If people don't use PayPal directly... this is a good 2nd option through the PayPal team.
I use them in the "online marketplace"... on occasion.
Frauded after being a customer for several years, and then dispute was denied.
My Venmo card was used after I visited a gas station. I placed a claim after dealing with the headache of customer service (including them adding in a charge into the claim after I mentioned was mine several times). Apparently my claims were denied over a month after submission. This was mainly due to the card being close to the address on file, and Venmo thinking the card was in my possession. I originally thought the card was in my possession as I have a card that looks just like it. I realized that the card was not in my possession. Additionally, because the fraud happened close to my home - they listed that as one of the reasons my dispute was denied. That makes absolutely no sense. I need these reviewed again as I WILL NOT be paying for someone else's transactions. You've also literally done no investigation as to why there are charges at places I do not and have never visited (the largest amount coming from a barber shop for men that I DO NOT USE as I am a woman). You also didn't follow up with the merchant to see if they could look into camera's etc to see how this was happening. This was a very low level investigation and as a customer, I do not appreciate that.
I went to the BBB and the company again denied my dispute. What a ridiculous company. Police report to follow for a real investigation.
I have been trying for 3 weeks to get my money returned for 3 Venmo transfers that ended up to the wrong person. Venmo will not correct the error. Why?-because will only correct one miss payment in a 60 day period. Venmo is not available by phone. They won't contact the person paid in error. They won't provide me information so I can contact the person who took 3 of my payment. Does this seem fair? Heck NO!
I suggest you avoid Venmo unless you like being a victim. I am.
HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!
I tried to create a new account. However, whoever had my phone number before me had a Venmo account.
I have been dealing with a rep/agent by the name of Hershey. Was told to provide documentation of my number. Per the request, I emailed MANY documents but Hershey states unable to read. The documents I emailed to Hershey, provided my phone statements that shows my cell phone carrier's name, my name, the phone number and when the phone number became mine (May 2020), my complete address and even my email address.
I asked for a supervisor to call me, but was informed that their phone system was down. Right. How convenient.
As such, since Hershey won't do the right thing by rectifying this matter accordingly, I have filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau against Venmo and Hershey who displayed NOTHING but unfair business practices.
Hershey responds to my request by the wrong name. That's being professional? Clearly not.
It is extremely disappointing that you need BBB to resolve a matter that Hershey could have done, yet refuses to.
A few months ago, someone on Venmo hacked my checking account. Last week, I was able to recover the stolen funds through the help of fisthacker at protonmail
I would only use Venmo for emergencies but i feel your taking a risk because at anytime they can freeze your money. I've used them three times and so far so good.
If you use Venmo, be aware of their service and the potential to have your account banned quickly with no explanation.
I just had the most nonsense experience and even questioned if it was a well-designed scam. Venmo sent a series of emails to me saying someone who had transactions with me stole money from them somehow. It was vague and no matter what I said they refused to clarify, which looked really suspicious. They were pretty abrupt and hostile to then say my account was permanently banned, and they act as if it's my problem they had a security breach. I still don't know what "terms of service" I broke. All of my transactions have been just fine and normal, in fact I only used the service for a few months among friends and acquaintances for the usual trades.
I even offered to help, if someone I know stole money I could just confront them. How conveniently, Venmo "couldn't give any info". Funny how they didn't think to tell me the date of the transaction or the number, considering I know my own account and they don't need to give any private info. How convenient for them. I literally did nothing wrong and this popped up in only a few emails.
Feel free to try Venmo for yourself, just be forewarned their customer service can be weird, suspicious and hostile with no explanation.
I have been using Venmo for about 3 years. It is useful when going to restaurants with friends and it is difficult to split the bill. I have also found it to be extremely useful in living with roommates. One person will pay for water, PG&E, or WiFi and everyone else will Venmo them for it to split the cost. I dont know anyone in my friend group who doesnt have it. The only problem is that is takes a day or two to process, so if you need the money immediately its probably not your best option. I recommend this app to anyone who is sharing costs of small items.
My checking account was hacked. I was not impressed. It has caused me a lot of grief and agony. It wasnt fair
I use Venmo on a daily basis almost. It's a convenient way to share a bill among friends. It's kind of social media for finances as I can like my friends transactions as well (if they are set to public). I don't like much that PayPal is behind this company but so far it's working smoothly. Yet, I wouldn't recommend to transfer large amounts of money, I limit to around $100, as it isn't bank.
Answer: My experience they are a scam. They take your money and lock you out of your account
Answer: Get them easy, they just don't do anything once you do.
Answer: I was told they don't have phones so you can only email them and it will take weeks for them to return your message
