No knowledge checks no thes unlocking topics please have a good use khan academy as videos and please make the explanation better
This program is an bald-faced cash grab. It doesn't teach you at all, but it still takes your $60 for just a few weeks of usage. Instead of teaching, it pretends to show you useful information by giving you one example and expecting you to know every single intricacy of a topic from just what they show you. Then, you do some problems, and there's a little thingy at the top that tracks if you get a question wrong or right, divided into 3 or 5 sections apparently randomly. If you get one right, it fils in one bar and if you get two in a row it fills in two. But if you get a question wrong, it takes a point away from you. Now, I'm not a dumbass, but I do have a diagnosed math disability. So sometimes I'll mess up a number or put a multiplication sign in where there should have been a division sign in a word problem. But this program takes away your streak and punishes you even though it's the program's fault for leaving that gap in information. I can't even get past certain problems because I'll get a failing streak. It's clear this program was made without the consultation of an education expert —something that should be illegal considering this is an EDUCATION program that requires you to pay for it— and is clearly just made by ableist capitalists who don't care about students being successful as long as they can present the facade that their program helps people learn. I'd give this program 0 stars if I could. Also to note: on other sites that divide the administrators/teachers and users, the only good reviews are from the people who administer the program to us. It allows teachers to do the minimum and get away with it, so of course it gets good reviews from them, meanwhile us students suffer. I'd much rather go back to my high school class with a teacher who literally told us to kill ourselves if we didn't pass a test once because at least we had a book to learn off of.
Aleks encourages the teachers to not educate students. This makes teachers lazy and unhelpful. Aleks problems are too hard and are uneffective to my learning. The past years, I have remembered slightly anything from aleks. Most of my learnings come from teachers who teach. I only do aleks because I am forced to. I dislike the idea of working your $#*! off in aleks. I cannot comprehend with all the work aleks gives me. It discourages me to learn math and does NOT improve my grade at all. Instead Aleks have given me a negative effect to my life and Im afraid to even look at my grades just because of aleks. Aleks has made me very stressful lately and should never be used in any other school.
I hate ALEKS is because, if you get 1 question wrong you get punish and it doesn't teach you anything! Stay away from this horrible program.
I put it 5 so that any professors that are ignoring bad reviews and are looking for complete reviews to find this.
Listen very carefully - if you have any consideration for the sanity of your students, don't make them go through this. 10 questions take 2 hours. Missing a comma marks the question you've been doing for 10mins completely wrong. My classmates have taken blows to their self-esteem and drive to study. This class was a main reason 1/3 of my chem class dropped out within a month. It's the reason chem went from my favourite subject to the one I absolutely loathe. Please. If you care about your students and what they think of you, don't make them use this.
I don't like the way it tries to 'teach' you. If you get 1 or 2 wrong, all your previous work is undone. It's very stressful and not good at all. This should be labelled a rage causing game. No district should buy it. Period.
First of all, the website doesn't actually help you learn anything at all. And don't get me started on how it gives explanations that don't make sense at all. It show the first step to a math problem and get in a completely different place with the next step. I would be more successful teaching myself. Pfft, I wouldn't even call this a teaching platform.
This website is terrible. Does not teach. Pretty much ruined my desire to learn math and made me lose hope in education
Aleks. A death trap. No, I'm serious. If your here, then you probably have seen lots of other reviews of this site. And if you have, then you already know it SUCKS. And here's just another example of how Aleks ruined my 6th grade life.
It started on a normal school day, and normal school days are usually bad. I booted up Aleks and saw what awaited me. 3 topics today. The usual. The worst. I had already been having a terrible day, but I couldn't not do this. So, I did one, but then, the worst thing happened. I Fr! Cking did 51-31, which is 20, a no brainer. But when i hit submit... it said i got it wrong and the answer was FR! CKING 16. HOW, I ASK. HOW?
This is why my notebook is really ripped up after doing 1 fr! Cking Aleks topic.
And If you made this crappy site, either your a 2nd grader that doesn't know nothing, or a failure.
This sucks butt. Eh, its just a pain in the butt, there are better options compared to this. Aleks brought more cons than pros for me...
I am a 7th grader and my school makes us use Aleks. I had a good self confidence, but this has lowered it. At my school we have major projects were we have to complete so many problems on our path and if you get one wrong it pushes you back. That makes me worry that I got the answer wrong and then I redo the problem and get a different answer when the first time was the right answer. Now I am worried that I won't be able to complete it on time. Last project I was up til' 12:30 trying t finish it because I kept messing up on one problem. In the end my 23 year old cousin, Mom, Dad, and my cousin's boyfriend were all helping me. I do not recomend this it is a waste of money in my opinion.
Overall I think the concept of Aleks is okay. But the fact that if you miss a question you have to keep trying over and over again is frustrating as a student. Especially when certain topics are hard and you have to keep doing them over and over. I don't like the fact that you can take one step forward and two steps back. I think that if you get a question right it should stay instead of being erased by mistake mistake. That doesn't actually happen in the real world. I wish professors would listen to their students about what website to use.
Aleks is the worst site imaginable. Wanna do a knowledge check that lasts for 2 hours! Every problem you get wrong in the knowledge check will add up and you have to redo them in order to get to your actual HW assignment. I had to go through 54 questions that I had already done the last month so I can actually do my HW that was assigned to me. This site is trash and I wouldn't recommend any teacher using it. Teachers that use this site are lazy and don't want to actually teach their students.
You stroll back to your dormitory room after a long, hard day of work. Now that the shift is complete, you can focus on your college coursework. There is a single assignment on the page. Aleks. Ten points. Due 11:59 PM. You come face to face with a question. Since the teacher of the course doesn't teach, you do your best to answer the question. You miss it, no harm done. The little red mark appears above the question, informing you that you were, in fact, not correct. You scroll down to the explanation section, seeking the truth. However, you are shocked to see that there isn't any. There is no explanation. You repeat this process several times, but soon come to know that it is a fruitless effort. One hour has passed. It is now 9:00 PM. You look to an external site, hoping to discover how the question works. You slowly learn the material from the god-king Salman Khan. You feel ready to once again take on the problem. You put all your work and skill into this answer, triple check it. Your formatting is wrong. The red mark has returned. It is now 10:00 PM. You try again, this time accommodating for the formatting. The question submits, and it is green. Correct. Accepted. Finally, progress has been achieved. You load up the next question. You submit the question. The red mark appears once more. Taunting you, jeering at you from its high seat. What is this? The progress bar has been reset. You realize that you included the wrong amount of significant figures. One decimal place off. You fix this and submit again. The progress bar regains the green you had lost. This way, you fight through each problem. One step forward, two steps back. The physically, and spiritually exhausting trials of Hercules and the combat of wits undertaken by Sun Wukong with the gods themselves flow through your mind as you feel a sense of kinship with their plight. It is now 11:00 PM. You ready your index finger, strained and battle-hardened after the experiences you endured. You hit submit. The progress bar rolls over to full. Your very soul lets out a sigh of relief as your triumph rings through the core of your being. You look to the screen to see the fruits of your labor. One topic completed. Eleven topics remaining.
Worst system I have ever used. They don't allow a 2nd attempt if you have a typo, they just mark it wrong and take away the previous point you have. Do not use this product. We must work together to end this program/system
Answer: Because the ALEKS program is literal hell and we people are just showing our hatred for it
Answer: Most likely.
Answer: Yes deal with it
Answer: Because people want to commit suicide in an original way, and ALEKS is the best way.
Answer: I don't think so but believe me a class action suit would be an improvement
Answer: I paid over $150 for this sumbi**h, I expect it to work
Answer: No i do not think the website owner has issued one but I think the feelings for aleks would be "down the toilet"
Answer: I realize this reply is very late but in case for anyone who needs it: -Let's say you're learning how to use long division. They have 3 questions in it. You master the first one, then go on to the next one. You get the second one wrong, guess what? They punish you and take back your first answer so now you have to answer it again. -How fun! And don't forget the useless knowledge checks!
