I would not recommend your site. I did not receive an acceptable valuation. I would think for 28 dollars your appraiser would be able to identify what type of bear I had.

Valuation had no meaningful research or history included. It listed the valuation, insurance value and a googled like description of what I sent in. I didn't care about the value as much as I hoped for some info on the history. Not worth it.

I felt that the appraisal didn't shed any new light on the item's origin and didn't give any explanation as to how the valuation was arrived at. In the end it didn't give me any more info than I could have surmised myself by looking at it.

Good information but a little short on the production date and real street value
Thank you for your review Ricardo. You are able to see the date the specialist has attributed to the piece on the full report either via the link in our email or through logging into your account.
The street value would be in line with the insurance value we have provided. The auction estimates also provided will always be lower than private sales values, but can of course be far exceeded during the right sale, on the right day.

I was disappointed with your assessment on my shell, as there is no documentation or provenance to support it. I contacted the New Bedford Whaling Museum and I was told by the Curator it could have been in the Philippines in the post-Spanish-American War period 1898-1941, but is not certain. My father told me it was from an ancestor who was a whaler and created it. If I find this ancestor who wrote his initials J.J.W. Inside the shell would that be documentation? His name was John Jacob Williams. Maybe I can find him. I am still searching for more info on this shell.

As our specialist has explained extensively in her report, your bear, while very sweet and in excellent condition, is unlabelled and not from a recognisable maker. Were the bear in a recognisable style, our specialist, who has over 40 years experience appraising teddybears, would have been able to identify the maker.
As it is, with so many toys companies and retailers have been providing wonderful bears through the centuries, without any labels or maker's marks or a recognised manufacturing style, it is simply not possible to identify the maker.
You will of course know that there are a huge number of manufacturers of toys and teddybears who never gain recognition. While we would likely all recognise a Steiff teddybear, most makers remain anonymous and out of the public eye.
This however does not make our appraisal incorrect. The values can be relied upon.
