HATE. LET ME TELL YOU HOW MUCH I'VE COME TO HATE ALEKS SINCE I BEGAN COLLEGE. IN MY DASHBOARD THERE ARE 260 MODULES WITH HUNDREDS OF LABYRINTHINE QUESTIONS THAT FILL MY ALEKS COURSE. IF I SCRAWLED THE WORD HATE ON EACH NANOANGSTROM OF THOSE HUNDREDS OF TORTUOS QUOTAS IT WOULD NOT EQUAL ONE ONE-BILLIONTH OF THE HATE I FEEL FOR ALEKS AT THIS MICRO-INSTANT FOR MCGRAW HILL. HATE. HATE.

Except I have to write at least 100 characters. The short is that, regardless of whether or not you think ALEKS "improves" learning, the site does not work half the time. Just look at the photos.

Bad
October 15, 2024

This web program is poorly designed and implemented. Between the slow and outdated UI to the awful and unclear/unhelpful explanations for each problem it is one of the worst educational programs I have come across. That is saying something because the bar is already set fairly low in the industry. There is also "AI" being implemented but there are noticeable patterns being used in the "created" problems. Wish I could give a lower rating.

Imagine, if you will, that you're taking a test in class. You get three questions worth 3 points each correct. You get the next one wrong, but no worries! EXCEPT your professor decides that since you got that one wrong, they're gonna take away 3 points for a question you got right! Whoa, who does that? Sociopaths who hate students, better known as the team behind ALEKS by McGraw-Hill.
You think constants are supposed to be constant? Well think again! Now the gas constant has several different values ranging from 8.314 to 8.3 1 4 4 6 and it varies from question to question, section to section, and assignment to assignment! You thought chemistry sucked before using ALEKS? Don't worry, It Gets Worse.

Psychological Torture 😁
September 25, 2024

I wish I could have given this zero stars, but sadly one star was the lowest. The entire program, from knowledge checks to never ending questions, is pointless. My school has forced me to use this website for 4 years. I can imagine that the conversation the teachers had when the they found this was "WOW look at that a horrid program to make our students lives worse!" "REALLY? We need to get it." And proceeded to get it and never teach again. The topics are like doing a worksheet, doing every question following the step-by-step process the teacher told you to do EXACTLY like the teacher did, turning it in and having the teacher go "WRONG", throw the assignment in your face, show you an ENTIRELY NEW AND DIFFERENT way to do it saying "Why didn't you do this? Even though I know you don't know how." And then giving you NEW QUESTIONS and telling you do it again and then another three times. And when you FINALLY manage to do 20 topics, it will give you a knowledge check, and if you don't get it 100% correct, your hard-earned 20 topics? IN THE TRASH. Your time? WASTED. And if you get enough questions wrong, it tells you "Try Something Else" LIKE I DIDN'T ALREADY WANT TO! I DON'T HAVE A CHOICE! IT DID NOT GIVE ME ANOTHER CHOICE! I don't know why or how this came to exist, and who though it would be a good idea to put kids through torture, but it needs to disappear right now.

This it what ALEKS looks like when you open it as a student.

ALEKS is pure torture. Taking advantage of schools that barely even get funds anyways, just to provide a $#*!ty program that doesn't teach anything. As if my life isn't hard enough! With ALEKS in it, my life is just a nuclear wasteland. It induces unneeded stress and has made some suicidal. You need to go out of business McGrawHill. You don't deserve the money you get.

Mental torture
August 26, 2024

I've been doing Aleks for 2 years now it is absolute torture. I would always cry when I would kick me out of a topic. Its just torture it never saves my progress last year I was at sixth grade Aleks and when I went to sixth grade it restarted me. It is kinda out dated and the tutorial doesn't really help the fact that it expects you to learn stuff in class. Whoever created Aleks should go to hell and never comeback

This website is the worst thing that happened in the history of mankind. Lazy teachers thought, "wowie! What a dog$#*! website. I certainly hope it doesn't give students suicidal thoughts!" While they sit back and kick their legs up on the table, we endure. Back when ALEKS was all sunshine and rainbows, there were only additions and decimals. I thought, "wow aleks is good website!" I was right. Until I discovered something. The bull$#*! check. (Knowledge check) 20 hard-earned topics? Gone. I mean, what the $#*!? I thought this was supposed to help me with my math not my depression! I don't know how but I made through the whole thing. I thought I survived it but NO! Here comes the proofs! I can't express how much i hate these abominations. Oh and, did i forget about the topics? Mmh, no. Imagine completing a homework question. Then another. But when you submit it to the teacher, they said "This is wrong" then crumple up your paper and give you brand new questions. $#*! that!

I graduated from this mess of a program aleks 3 years ago, I had to cheat my way through it and if it wasn't for covid I wouldn't have graduated using this program, but I did because of online school, thanks china. Anyway very bad mostly because I forgot everything I did on aleks already. But I find I don't need 98% of what I did on there because real life math isnt hard lmao.

Absolutely Terrible
July 25, 2024

If someone prior to using this platform didn't hate mathematics before, they definitely do now. It's impressive how they manage to focus more on increasing the workload and stress of the user instead of prioritizing actual teaching. From the pointless knowledge checks/mastery, to randomly switching the placement of answer boxes, and trying to act understanding by wanting the user to "try something else" when being punished countless of times for getting the wrong answer, the stress isn't worth the "retention".

As a 6th grade student who is skipping a grade, This website is more infuriating than anything i have ever tried. We used this math site over the summer, and matter-of-factly i have gotten nowhere at all. I would rather grow a penis and saw it off with a bone-cutter then use this god-awful math site. Alex's gives non-relevant topics and endless screens of instructions that make no sense at all. The knowledge check makes you take a WEEKS worth of math sessions and compiles them into one session, and you have to pick your brain out of your head to search for whatever the hell the stupid question asks. The Alex teem must have been awfully high when they made this.

Alex's is a great way of torturing your kids or students! If your lucky, they may even commit suicide! Through my life, i have been looking for the most pain inducing way of torture.
This includes:

Thumbscrew.
Tongue tearer.
Tramp chair.
Tucker telephone.
Whip.
Whirligig.
Wicker man (Use disputed)
Wooden horse.

Yet the answer was here all along. Alex's awful website insures: Depression Physical and mental harm.
Asthma.
Autism.
Autoimmune Diseases.
Breast Cancer.
Inflammation.
Kidney Disease.
Lung Diseases.
Obesity.

Overall, i don't recommend.

Horrendous service, incredibly slow and boring to use. One mistyped number adds half an hour to your homework. The knowledge checks are the most infuriating thing on the planet, and unless your final is on this "service" you will be re learning half the stuff in a different way anyway. If your class has this - drop it.

ALEKS is a disgusting grift that is partially responsible for the degradation of the American education system. It's an evil service that exploits underfunded schools with overworked teachers with the promise of technological innovation. It's a punitive experience that constantly tells students they're wrong with a pedant attitude. You constantly lose progress and work by making a single mistake. Rather than teach the student how to get better, it yells at them and takes away earned points on previous problems and demands you do it again and again. If ALEKS could program a way to virtually hit children, then it would. It's misanthropic and cruel, existing only to leech tax dollars away from institutions. Go out of business.
