Cameron is most helpful in every way. He was informative and fully understood all the points that I raised. He sent a full and comprehensive email of understanding so hopefully the next we speak it will be to discuss recent successes!
Cameron's advice was most important when it came to my own home studio concerns.
Thanks a lot!
I've dabbled with voices.com for a few months but have gotten more free time recently to do more auditions.
I also have a consult with Cameron, who was very helpful, supportive and encouraging to me in my efforts to make a couple bucks.
At this point I'd be happy to recoup my subscription fee and make a few bucks, just to prove that I can make money off my voice. If I can take it to another level of income, all the better!
I started on voices.com around 5 years ago. It's a great place to practice auditioning, and you will audition a lot. Problem is:
1- Many who post a job there do not hire anyone there.
2- The site lets anyone who is willing to pay their fee become a voice artist.
3- This makes it so some jobs will get over a hundred auditions and they might not even listen to yours.
4- You are competing for the job based on your guess of what the client really wants to pay. So people are getting voice overs for very little from those who lowball their price. So someone could get a lowball offer of $300 when they really should be paying over $600. And they just got over a hundred auditions because voice artists thought they would pay a reasonable price for the work.
5- When the client forgets to release funds you can't do anything about it. I had one job that still hasn't released funds and it has almost been a year. Customer service basically wants you to take care of any issues.
6- So at that point I stopped auditioning because I wasn't getting paid and I wasted almost an entire year subscription (hundreds of dollars).
So for voice artists there may be a lot of jobs posted, but there are a lot of people auditioning. I have found the amount of time I spent on voices.com versus the compensation to be far less than other sites I am on. Clients don't realize the time it takes to audition and how many auditions you do in order to get a job. They just think they are being ripped off because they have to pay more than $100. They never consider that they got 40 auditions which took 6-10 minutes each (that's around 8 hours of work done by others just so you can chose one person to record). Then when you take into account the work they do on the actual voice over it ends up that most people are making less than minimum wage. Of course, some are fortunate and get repeat customers. Almost a year ago they were promising big changes, and really they've just made the site look prettier - no real change to solve the problems. For those people looking for a voice artist and can pay more than $100 then you get to listen to a lot of auditions and choose who you like. You'll get the inexperienced with the more experienced, but if you want the best be willing to fork out more than $100. For those voice artists considering get a yearly membership, think twice. Sure you get the chance to audition for a lot of jobs, but only the lucky actually make much money. Plus you pay hundreds of dollars to audition.
Voices.com is the leader in customer services.
Their team of professionals always go the extra mile. Prompt response to any of your inquiries, courtesy, reliable, attentive; they really do their best to give you a personal attention. Specially Emily, her customer service is admirable. They are the best because they have the best!
So far my experience with voices.com has been awesome! Right away I was treated by a welcome email giving me some insight on how to get started efficiently. After an in depth conversation with Cameron, I feel like I have all the right tools and tips to get a great start with the site. My conversations with both Cameron and Jolene have been an incredible help! Thank you for the guidance.
The math is bad for talent on this site. They charge voice seekers to hire you on top of the annual membership fee you pay them, plus brokerage fees they charge you each time to obtain work. They also handle all invoicing and act as a middle-man, so you don't enjoy the advantage of a ongoing, personal relationship with the client. Do your research on this one.
You get to talk with real people everyday when you need help and have questions with voices.com. Cameron is a great representative and is willing to help at the drop of a hat. Thanks again!
Cameron impresses as someone who can talk to anyone, novice or expert, about audio and performance. He does have a wealth of knowledge, as to be expected from his training, but the personal touch he gives in explaining and encouraging talent gave me a far greater boost than can usually be expected in a forty-minute coaching session. He was the right person for me, at the right time. Thank You.

I'm relatively new to Voices.com, but so far I'm very impressed with their customer service, as they seem to really be trying to help me get the most of out of the site. I had a good 45-minute conversation with a Talent Success Specialist today, where I got a lot of good advice. So far I'd say it's been a worthwhile investment.
I recently completed two voice over jobs for a client who I'd previously worked with on a prior company video. Without first paying me for the work, the client sent the two finished projects onto the end user, who posted them on their company website.
I found those videos, and immediately reached out to the client to release payment. When he didn't respond, I reached out to Matt Webb at Voices.com for help. He sent a message to the client, and gave them two weeks to respond. When the two weeks went by without reply, Matt initiated immediate release of payment.
Without his help, I'd still be waiting to get paid for my work. Say what you will about VDC, but they do know how to take care of their talents. Thanks again, Matt!
Dave Kirby was extremely helpful and patient with me when I was signing up to use Voices.com. He explained how everything worked and inspired me to get started on a path I have been thinking about for a while. Thank you for your insight and advice Dave!
I'm new to Voices.com and I have to say that so far my experience with them has been exceptional. I've been dealing with a gentleman named Randy and he has been such a great help in navigating my way through everything. And he follows up so well. He's made this experience awesome so far and I look forward to writing another review once I get work and see if I got the stuff it takes to work in V. O.
I was having an issue where I wasn't receiving many auditions that matched my profile more than 70%, where as fellow actor friends were consistently receiving 20-30 at 90% to 100% a week. Matt assessed my profile and use of SEO's, and found a few errors and made numerous suggestions that might have been negatively affecting my matches. Within five minutes of making the changes, I received a 90%, and now am looking forward to receiving many many more. Thanks Matt!
Thank you Cameron so much for your help! You were very encouraging and I learned lots of great tips for auditioning!

Answer: 1%. Very very few click through, and I offer a range of services that should make me stand out more than the competition. I had 1 contract last year. 10 Years ago it was closer to 30-40%.

Hi Grace,
Thank you for your feedback. You're right, building a voice over business is hard work and requires a lot of commitment, no matter where you choose to pursue your career. We're pleased to be a part of many voice actor's successful businesses, which each has to define for themselves. As for your other points, please allow us to correct a few misconceptions:
1. We invest significant amount of resources into bringing clients to the site. Our goal is to help our customers succeed, making us extremely invested in these jobs closing. After all, when someone is hired for a job on Voices.com, everyone wins.
2. Voices.com is an online marketplace. We provide a level playing field for all talent promoting their voices. This applies to those already working as voice actors and those embarking on a career in voice over. Some of the top talent on Voices.com today were brand new to voice over when they first signed up with us. Because they could register for our platform early on, they were able to gain experience, build a portfolio and achieve success. Everyone starts somewhere.
3. We send auditions to talent at the exact same time so everyone has the chance to book the job. A client decides how many auditions they will listen to. Some will listen to all auditions while others move ahead faster, especially once they've heard the voice they want to work with.
4. The average pay out to talent has increased by 36% in the last 2 years.
5. If you ask Customer Support to check in on a payment for you, we always release payment within 14 days if we don’t hear from the client. With that being said, we realize it’s not convenient to be reaching out to support so you’ll soon see auto-release of payment on all jobs (see blog post here - https://www.voices.com/blog/new-product-updates-30-30). In fact, you can always keep an eye on our blog for upcoming product updates (this does not include any aesthetic updates).
Wishing you all the best and success in your VO career!
