AHS is a scam
April 30, 2020

My water heater suddenly not working on Saturday morning. I called AHS. AHS assigned Drainco Plumbing and I paid $75 services call. I waited. Nobody call me. I called Drainco many times, nobody answer. I check consumer reviews. Drainco has very bad reviews (1 star). I called AHS on Monday. AHS assigned another plumber call Plumbers Inc. Again I have to call them to get an appointment. They also have very bad reviews. The plumber came out on Tuesday. With less than 2 min. He said my water heater is missing couple parts and it needs to be replaced. The cost is $2350 (I know it should not cost more than $1000, because I did it in another house). He doesn't think AHS will cover the replacement and he will report it to AHS. Then he left. I called AHS. AHS said since you have missing parts, the insurance won't cover. You only have 2 choices, either pay the $2350 to Plumbers Inc to replace it or AHS will assign another plumber to inspect it, but I will be charged another $75 service call again if the 2nd plumber say the same thing as the first plumber. I said I don't trust AHS plumbers any more. I feel this is a scam. AHS plumbers will make up a reason that the insurance won't cover so they can charge the customer more money and AHS is happy they do that so that AHS don't have to pay for the service. If I ask for an 2nd plumber, he will say the same thing and I'll pay another $75. So I call up couple other plumbers, both of them said there is no missing parts, it is just the ignition part need to be replaced, but since water heater is very cheap now. It is cheaper to replace the whole unit than fix it. One plumber quoted me only $950. I went with him. He replaced it with coupe hours. I tried to talk to AHS to get back my $950+$75. Their response is it is not covered by the insurance (even on the contract said water heater is fully covered). Therefore I believe AHS is a scam. I'll tell all my friends don't buy their insurance. It is waste of money.

Ripped off by AHS
April 22, 2020

My hot water leaked on a weekend in the middle of winter. I had to get it fixed fast. AHS had no live agents and the automated system wanted me to pay the deductible with giving me any idea if I would be dispatch an emergency service etc. I would not pay for something without knowing exactly and approximate time of receiving the service. I went ahead and did the job on my own and AHS (even though they asked me to fax the receipts) never responded not any of the managers when I repeatedly left messages. Wait time for all calls were at least 45 mins plus and 80% of the agents did not understand English very well. They start with apologizing profusely and the lines are generally cut when they cannot solve the issues. VERY IMPORTANT - the only time you get USA agents who are more experienced etc is when you inquire for new memberships - that's where the sugar coating starts. AHS claims generally hide behind offshore agents etc. I was lucky to get hold of a AHS local agent who I only got through when I posed as a new customer, she was very good and tried to talk me out of cancelling my policy and said she would give me some local numbers to call etc. I think the management hide behind bogus email addresses. ( because none of the email addresses published online worked in my case) At the end, I got nothing, last agent tried to talk me out of cancelling again. More embarrassing was I had also encouraged my neighbor to join AHS long before my claim and their hot water went down too. It took AHS almost a week to come and check and they said it would take a further week and a half for repairs. The neighbor kicked out AHS also lost money and they had to pay a couple of thousands to get it done elsewhere. I was so embarrassed because I was the one that recommended AHS in the beginning. AHS has lied to me in my case, did not reimburse any repairs, did not return any correspondence or phone calls. I would never recommend this company to anyone. They might seem the best of the lost but its the opposite. I tried and got short changed badly.
I recently received 2 emails from AHS stating that they want be back. REALLY?

I called AHS on 04/06/2020 to cancel my contract due to their contractor's performance. I have had AHS for more than 2 years and during these 2 years I rarely used their service. When my refrigerator broke down, they sent out a technician who came into my house with an attitude. He spent less than 10 minutes to diagnose the issue and wrote down his observations on a piece of paper. When my wife asked him what the issue was, he explained in a hurry and immediately left. I was VERY UNHAPPY with the service and called AHS the next day to find out what was going on. The Admin on the other side told me that they were still waiting for the report to come back.

Unhappy with AHS for this incident, I called them to cancel the contract on 04/06/2020 and today I received a letter from them that they would be charging me an extra $52.99 for the Administrative Fee.

This is a total ripoff and I will NEVER hire them again. DO NOT BUY American Home Shield HOME WARRANTY. They are useless and worthless for your hard earned money.

First I was told in order to get a sooner appt they would have to cancel my initial appt. However, initially I was told by ahs.com American Home Shield would refund my account of 100.00 co pay within 24-72 hours. Then they said they only charged me 1 time for the service but I discovered that the service fee/co pay was double billed. Now, I was told up to 14-21 days for a refund. Service reps tell you something differenct each time. Service Reps are inept. And inconsistent. I will be contacting my bank, the insurance commissioner, BBB. They Will not let consumer talk with billing department.

Worst Ever
March 28, 2020

I have been in real estate for over 20 years. I know the value of a home warranty but DO NOT use this company. I fell for their five star reviews on their site and should have researched more. I have been charged as much as $900 over my service fee for work they state is covered. I'm a retired realtor and I know the value of a home warranty but not this company. I've had them now for several years and have found the company to be useless. I would go as far as to say they are a scam. One other note, they will install a lesser quality product. For example instead of Carrier they will only install Goodman. Not great for resale value. They state two days for a contractor to come out and it has been as long as three weeks now and I still dont have results. Worst company of any type that I have ever dealt with.

I have been trying to resolve my issue for washing machine and dryer, it's been 10 days now already and the problem has not been resolved yet. Every time I call them I receive the different answer and their representative have no answers about the issue. Nothing is recorded for the previous conversation so that the future representative could help you. Still struggling to have my washing machine and dryer to be fixed but no luck yet!

Disgruntled Customer
March 20, 2020

After the Last Installer was here last spring, I cancelled AHS. He had my gas line laying on a sharp edge, left wires dangling in mid air, burned up my refrigerant line at the furnace that caused all the refrigerant to leak out (Shrader Valve), caused a water leak inside my new unit which caused water damaged, did not hook up the exhaust vent from the furnace and stuffed a sock in it, spliced the return air with a piece of Radiator hose, did not wire the heat pump in line with the furnace so it would go into emergency mode when needed. AHS blocks you from responding to their ads and will not warranty the technicians work after 60 days,. Humm, had to wait until winter to find out if the Heat pump worked, which it did not.

Their scare tactic advertising says New replacement costs for this are $5,000 get our warranty and save yourself the cost!'. Read the contract fine print, they only cover $1500 of the replacement cost... and charge you $800 a year in monthly fees plus a service call fee to look at it... do your math, after 15 months or so you're not getting crap for coverage compared to what you've paid in. And you still have to pay $3500 out of pocket to cover that unit replacement.

Recently signed up for AHS. After requesting service for plumbing, I found that they send subpar plumbers. When you see the reviews on YELP. They all say the same thing they were unresponsive.
This is a waste of time & money. AHS do not cover anything & the subcontracted plumber is just there to come reject the request & collect their fee. What a rip off.
Stay away from AHS. I will cancel & get a referral from a reputable plumbing in my area who doesn't have 1 star reviews.

It took AHS and their selected repair service 6 weeks to replace a GE compressor. AHS does not have US phone number to their headquarters management or e-mail address for policyholders to make direct contact when there is a problem. All a paying customer can do is keep calling the Trinidad call center for help. Do not buy insurance from this company. There are others that are much more customer-friendly.

Waste of time and money
January 14, 2020

In November 2019 I requested service for a broken water heater. The company that was dispatched sent the technician 5 hours later than the scheduled appointment time. I was have work done in my house and the workers had placed two boxes in front of the water heater. The technician did not ring the bell but walked into the garage and left. When I called to inquire regarding the location, he informed me that he walked into the garage and saw the boxes in front of the water heater and left because he could not access the water heater. He was also supposed to repair the toilet (if you use this company, make sure that you have two items for the trip). He had no response. He wanted to return at 6pm. I had an appointment. I never got the hot water heater. One month later, they dispatched another company that couldn't come until January 2020. They came to rediagnose the hot water heater, two weeks later I called. The COMPANY supposedly mistakenly reported that the water heater had been repaired. Finally, this company said that I need to pay an addition $525 or the installation. The first company said that the uncovered portion was $179. I have had this company 10 years and it has become a nightmare to deal with them. Beware, stay away. I have three properties under warranty and if you value your time and money, don't deal with AHS.

Horrible
January 12, 2020

RUN away. Worst service people. Many of what they "fixed" broke later. Washer broke, took over a month to get it fixed. Oven broke said someone would come out in three weeks. Wait time can be an hour on the phone. Some of the service people literally google the problem. Be weary of any positive review. Don't use this company ever and save yourself lots of frustration.

BEWARE: We have had this company for several years and normally the service was okay. Lately more and more service companies will not work for them.
In Dec. 2019 our heat pump failed and it was diagnosed as the compressor. They sent a replacement to THEIR contractor in a reasonable amount of time. GOOD? - Not so fast the recharge of the refrigerent requires about 18 lbs for which THEIR repair company wanted 900.00. The refrigerent costs about 120.00 for a 25 lb. bottle.
AHS claims this is not their problem! We had to deny them the installation on general principles of honesty and fairness.

We've been a customer of AHS since 2013. I made the call yesterday to cancel the policy after the most horrible experience we got trying to fix our broken AC. The AC dies in July, we did not get it replaced and fixed until November after MANY calls, MANY contractor visits, MANY broken promises... absolutely the WORST! This company was once great under ServiceMaster being the owner. It went down the drain once ServiceMaster spun it off in 2018. I would never work with these clowns again. Shopping for a new home warranty company.

BUYER BEWARE
December 18, 2019

This company is as crooked as they come. Unprofessional and lowest rated companies they can find, come to assess broken item. They say everything is fine, appliance stays broken. Call back for second opinion, second technician actually professionally assess that said item is broken. Conveniently American home shield cant get a hold of technician who properly assessed broken appliance. Repeatedly called to hear what American home shield had to say, to no avail. Only to be told that they couldn't get a hold of company who assessed the damaged equipment. They will do this for weeks to months, to get you to just give up on trying. DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR MONEY. Because that's all you are doing
