Western Union Reviews Summary

Western Union's reputation is markedly mixed, with a significant number of customers expressing frustration over service delays, unresponsive customer support, and unresolved transaction issues. Many reviews highlight a lack of accountability and transparency, particularly regarding refunds and the status of transfers. Conversely, some users report successful transactions and satisfactory experiences, particularly with the app's functionality and customer service in specific instances. Overall, while there are positive experiences, the prevailing sentiment suggests that the company must address systemic inefficiencies and improve customer communication to enhance trust and reliability.

I went to the grocery store (HEB) to make an international money transfer. (Money-gram) I forgot my pin to pay for it, so I revoked the money-gram. Or at least I thought it I did. After going to the bank to get my pin, I went to the Base Exchange and made a new money order. I paid 50 cents less. After looking at my records I found that the money-gram from HEB was converted to the one I presumed was annulled by Western Union. If you send a money-gram and it is canceled, ensure that you have your receipt. The people at the grocery store, the Bank and particularly Western Union will be clueless and will not be able to help you. Western Union can and will make the switch without your authority. Keep a close eye on your bank statement to verify Western Union's actions. This will certify that you are not double charged. (Double crossed) This I did, to unravel their poor judgment.

The lure of the international funds transfer market is great, and here's another phony trying to take advantage of us all in claiming to provide the service.

There are now more than a hundred websites and corresponding apps that claim to transfer your funds overseas, some to a bank, some to high street office, some to your bitcoin wallet.

Now Western Union, a US 19th century survival that has been ripping people off with outrageous fees for years, is trying to compete in the same market that skilled cutting-edge fintech products compete for. Western Union is hopelessly outclassed.

The best of these services use blockchain to make rapid transfers at a high level of security without demanding excessive paperwork.

Not so Western Union, which treated me to a half-hour long registration process only to inform me that it "could not complete the transfer." This was from a registered bank in the US to one of their own cash delivery bureaus where I live.

What possible security risk could there have been? Western Union managed to find one. Like so many fake money transfer operations, this dinosaur can't be bothered to implement the actual security regulations, so they simply set up a series of arbitrary road blocks thinking that this will constitute compliance.

What these fakes don't understand is that security is expected to support the business process, not to prevent it. You can't claim to be in the funds transfer business if you keep finding reasons to not transfer funds.

Let's all look for the Bitcoin-based fund transfer services to move our money in the future, and let these struggling antiques like Western Union, PayPal, and Money Gram finally disappear -- as they should have 20 years ago.

I created an account with Western Union online in hopes to having a more convenient way to pay some of my household bills, however so far NONE of my creditors to include my mortgage company shows up in their data base. For as long as this company has been in existence, they sure do seem to be under-established, from my personal experience so far, I would tell anyone considering using them to not waste their time.

I really disliked their rule to accept no piece of ID from foreigners in certain countries like Malaysia. They refuse categorically even if you are holding a piece of information that suffice. What dangerous activity or self-respecting scammer would go through all the trouble for $100 or slighlty more, what fraudulent activity could be financed with $100, a government heist? Keeping people's money under the false pretense that it's for their own safety... Thanks for protecting me against myself WU.

The lie consistently they have taken over thirty eight days to get me a refund (which has yet to be issued) for money that I transferred so a kid could go to his fathers funeral. Yes they managed to screw things up so bad that even the manager of the store that was suppose to pay out the money doesn't want to deal with them anymore. Horrible customer service that lies just to get you off the phone, promises call backs that never happen and are difficult to understand. I hate Wal Mart but I strongly encourage you to use their money transfer service over these yahoo's. At least you will be able to interact with a person at the store

I don't use them to send money, but i do have their prepaid Debit card which is what I recommend you get to pay for stuff online. They will help you get your money back if you are scammed using their card to pay. PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT SEND MONEY TO PAY FOR SOMETHING USING THEIR WIRE SEVERS. They tell you on their website And the paper you have to fill out to send money, not to send money to someone you don't know

Western union is not crap. I use it all the time. It's just a matter of how you use it. If you're purchasing online this is not a very good option cuz it does not protect a buyer. Western union is best to be used by sending money with someone you personally know. Like sending money to your wife, gf, brother, sister, collegue, etc. it's not for making business online. People need to learn how it works before using this service. And again it's definitely not for online business

So this is in part my fault, but I recently got scammed. I should have known something was up when I had to send money via Western Union. They have absolutely ZERO customer safeguards! Its like the freaking wild west. Be advised, if anyone asks you to use Western Union for ANY reason please please please avoid it!

Western Union has long been the preferred mode of collecting money by SCAMMERS!
This does not Western Union is at fault. They did what the victim told them to.

Don't send money to people you only know from the internet, or phone calls, and there is no reason to use Western Union for payments to purchase items online, also.
Businesses who only accept payment by western union are suspect.

I have sent over 30 emails to Western union, fraud branch, online enquiries, advocate service. The complaints are in reference to supplying the information to authorities in USA, in regards to the scamming network that is world wide. This scam originated from a online romance scam that cost me $120k AUD of which $80k was sent through WU.
15 of the emails are not even opened(email tracking), the only reply I get is, the case solved.
I have reported to Office fair Trading, Australia as an international company…

I have reported the matter to the following agencies with not one responce:

FBI
INTERPOL
WESTERN UNION
ANZ BANK
CIMB BANK (MALAYSIA)
OFFICE OF FAIR TRADING (AUST)
FEDERAL POLICE

Cyber crime is a growing industry, so much so, that Interpol is building a complex in Singapore to deal with the cyber crime coming out of Asia-pacific region.

Before comments are displayed saying what a fool I was, they deceived 4 banks.
I am just a dumb grunt what chance do I stand.
They are even able to manufacture false bank sites to show the funds which were the subject of the scam.
The security firm that was supposed to be handling the money acquisition is WORLDWIDE GLOBAL SECURITY COMPANY, scam also.
I guarantee I lost much more than money.

They are a lot better than they used to be. I was only charged $12 by the buyer and you get to pick up the cash instantly rather than waiting for a bank transfer.

Western Union is the worst. Any website that wants you to pay with Western Union is usually a scam. And Western Union itself charges extortionist rates on all sorts of its financial products. I'd avoid at all cost out of principle as well as as a consumer.

Of course, like everyone else, I am not really a fan of the regular western union stores since they seem to be a haven for people running various underhanded schemes (i. E. scammers).

However, their website itself is very informative and provides a lot of good information for anyone considering using their service.
