretched equations it presents, then fully expects you to be able to solve them. If you get one wrong, it takes away a point. The knowledge checks are even worse, every so often it gives you a 30 question knowledge check to "test" how much you know, but it only brings your score down, once you've gotten back to where you were, there's another.

Don't do aleks
February 29, 2024

Aleks is so bad I want to actually throw the tablet across the room I have to do 20 aleks topics every week and my teacher doesn't teach us at all and gives us pdfs as homework and gives us less than a day to do it while she plays cookie clicker at her desk and literally got aleks questions wrong for students. If I find out where the company that made aleks is at they will end up like the people from no Russian in CoD and if you like doing aleks or you have students do aleks you are off coke and the magic blue crystals made in Walter whites labratory.

It is crazy
February 28, 2024

You know, as a algebra kid I gotta say this sucks butt. The problems are definetly not for 8th grade algebra kids and are more like high schooler stuff. Plus Aleks doesn't fully explain and renders you confused abut how to solve a simple problem. Then the answer doesn't make any sense. Also the knowledge checks like to give you unreasonably hard questions and failure to get them right results in redoing the SAME. GOD DARN. LESSONS.

Nothing, and I mean NOTHING is worse for learning than Aleks. I've used Aleks throughout all of my college years (Intro to Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry & Biochem) and it only gets worse as time passes. They gatekeep information on how to perform certain equations as well as SEND YOU BACK questions if you get them wrong, instead of just letting you retry said question with help. Most of the time problems within Aleks do not correlate with what the professor has taught on the subject, and its all just filler work. Aleks is singlehandedly the worst waste of time I have ever experienced in my life, it doesn't even teach anything.
The only thing I learned with Aleks is how to emulate problems the same way Aleks teaches it so that I can finish the 6 hours or so of work I have to do on this website- all just to forget how to do it the next day. That's the thing too, depending on how many modules of work you get and how well you understand the information, finishing the topics for a week can take literal DAYS, which is terrible for a Biomed student like myself.
I really, truly pray that Aleks dies someday so nobody else has to endure the pain that the bain of my existence known as Aleks has caused me. Hope this service gets shut down, and schools wake up and decide to ditch it.
