I transfered money to Philippines 3 times with their app didn't have any problems. They gave me a good exchange rate and everything went through smoothly. 2nd time I made a slight mistake with the receivers surname and when I contacted them about it they sorted it out quickly. I don't know why all the negative reviews I found western union excellent
I initiated a transfer and my transfer was cancelled for no reason. On chatting I was given random answers and no answer to my question. I started typing in upper case and I was asked to call a number. On calling the hopeless AVR which kept on telling me it will disconnect the call as he was unable to understand whom I needed to speak to! The first human who answered told the compliance team cancelled the transaction and I will get my money back in 7 days!
When I asked the reason I was told I can initiate another transfer and call them whenever I initiate a transfer! I never had to do it over the years since I have been using WU, more than15 years I think.
When I tried to initiate a new transfer, the rate was too low and also an extra fee was added!

Managed to talk to a human in the end, it was a 'SYSTEM FAULT' and I need to make another transaction using the new rates and inflated fee!

Was sent approx $200. After 3 trips, I hadda' give up. This company used alibi's to hang on to the money in transit. See my self-explanatory screen grab. Also, the $7.50 transfer fee was high.
After I received an email regarding an unsettled transaction and money had been returned by the receiver's bank to Western Union and Western Union refund money to my bank account and transaction between me and Western Union was done. Then I used another option to send refunded money to the receiver and I sent the refunded money from my bank account by direct wire transfer to the same account to the receiver's bank. I don't have any control or information on the receiver's bank.Then 43 days later Western Union asked for the money back, I received an email from Western Union: "that it was an internal error that caused the transaction to be completed and also being refunded". Based on misinformation by the Western Union, I am sending the second payment to the receiver's bank. It's not my responsibility to recover any money from the receiver's bank if any was mishandled by the Western Union.
Western Union executive resolutions department made a clear decision: "Please be advised that this won't bring any legal implications to you", but the Risk Collections department threatened me "outstanding balance may be sent to a Third Party Collections Agency and your credit score may be affected"

I needed to send money to my son in Puerto Rico and did the transaction using their website. It asked me for first name, middle name, paternal last name, and maternal last name, and I put all the information correctly. When my son went to collect the money, his last names were inverted. I called WU and the machine sent me a form to fix it, which I did again. My son tried again, and the name was worse: they changed a letter in his first name and put his second last name as a middle name. I made the change again through my online account with them. When he went the first time, WU cancelled the transaction. I called to find out what was happening. They said that the system decided to put a ban for getting the money on my son because of the name mistakes. How in the world is it my son's issue when their own system is faulty? Needless to say, I told them to go ahead with the refund, that I will use Money Gram, and that's what I did. The programming work of WU should be double-check, and they should not penalize legal customers when trying to do legit transactions. Why don't they do that with people that scam others up and front?

This makes no sense what you are telling that my bank is the one refusing to process the payment. Are you trying to tell me three different banks including my credit card company, that I've been using for the past 5 years to send money to my husband and family in Jamaica, is now refusing to process my transactions with western union and they are okay with me completing the same transaction with money gram? Bull $#*!! By the way, I called my bank and they told me they did not put any restrictions or stipulations on me completing any transactions that were not already setup by me. So not only are you lying to me, your customer, you are telling lies about the banks. All these years of dealing with this organization, I have had minor issues but a call to your customer service usually rectify it, but now you are sending me this crap of an excuse? REALLY!?!?!? Because I don't beat around the bush, I'm telling you I'm going to post on any social media I can think of, this message so that the world can see what liers western union is and might even get the banks to sue you guys for defamation of character.
I've spoken to other people about western union's service and they all say the same thing, western union is the worst.
I'll be taking my pennies to money gram to send my money from now on. LESS HEADACHE AND STRESS there.

If you risk sending your money with Western Union, you are in for a really stressful 2 weeks. Because its exactly how long it will take them to take your money, not deliver it to your receiver and keep asking you for more information, then tell you that everything ok and money is ready to be picked up, and then they told you that money can't be located. Every call you make to customer service gets dropped after they put you on hold. Good luck trying to ask to talk to supervisor - all agents are trained not to do that. They will literally tell you: there is no supervisor available, and they themselves can't help you.
World please don't think of going to use western Union Bad bad news going on 6 months still waiting for my money it send all the receipts and documents they say the checks is coming on the mail I call 3 weeks ago even I asked to speak to the supervisor I gave him the case # receipt number and he promised me they will send my check still no checks on the mail

I can not believe the idiocy of this company. I am a bail bondsman. I had a father try to wire money from another state to get his son out of jail. He sent it. I went to pick it up. After about 45 minutes of every thing going wrong and repeated calls I was given a number to call. They informed me they had to speak to the sender. I was given another number for him to call. I called the sender gave him the number. He called them told them it was to get his son out of jail in another stare. Assured them it was on the up and up. They then told him the money was coming back to him

The reason was the COMPUTER decided it was fraud. The COMPUTER decide d this now. Therefore I lost money and time. The son expecting to get out of jail is left sitting. Also where the father lives he had to drive over 60 miles in order to get to a western union. This is absolutely ridiculous. Don't ever fool with this joke of a company that lets a computer decide if you're fraudulent. What if this had been a dire emergency? This company does not need to be in business. They are a joke and fraudulently take fees and don't carry out their end. Get a carrier pigeon to fly your money before you deal with incompetent idiots.
My experience with Western Union was extremely disappointing. I sent $1500 to a recipient in the USA, only to find out that they could not access the full amount at multiple locations in Los Angeles, Miami, and New Jersey. When I requested a refund, they initially insisted I could only get it from the Florida location where I made the deposit, despite me being in Massachusetts at the time. It took numerous frustrating phone calls to change this. Western Union's response was unhelpful, stating they have no control over their locations. This lack of accountability and misleading information make Western Union an unreliable choice for financial transactions, and I strongly recommend exploring alternative options.
My mom was trying sending me money on a day all banks were closed due to a federal holiday, leaving Western Union our only option when it came to transferring funds same day.
When she got to Safeway she paid all fees to have money sent over in "minutes", but three hours later we still hadn't received confirmation that it was sent. We called customer service and they told us it was placed "on hold" for fund verification; which was no problem. However, after six hours of still waiting after the original transaction, we made multiple phone calls to Western Union's customer service. After being on the phone for over an hour they finally told us the transaction was sent to their compliance department because of "fraud".
First off, it was completely out of line for western union to be accusing us of participating in a fraudulent transaction, but then a representative had the audacity to tell me to have her send more money. I found it hilarious that they would want her to send more money when they would most likely send it to compliance again for legitimately no reason.
Never ever ever again will I be using Western Union and I would most certainly never ever recommend this company to anyone.
These people made me 5 whole days to pick up the money my husband sent and after 5 days I still didn't get anything I had to cancel and wait 8 additional days and my husband still can't the money back up until now I would have starve if it was for western union what ever had u do please don't use western union ever save yourself the hassle imaging waiting three weeks and still haven't gotten a dime
To send 20 dollars overseas they want a 4.99 fee plus they reduce the exchange rate. With other options that do t cost money like remitly and gcash, why get ripped off? It's time for WU to just go away.
I went to pick up money Ihad been sent by a family member. The whole experience takes too long. They ask too many questions. They asked what relation Ihave with the person sending the money. They even asked me where I was born!I was so offended by this question I don't think they are allowed toast this question!

I'm from Canada, my friend sent me USD 900 and the current exchange rate is 1.35 Western Union forced you to do the conversion in CAD they gave 1.21% they wouldn't let you receive your money in USD (900X1.35=1215) (900X1.21=1088.50). See the difference 126.50. Do yourself a favour and do not send money through Western Union, they gave you a terrible exchange rate. Sept 23,2023
I cashed a $21.80 Western Union Money Order at the proper window at my Kroger owned Fred Meyer Market and was charged $4.50 to cash it.
Easy to send money from US but when receiving, you can't fine location that dispense your money.
I googled WU locations. There's a lot near me so I went to a place. They don't do this anymore.

I went to Rite aid. They said I only can receive up to $300. What?
Then I went online WU app and entered my info. It gives me other locations. So I went to two locations and one finally said I can receive my money. I went there and gave my ID and tracking number. The he asked, did you sign up online? If then you can only get money from check cashing place. Sorry dude. WTF!

They used to be a good company. Their fraud department now cancels almost every legitimate money transfer after waiting one week for the transfer. Just waited two weeks for the second cancellation by their fraud department. It is a big waste of time using Western Union anymore. Switching to MoneyGram.
