I have been hoping to carve out a niche as a character voice actor as I feel this is where my strengths are. Recently, I auditioned for a job involving character voices for a children's educational video game and I landed the gig. Success! There were several parts to be voiced, including various monsters (not so scary ones!), a concerned father and a narrator. It was a great experience, lots of fun, I got to express my character acting skills and the client was very pleased with the results! Hoping for much more of the same in the future!
Even during the periods where I wasn't getting work, it was invaluable to submit to Voices nearly every day. The continual use and development of my voice was invaluable. And, of course, actually getting gigs was pretty great, too.
With union membership, I can no longer submit here, and I will greatly miss the help and inspiration Voices gave me on a regular basis.

I've worked with voices.com for a couple of years. The customer service is phenomenal. When I haven't been paid by a client, voices.com's service rep contacts the client to aid in getting my payment. The service reps have also helped me with my profile to make me more marketable. The website is a little expensive for artists, but it can pay off if you book enough work.
I started auditioning with Voices.com about 4 years ago, and since then I have grown my fledgling interest in VO into a full time job. I will say it takes a LOT of work. I have to do many auditions to book enough work to sustain me, but I love being able to work for myself whenever I want. And I have clients that return to me for repeat jobs so it just keeps growing. I know that they take more commission than is usually acceptable here in the states, but to me it is the cost of doing business in this new VO landscape where much auditioning and work can be done from home, and more and more work is going non-union. I really do understand how people who have been doing VO for a long time are unhappy with the way things are now. However, to me it's a no-brainer: for a small yearly fee (seriously I make it back with one job!), I have access to auditions and jobs and clients that I just wouldn't have otherwise. So for my part, I am happy to keep doing business with them for as long as I can. And their customer service is fantastic. Truly great. Obviously it would be better if they took a more industry-acceptable commission, like 10-15%. However, I am a very happy customer and I recommend them to people all the time. Thank you so much for my new career!
