I have been using Upwork for over two years, and am a big fan. At that time I signed up for Upwork and Freelancer.com. Initially I got more offers for work from Freelancer with much less work, but then I saw that over half of these offers were from scammers looking to purchase my identity from me. Yikes!

Upwork's internal review and controls don't eliminate spammers, but greatly reduce it. Instead, I have had to fairly compete on an open marketplace for jobs that are posted and coming in all day every day.

Sure, I had to start with lower prices than the market would seem to be, but I worked hard, got good reviews, and started getting more work - and raising my prices. After becoming a Rising Star and then Top Rated, and maintaining a 100% JSS score (with the help of the ability to challenge the rare poor review) I now find Upwork a healthy supplement to my writing business.

Upwork is the only freelancing service I would recommend. Always satisfied. No scams, just a serious business.

Easily the best platform to find and be talent. No arbitrary barriers to entry like TopTal--just a community of people with skills and portfolios to show their abilities regardless of level.

I signed up to Upwork (still odesk then) in tandem with tour guiding; both freelance back in 2012. In 2013 we had a 7.2 earthquake, which stopped my tour guiding and I applied and found virtual assistance and translation jobs This gave me a security blanket that no matter what happens, I have a place to fall back on. Come 2020 and here I am again, but this time this is the online lifeline left. My biggest struggle before was to stay home, but now I learned to love it. Solo parenting even has become easier with working from home. Upwork is just and fair, I feel safe.

Upwork is very helpful for me. It does a fair job for the Freelancer and the client. That's why many freelancer saying that is very difficult to get a job on Upwork, too high fee. But for me it's reasonable. Yes at the beginning it's difficult but when you finally get the magic trick on how to get client it's gonna be a flood or pool of clients. Same thing for the clients. It's easy to to get a freelancer because they have a automatic sending invites for the qualified VA's you're looking for. Many thanks to upwork! I don't need to worry anymore to get my clients.

Covid19 hit us really hard. Where government support barely reach us, Upwork has been a great source of income that let us survive this pandemic without expecting a help from the government.

There is a lot of competition going on but if you have a unique skillset, finding a client is as easy as fishing in a fishpond.
