Complete offshore company. They partner with low quality service providers that pass the problem to other trades or misdiagnosis to add dollars to the issue. Agents are poorly traded and have no supervision. Buyer beware!

Bad technicians
August 3, 2022

Refers very poorly rated technicians. First one "fixed" my AC…my daily electrical bill went from less than $4 per bay to $20 per day. This company refused to come back to fix the problem.
Second company showed up 2.5 hours after their 4 hour window on their first visit. Failed to show the second visit. Technician doesn't answer the phone and I can't leave a message. This has been going on for 45 days.

I had no idea what I was getting into. I signed up for AHS and shortly realized all my calls are going to Philippines, agents who don't have any decision making power. I had two requests

1. Refrigerator - it's open for one month. The contractor was rude and almost broke my storm door. I filed report on 4th July. Till today as per AHS they have not submitted diagnosis report.
It's height of summer? When you call AHS, Philippines hold is 60-90 minutes and when you connect calls drop. No one calls back

2. My two outside faucets had 50% drop in water pressure. Two contractors came and did nothing. One is calling me today and asking me what to do? ( vickers plumbing).
I told them to call AHS and replace both facucets first to rule out this issue. If that does not change then inside plumbing is messed up.
AHS is taking all very lightly. I am exhausted. Even logging on their website there are errors and you can't see your claims. You can't contact anyone. We are helpless

Plumbing Issues
July 30, 2022

I have had this policy since Dec. Of 2020. This is my fourth plumbing issue. The first two in March of 2021 they sent a plumber from Norco, CA which is over 260 miles from where I live in Bishop, CA. The plumbers only came up this way once a week. They fixed the first issue the first visit. The second issue in late March took them 3 visits or weeks and they still did not fix the problem. It was for a clogged kitchen sink. I ended up calling a local roto rooter company and they fixed it in 15 minutes. The 3rd time was in May of 2022. AHS sent a plumber from Mammoth CA which is only 1/2 away. He fixed it with no problem. It was a pipe leak under the kitchen sink. Yesterday, I requested service again this time for a pipe leak by the toilette. I looked on AHS to see the status of my request. It said there was a problem, so I text the company for help. The girl I chatted with said she would expedite the request and someone would call me back within 4 hrs. No one did. I called them and learned that they do not have a plumber in this area and they would send me an email as to what I should do to contact a plumber directly. They started to give me a list of plumbers I cannot contact. One being Dean's plumbing here in Bishop. I still have not received the email with the list of plumbers I cannot use. However, they did request payment of the fee from my back without making sure I can use the insurance. I am on hold trying to call them back as I type this. I will not be renewing the service in the fall. I guess if you live in a large metropolitan area it would easier to find venders. Sorry for ranting but I am very frustrated right now.

Fed up
July 29, 2022

I've been with this company for over 20 years, I have four homes with them. Customer service is atrocious, most of the times they will not document that you ever called. They want you to abide by the contract like they themselves that are here to the contract

Buyer beware!
July 27, 2022

I have been an American Home Shield customer for almost 14 years. A service call was $15 or $20 when I started; now, it's $75 per service call. Over the last 6 six, AHS has gotten worse by contracting with the worse of, the worse for service. These types of businesses would go out of business if not for AHS, paying little to nothing for their service.
Now AHS has contracted out its customer service to some Asian country. When you call, you're treated as if you are lying, misinformed, hung up on, etc. For example, I had a problem with my exhaust fan, and the technician said he doesn't work on these. Contact AHS and told them it was a humidifier, but it wasn't. He didn't want to go into the attic. And AHS went with what the technician stated, even though I told the person on the line that I had the instruction in my hand and that the exhaust fan is not a humidifier. Needless to say, I had to hire someone off Yelp to repair the exhaust fan for $ 345, and AHS kept my $75.
I had a problem with my water pressure and hot water temperature. After calling AHS a total of 7 and then asking for a manager or supervisor, I was informed that none was available because they answer calls as well. No one updated the log to list my problems, how many times I called, or that the company did not respond to AHS calls or my calls. After six weeks of going back and forth with AHS, I hired a plumber to fix the problem for $871. Four weeks later, a supervisor called to follow up on my request to speak to a supervisor from five weeks ago.
Today I called AHS to repair a socket that the Verizon technician suggested changing. The socket is child protected; however, the socket is frozen, meaning the shield prevents the use of the socket. Not seeing an email, I called AHS back about an hour later and was informed that they could not locate a company to send out. However, AHS took my money, so I guess I'll search Yelp for an electrician and have the job done in a day or two. In the meantime, I will be searching for a new warranty company.

I signed up for American Home Shield back in October 2021 because all of my Viking appliances (Refrigerator, 6 Burner Stove, Dual Oven, and Microwave) are approaching 20 years old. I was betting something would go wrong. I am glad I did. I saw a leak under my refrigerator on Saturday, 7/23, my microwave stopped working, and 3 of the burner on the stove took about 10 seconds to ignite. I filed a claim for all of them on Saturday night. Got a call the first thing the next morning on 7/24, and the owner from Optimum Appliance said he would be in my area on 7/25 from 8-12.

The owner called me at 8:45 and said he was on the way. He got here at 9:30 and was able to complete everything in under 2 hours. He tested the components of the frig and said that the drip pan overflowed because of the excess mold and "stuff" on it, preventing the evaporating pan from evaporating the excess water. Whether that is totally true or not, we'll find out. He said he will come back if it didn't take care of the problem free of charge. He took care of the ignitor on the stove and microwave in less than 30 minutes. They all work like new now.

The gentleman was older, but seems to be very knowledgeable. He did outstanding work as far as I can see now. Looking back, I am glad that I had American Home Shield. He said, if I didn't have it, he would have charged easily over $800 for all the repairs, including parts and labor and tax. Instead, I paid about $83 for the service charge fee and tax.

Hopefully, I won't need to use the insurance again, but I am happy that I have it if I do.

This is worst possible comany in recent time to deal with. Last three months have passed and AhS can not relive my air condition issue. If contact them they hang up on you. I have this policy since 1997 and now I am fired to cancel it. Service quality and customers service is detonating every day. Not worth it any more to run after them.

Simple- do your research before purchasing a home warranty company (as I did not and definitely should have). AHS has the worst ratings and reviews I have ever seen. I needed an A/C replacement and they are contracted with 'Standlee Heating and A/C'. They are an absolutely horrible company with the worst reviews and are not even accredited with the BBB. There are so. Many really awful reviews for Standlee Heating and A/C that AHS should have changed or adjusted the use of them to better help their customers. I am shocked that with the number of negative reviews there are out there, that AHS would still be contracting with them. That makes AHS look back and you can see this in all the negative reviews that AHS also has (likely for this very reason). Simply put- FIND ANOTHER COMPANY TO DO YOUR WARRANTY WITH!

They left me a whole week waiting for a plumbing emergency, thanks and o my husband that fix it, cause AHS never called me back until a week later to check if the service got schedule. And with a poker face they tell me they cannot fix the wholes made to fix the leaking cause it wasn't them.

I've been also with FixdRepair. Same crappy service but at least the service fee is half.

Don't buy AHS

Worst experience with this company
July 21, 2022

I am very agree with most of the reviewers who have given one star to this company. I am staying in Utah and know about other warranty companies as well. I will give 0.5 star to this one. Many reasons: they just want to take money and will always run away from the problem. I am struggling with ac problem, and several times they sent technician to repair, every time I end up giving several hundred dollars for refrigerant cost, apart from their one time service fee. But they never addressed the problem. I end up paying approximately ~ 1000 dollars for this but none of technician solved the issue. This time once again I paid their one time service call fee and this company has given me a "quote" of 810 dollars for excess refrigerant cost with a reasoning not covered is "normal wear and tear". Who is responsible? Why not they solved the problem in first time? Why they have taken money from me without solving the problem? If they never addressed the problem, why they are asking money again. How difficult to deal with such type of company, where you are paying several hundred dollars for the contract, service fee and top of that, they will never take responsibility to fix thing. This is one example, another one is also equally interesting. There was a problem in my furnace, they came and try to fix that and one of the technician made problem worst. A Technician concluded that parts of that furnace are not available and it is not repairable. In that situation, the warranty company needs to change the furnace. However, they asked me to pay 1800 USD. On the 8th of December, 2021, the technician replaced my furnace and I paid that amount to him. I monitored that furnace approximately a week or so in order to evaluate if that is working or not. It was not effective mainly because the capacity of this furnace is 56,000 BTU whereas the earlier furnace was 100,000 BTU. I immediately sent a message to that technician as well as called warranty company regarding that issue. However, there was no action from their side. I tried to call them repeatedly but unfortunately, no response. It has been several months since I am fighting for this issue but guys no response. It is something like you want to repair your car, and warranty company will give a bicycle for replacement. This is just few examples, which I quoted, hours are not sufficient if I keep writing about my other worst experience with them. So good luck to you, if you want to go for this company.

Worst Service Ever
July 20, 2022

There is no way that I would EVER recommend AHS to anyone. I had a water heater issue and it was like pulling teeth just to get answers. The worst part is that NO ONE speaks good English. The communication was poor. They were repetitive in there words which didn't help any and they had a hard time explaining the services. I made about 6-7 calls just to get a supervisor that speaks English and it never happened. They don't even have a legitimate corporate number. When I looked it up the number took me back to the original people I spoke with. What started out to be a complete overhaul of my water heater turned into them not covering it and me having to pay $2500 out of pocket to have a water heater replaced that was under manufacturer warranty. $2500 just to install it because of some secondary tank issue. This all happened from July 16th 2022 when it started until July 20 now whereas the plumbers have to get back with me for a date to come back. Just about a month ago they sent a contractor to fix my AC unit. Come to find out it was the capacitor which is $20 and they were going to charge me over $700. $495 of that was for said capacitor. I ordered the part on Amazon and replaced it myself using YouTube. Once my water heater is installed I will be looking to replace these clowns once and for all. BUYER BEWARE! DO NOT USE AMERICAN HOME SHIELD if you want great quality service and great customer service.

My one and only claim with AHS was filed a year ago and they enlisted three different contractors after the first one said my dryer was not repairable due to make/model info missing. 3 weeks later, with no resolutions offered by AHS, I had to buy a new washer and dryer. Still nothing from AHS and when I called to cancel, you cannot reach anyone who can do more than parrot the script they are given. Finally, someone from retention said that if I agree not to cancel, they would refund my service fee of $125. Against my better judgment, I agreed. So, the contract was cancelled 7/13/2022 and confirmation sent. Then I see another monthly charge on 7/18/2022. When I call to request a refund, I am met with "oh we don't see anything on your account" and then the call dropped. If you're looking for things to give you a headache, may I suggest AHS?

Don't waste your money
July 19, 2022

If you want to be sent cut rate technicians, wait on hold and spend hours of your life fighting for basic repairs, then a home warranty is for you. In order for anything to actually get done they put you through so many people in and out of your home and then still make you pay for basic diagnostics out of pocket. All their customer service representatives appear to have difficulty understanding fully what is being said to them, not sure if it's a language or cultural barrier- so they read every single they say off of a script, it is so frustrating when your 30+++ minutes into a call (for the 3rd time in a Row) and feel like you're explaining something to someone who, at no fault of their own, doesn't understand or comprehend what you're trying to say. If you try to escalate a matter you are told they'll call you back in 24-48 hours but they never do and then you call back days later only to have another customer service representative put you on Hold for 20 minute while they "investigate" then tell you they'll call you by the end of day, and again, they don't.

We ended up paying 6 months of their monthly $76 fee+ tax and a $100 service call out fee and had no resolution with simple plumbing issues and ended up having to call a competent company and getting it fixed for $360 out of our pocket after paying AHS for nothing other then hours of my life I can't get back and the pleasure of throwing money away.

Cancelling again took so much patience and effort as they read their scripts and try to "resolve" your issues when I clearly asked them to please not and just let me cancel painlessly.

Again, maybe a home warranty is for some, but I will not waste my time or money again on a service that doesn't provide what they promise then then taking a debit out of your account every month.

We purchased AHS when we moved last year. We had problems with our refrigerator and called them for a tech to come and look. The guy came and told us what was wrong and he showed us by pounding on the freezer door to show us how much the ice was in there. He told us he would order the part right away. We'll, that never happened. We called again and it was scheduled but no one came and no one called. This happened 4 times! I complained to the scheduling office many times... no phone call! This stinks big time! We are so mad! What a rip-off!

We recently bought a home in Massachusetts. We have bought homes before in various places, and have always bought AHS policies. We ne er had a problem before, but now they refuse to honor their contractual obligations. We tried to turn our air-conditioner on by thermostat control when the outside temperature reached higher temperatures. It failed to operate, so I called AHS to have it fixed. An HVAC Technician came performed tests, and determined that the unit needed to be replaced. AHS refuses to repair or replace the unit because the problem with the unit could be detected by an HVAC technician. Well, of course the problem could be detected using their test equipment! Buyer, beware! AHS is no longer a reputable company. I will terminate my policy with AHS, I will continue to post this review everywhere I can in hopes that AHS will lose market share and their business fails as it richly deserves.

This company is a joke! I have had 2 problems with them. 1 in November when furnace went out waited 2 weeks for "part" to come in which it eventually did IN DECEMBER! Had to call another company and surprise! They fixed it that day! Called several times and all there customer service people are in India and could give a rat's $#*! if my home was freezing and my pipes could freeze. Finally got someone in the States to help and they refunded my money and gave me a discount to stay. Now it is June and my A/C goes out. AGAIN waiting on parts! It is July now a month later and was told yesterday they had questions about the parts so nothing was ordered? WTF get on the ball! Did you not contact the contractor right away about your questions? No they told me to contact contractor and tell him he needed to call them. This is ABSOULTLEY UNACCEPTABLE. Can't contact anyone, just get "so sorry for the delay". No one to email and they have no managers! DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY! They do not deserve any star review!
