They get your credit card information and the second the trial is done they bill you 138 dollars and when you call and cancel they say no refund because you used your trial and they refuse to refund any of it at all. I had to report them to Credit Card Investigations unit. What they are doing is so wrong on so many levels and yet we seem to fall for it... Not this guy Not anymore.
I held for 20 minutes on their "customer support" line during normal business hours only to be told by recording that their phones were busy after which I was disconnected. They get you to put your credit card in for the "Free Trial," but then make it impossible to cancel.
Honestly I was pretty damn scared when I saw all of the 'rip off' reports. I was even considering canceling my card and having a new one sent out. But I noticed a correlation, namely that the people who were claiming it was a scam had really awful spelling, typed in all caps, or hadn't thought to cancel the trial (or couldn't figure out how). Literally there is a drop down menu that says "cancel" on it, and once you click on it it gives you either a phone number to call (keep in mind the time zone is CET) or you send a message requesting your trial account be closed. I attached a picture of my cancellation confirmation email. I was never charged.
Now that that's out of the way, the service itself is alright. Very fast downloads but I chewed through my data allowance in a day or two. The client is very well designed but for the price point I'm not sure I could justify it. You either have to commit to a full year (for 8 dollars a month) or pay month to month for 12. I don't feel comfortable with either option when their competitors have much more attractive offers, but for 600GB in downloads a month it isn't bad. It isn't a scam guys. Any time you hear "free trial" on the internet and they ask your credit card number, you can assume they will charge you if you forget to cancel. ANY service, including Xbox live, netflix, hulu, amazon prime. Anything.
They changed their webplatform so you can no longer change you payment settings or cancel your trial period from the website. BUT THE AVERAGE RESPONSE TIME TO MAILS is THREE WEEKS - THREE WEEKS. Before they respond to requests they will sell their open receivables to a company in germany which will engage a lawyer at no time. Even after 3 monts I was not able to update the payment info because they provided a faulty payment Link. DO NOT EVEN ATTEMPT TO USE THEIR SERVICES IT IS CLOSE TO A SCAM... UNFORTUNATELY
It wasn't useful to me but the customer service was friendly and cancelled my trial as soon as I was able to call during business hours. Protip: Call the foreign hotline because I'm pretty sure the American one isn't real. You guys complaining have to learn how to read. It says clearly that you have 14 days and you get charged if you don't do it. I don't see what's misleading about straight up telling you their trial policy. It may be a misleading policy (forcing you into their website), but they most certainly outline it clearly.
TRIED THE TRIAL AND WAS SENT A NOTICE THAT I WAS BEING CHARGED 99.00 EFFECTIVE THE NEXT DAY. I RESPONDED THE SAME DAY TO CANCEL THE TRIAL ONLY TO FINE OUT I HAD TO GO TO ANOTHER E MAIL LISTING TO CANCEL. THE ORIGINAL E MAIL WAS FROM A NON-RESPONSE SERVER. SO ONE DAY LATE AND THEY ARE COMMITTED TO KEEPING MY MONEY. POOR POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE! DO NOT JOIN OR TAKE OUT THE TRIAL MEMBERSHIP!
Today I've lost 99.96Euro after 14 Free trial days. Although I've not use their service or their solfware since the first times i registered and tried their service. My bank advised me contact with usenet and ask them for refunding my money but i cant contact with them. I tried to call their hot lines but that number is block or doesn't use for a while. My only hope to take money back is a letter to them on their website though it's not replied yet. It's some kind of trick so pls never try their service whether only 1 time!
It appears that the Usenet.nl contract states that one must return any "performance" received to be able to cancel (even during the "so-called" free trial). As there is no conceivable way for one to "return performance," no refund may be possible once one has used the service to download something. Also, irrespective that Usenet.nl apparently offers a monthly service option, it is not available when first signing up! One MUST initially sign up for their so-called "free trial," by which one automatically agrees to pay for the Usenet.nl one year service plan "in full," immediately upon expiration of the free trial if not first cancelled (the cancellation of which, as previously stated, may not be possible)!
Misleading trial information and lack of information. Be warned - they'll smack you for 99 Euro after 14 days although it isn't clear on the website as to the amount. AND the software doesn't work.
I think it is a right scam they said i could try the site out for 14 days if i like it then i have to pay 100 euros to use it, i tried it it has nothing useful to download on there i tried cancelling the membership being bought deleted the software but was not able too cancel they keep trying to take the money out of my account which has become a right nightmare for me which will give me bank fines and a bad credit rating as im in minus and it will also take the money out as soon as i get paid which leaves me having to starve for weeks. Or having to cancel my card which will be a nightmare as i won't be able to withdraw money to get food for the month until my new card arrives! So i now have to starve for a week... this is a polite way of looking at the site...
Answer: I've been getting them for nearly a year now. Nothing has happend beyond getting letters
Answer: I subscribed to a 14 day trial and like many quickly was faced with the difficulty of unsubscribing and locked into a 1 year plan. They will hunt you down and make you pay with a debt collector, so the only viable push back is legal support. If this has happened to you, report it to econsumer.gov and your local authorities, the more of us who report it, the more likely they will be investigated and face criminal charges.
Answer: They took money from me too but Paypal reversed it! They continued to send me me letters each time upping the amount. I have just this minute spoken to a Paypal adviser. Who said.`Don`t worry theres nothing they can do. Paypal have jurisdiction over them. If Paypal decides they are fraudulant theres nothing they can do! If they continue to harass you got to the police and ask for a harassment form... ignore them don`t pay ANYTHING TO THEM!
Answer: I haven't paid and I won't, if you ignore it as I am, then, if they want to peruse the matter they would have to get a court order to send in the bailiffs. I highly doubt they would attempt this, as shady companies, a, do t want to raise attention to their dubious practices and b) they wouldn't win anyway, as I've never even used this services what evidence could they present? It's worth noting that such threating letters could easily be deemed as harassment and you have every right to contact the police and press criminal charges!
Answer: Yes you can. With my experience working with them it's either going to be far easier or the only way to go through PayPal versus going to them directly
