I've always wanted to test my skills with a global clientele. Actually had a few opportunities but it wasn't enough. I needed more. I tried other platforms but the best so far was Upwork. The process works, the support was great and more importantly, both parties[Me the professional and the client], it was a seamless and remote-work easy experience. I've learnt quite a lot and while competition is stiff, for a talented person like me, there are still chances.
I've been using Upwork for more than two years, and I got my journey started by revamping the business logic of a company based in the U.S. This platform has been a wonderful catalyst for my career capital.
Upwork site is my favorite. I enjoy working here. I am optimistic that I will be able to build my career in the future.
We are working with Upwork for the last 2 years and help of this platform we learn and achieve many goals for our business.
I am working on upwork since 5 years and enjoying my life as I wish to be.
A best place for for one who want to enjoy his life with good financial status.
Thanks
As a company, we worked with about 5 contractors. Everything was fine. The last contractor we used was in August. She did ok work and we were done. Then December 21st and 22nd, she billed us for 30 hours. I had been out of the office those two days and immediately reported it to Upwork upon my return on the 23rd. The contractor was never asked to do any more work. I messaged the contractor with no response. UpWork stated that I couldn't do anything until the following Monday when the contractor was paid. That happens to be the week after Christmas when I was out of the office for the holidays. I clearly explained that I would be out of the office and they said they would note that and I could dispute the transaction upon my return on January 3rd. Again, this was my first task on January 3rd. UpWork asked me to provide a description of what happened. I not only provided a description of the work done in August, but also provided a copy of all of my communication with the contractor. UpWork stated that they have to ask the contractor for their side of the story and they would get back to me. Well, the contractor closed her account and took the money and ran. UpWork stated that since the contractor didn't reply that they closed my dispute. So basically, UpWork allows scammers to create accounts and steal money for work that was never approved or requested. Very disappointed in their process of approving time entries AFTER the contractor has received payment. UpWork states that they have a guarantee, but not for hourly work. Beware!
Upwork is easy for designers to use and they offer consistent resources to help with sending out proposals - which is the main obstacle for most designers. Once the learning curve is passed, or you figure out everyone is just another human, it is easy enough to communicate and be able to help clients. My only note would be that the percentage Upwork takes from each job is rather high when compounded over time, and it would serve as a long-term incentive to encourage myself and others much more to stay on Upwork rather than it's growing competitors if the platform were to lower the % of funds taken from designers who have been with the platform pass a certain amount of time. Perhaps there can be tiers for loyalty. Other than that, the feedback that I get from clients is consistently positive about the platform, save for a couple people who get confused easily or simply haven't gotten used to it yet.
I've been on Upwork for many years and it has served me well in getting side work of all kind.
Very helpful marketplace for freelancers and businesses. Freelancers can find some great clients and businesses can find reasonable freelancers to handle their jobs.
Review from me as a client:
One of the main issue for me is when I activate the ability for freelancers to manually log hours. This opens the gate to scams. In the past, a freelancer asked me to activate this feature and logged the maximum number of hours for the week. Then, he didn't do anything.
Then, it is difficult to find good freelancers because good freelancers have limited options to promote their work. For me, I find that freelancers on fiverr are better than on upwork. There are lots of low skilled freelancers on upwork. You can't rely on the user reviews. They are far too optimistic. For example, I have hired a Freelancer with 80% success rate. I discovered this individual didn't work from a computer. He just had a cellphone to communicate with me.
Clients are rated too. It may explain why clients give feedback that are too good compared to the quality of a freelancer. It may take ages to find a good freelancer because you would need to hire maybe 6-7 of them to find the best one. The most straight forward and simple your request is and the better it is. It is easier to find a good translator than a good business advisor on upwork. I think you can be satisfied by upwork if you hire freelancers to achieve simple tasks. For example: review a product, write a piece of code, translate something... Conversely, if you look for marketing advice, HR advice, business advice, don't go there.
Also, i think that some freelancers are overpriced compared to employees. It sounds crazy but it can cost you more to hire freelancers than employees.
Upwork is a great and trusted Upwork space, where you can get trusted people to work on your project, I would highly recommend it for anyone and everyone.
Upwork has been a great and reliable platform for freelance jobs. Very satisfied with their service.
Used Upwork for 2 years for channelstreem dot com and hired several persons to admin our servers spent more than $20,000 so far. Recent experience taught me 2 thing about Upwork. First, con men discovered they can cheat the platform and make a profile full of fake info, misrepresenting who they are and qualifications. Some, pretend to have knowledge in computers but in fact they get the contract and farm it out to someone else with scant knowledge that actually try struggling to do the work. The second issue I learned, is that never deposit any money into escrow, as these con men simply never complete the work then ask you to close the contract and release fund. When you discover you been had, and request refund, the con man files a dispute of which I never received any notice of in the app or by email from Upwork, when time to reply to the dispute expires, Upwork pay the con man money out of escrow fund. My observation now, is that, most anybody qualified to work left Upwork, it is becoming very difficult to find honest help with the knowledge and experience they put up in work bio, and the percentage of crooks are getting higher by the day... So be careful who you hire, don't be impressed by the con man fake work bio and listed experiences /education, all lies, and never deposit funds in escrow at Upwork until the work is done right as agreed and on time. Even now when I still try to see copy of the dispute, all I see is blank white page as if Upwork do not want you to see the dispute (see image). Will definitely start looking for better alternative to Upwork hire.
After months being ghosted, time and time again by the programmer that I hired to do the
Job, I have absolutely nothing whatsoever to show for it. I am out $1060. That, BTW, is
Above my budget for the work. The programmer spent months dropping out contact (ghosting
Me). He talked a good a game, promised to make Filemaker & Wordpress do everything I could
Want.
Over the months since job inception, he would disappear, for lengths of time, running out
The clock on Upwork's "terms of service". Excuses ranged from, "I lost my mobile
Number", "I lost my phone", "I got Covid", all of which ran out TOS. His phone number
Changed twice. After weeks of silence, he responded, and told me that all was ready, that
He would call me back the next morning and show off the work. I called him, the call
Dropped, and after a month of silence there (I was calling and sending messages), I
Realized I got scammed.
Hello, I wanted to share my honest opinion on the Upwork as a Freelancer.
- I have been working on it for half and year. During that time, I get paid from every job I did. There was no scam, no one left me empty handed.
- Upwork support freelancer. They gift 10 connects if you being active and answering proposals. (Connects is thing you use to sent proposals to the client. If you don't have it you buy it.)
- Upwork has an tax. I don't know how tax system works on USA. Anyways, Upwork gets 20% from the every single job you have done. For example, 20$ from 100$. Even though it is high, I think it is worth it considering their safety policy is protecting me.
It was really hard to become an Upwork freelancer. I couldn't get verification during a year. But that is an actually the main idea how to immerse in the world of the best professionals with the most interesting projects. Decent pay and no fraud.
I love this freelancing platform.
I rate Upwork 10 on 10, I like their easy payment method and everything is very friendly. I think who has skill he / she can establish their career here. I was inactive now I have started working again..
Upwork is really a very helpful and professional website. This site is friendly to all parties. I really appreciate it. Thank You.
An excellent platform to find long-term and temporary cooperation all over the world. The support service works well, quickly helping to resolve issues for both customers and freelancers.
Freelancer is a livelihood platform through which we earn a lot of dollars and it is a trusted platform for freelancers
As a business owner, I considered Upwork as an unreliable and unsecured platform to hire freelancers. Do NOT waste your time using this platform. It is too risky, and I won't recommend it to anyone. A total waste of time especially when you're running a business. Lots of scammers at this platform and this platform do not have a real dispute resolution procedure. I contacted Upwork's staff, but they were very unprofessional and failed to assist with the issues that I've raised to them.
Answer: They are horrible. Every freelancer I've gotten from Upwork has cost me more to fix the small job they have done. There's absolutely no customer service! I would stay away
Answer: This is not the place to inquire.
Answer: No, just 20% of your job when we talk about fixed price, and same for hourly but after some week it's been 10%
Answer: Go to Settings › Contact Info › Click the Close my account link. If you meet the requirements, click the button to confirm that you want to close your account.
Answer: I am a customer and have had a really horrible experience. Upwork claims a 100% guarantee before you pay anything. That is not true. The process is actually quite horrible. You put money in escrow. You only get your money back after a bad contract if the freelancer agrees to release the money. If the freelancer refuses, you get a bargain offer to still pay them something but still you are paying for a bad job you can't use. Then, if you refuse to bargain over a bad job, you are told that it will cost you an additional $389 to arbitrate with a 3rd party affiliate that the customer (me), the freelancer (scammer) and Upwork (ripoff enabler) has to pay. I took it all the way to arbitration with the end result being that Upwork decided that I was just too uninformed to know their policy and that they would give me a one time only refund of my original amount. What they didn't tell me what that they just gave me a "credit" of my original amount and that was the end. So I am still out the original amount and can't get my money back. This sight is a ripoff. Plain and simple.
Answer: Because of their policy changes which are geared towards the client rather than the freelancer. They have dug their own grave with their policy changes of late.
Answer: Go to Get Paid on PC or Mobile, you will see 3 dots in front of your payment method, tap to select edit/remove to change them. Go to Billing Method on PC under Billing Section and tap three dots to change (edit/remove). Thanks
Answer: Be part and see, dont look at the sold mine reviews people, upwork can bush you to reach.
Answer: I agree with Sam. This place is a scam. They have bad reviews everywhere. Katrina is probably working for them!
