Upwork has an excellent community and way of giving people job based on how active they are on platform. They wont put too much work on your plate. Con is they are charging 20% fee on the first time client that hurts freelancer a lot

Upwork is a perfect way to expose your professional skills and experience in order to find quality and fully remote jobs in the area you are proficient. I highly appreciate all the different features available on Upwork because each of them contributes to the freelancer's success.

Accounts & Support Standard
Appalling, lack of acknowledgement of overcharge on 3 transactions to my credit card that did not relate to any work engaged. I've been in dispute for nearly 2 months, and the response is like a bot that has no ability to understand simple reconciliation issues. On top of that, their general account methodology is in a world of it's own. It's so complicated, and appears to be designed in a way for purchases not to recognise the overcharge. There were so many unrelated charges, overcharges etc, that they repeatedly kept blaming my bank for. I've spent collectively probably 4 days of time trying to sort this out, and I receive the same lame response. It's outrageous and it's the reason I will NEVER use Upwork again and can't recommend them to anyone.
Work Quality
I engaged 5 contractors through Upwork, the work quality was varied with two of the 5 star rated failing abysmally. That's not Upwork's fault, as people being people, some just aren't what they make themselves out to be, or maybe their circumstances at the time didn't enable them to deliver. Only 2 of the contractors engaged were worthwhile.

Overall, not worth my time especially in view of their internal accounting issues. If you dare to use them, make sure you check your accounts thoroughly. With the repeated issues, I contacted the CEO direct and she did not have the courtesy to respond. That's tells you something doesn't it?

Upwork makes working online with different clients around the world very easy. Very professional platform with professional clients too! Love it.

I am a member and I requested to submit my proposal but it doesn't allow me to send it so I sent 6 emails to customer support and I have no response. A couple of od days later, Upwork wants me to pay my renewal membership fee because I am almost expired. I guess I need to pay the money so I can submit my proposal.

Upwork is the best platform for freelancing. Great for people who want to start their career as digital nomads.

I always love to work on Upwork. When I started my career as a freelancer I build my profiles on various platforms but now I only work on Upwork. I enjoyed working here. And I think it is more secure than any other platform. Upwork community guides in the batter way whenever a problem raise. And I feel much more secure here. And I suggest all the people work here than any other platform. All the terms and conditions are properly explained. And guided by the community. One important thing Upwork Webinar is a great platform to learn for newbies how they can work in a better way on Upwork. Everything is explained by using examples of Upwork success stories.

It is great concept working well but the website is super slow and buggy. Messages are not loading sometimes not possible to close contract. It is just frozen. Fees are another topic. It cuts 20% fee... (top of it you need to pay tax etc half of the money you are earning is just gone) And it is asking to buy premium membership. And buy connects etc. They should really consider to drop fees if they want to attract or not lose good developers.

I've been working on Upwork for over 5 years now - since fall 2016, after several months of unsuccessful attempts to find a full-time job in the country where I live. On Upwork, I signed my first contract after 2 or 3 days after registering.

Although for some time I thought freelancing was temporary, then I decided that freelancing would become my main occupation.

Upwork is just like any other "market" - there are both good or bad clients. Over time, you learn how to distinguish the first from the second. You have complete control over who you want to work with and who you don't.

This is not a place where you can easily earn money. Here you can earn only if you are really a professional in your field. It may be difficult to find clients initially and even if you are an experienced freelancer, you still need to put in some effort to find new clients and sign new contracts.

But if you are a good specialist, you'll eventually find long-term contracts and will be earning in US dollars, which is especially important if you live in a developing country.

I highly recommend this marketplace for all good specialists who want to find remote work.

Upwork is a platform where freelancers can make their profiles and get work easily. The way that Upwork sets up a profile is phenomenal and clients can easily see the potential and the skill set of the freelancer. This makes is so easy for freelancers to find relevant work and for the clients to hire a relevant person for a job.
