UHC is predatory
March 27, 2023

January 2022: UHC assures me that my shoulder MRI is COMPLETELY covered and I won't have to pay a dime. So I go through with it.

March 2022: I receive a bill for the MRI. I call the hospital. They send the bill back to UHC.

April 2022: I receive another bill for the MRI. So I call UHC. They say that in March 2022, MONTHS AFTER my MRI, they changed a rule and now my MRI isn't covered (even though it already happened.)

Next, I send in an appeal, explaining the details. They say f*** you, we're making you pay it.

Then, I apply for financial assistance to pay the bill. They say f*** you, we're making you pay it.

March 2023: I set up a payment plan for this bill I'm being wrongfully charged because I don't have the time or the resources to keep fighting them on it, and they know it. I can't afford for it to go to collections and drag down my credit score. I'm fully stuck in between UHC behaving in a predatory manner, and the hospital trying to get paid. And now I am forced to pay this bill I was promised wouldn't even exist, even though I make peanuts compared to both institutions.

There are things that I like about UHC. But this experience has been a nightmare for me and other people need to know that this stuff happens. If I have to pay this bill, I'm at least going to make sure others know what is going on so they can make a better choice for their health insurance.

Worst service ever (all agents are outsourced). No one can give accurate information and they argue, talk over you and repeat the same phrase over and over. They refuse to escalate to a supervisor and no one does what they promise to do. I called the phone # on the back of my card to verify that my specialist is in network with UHC and was told by UHC that he is in fact in network, in our area.
Waited 2 months to go in for the procedure and was told by Texas Central GI that they do not accept my plan. PCP was guided to submit a "gap exception so she faxed it in. Called the specialist to make another appointment and they still do not accept UHC. We've been on this merry-go-round since December 2023 and it is now the end of March! I am so frustrated that my anxiety level is at an all time high. Google UHC reviews and complaints. I am not alone. Please do not sign up with United Health Care! They will make your life miserable and waste a lot of TIME. This is not healthy for anyone. We are canceling with UHC and choosing to go with BCBS at a lower cost and better service.

I use United Health Care through my employer and am worried by their lack of accountability if this is the standard for major employer health insurance providers across the country.

I filed an appeal of a claim in Aug. 2022 by letter without response. In Dec. 2019, I was told because of the delay, I should use an email to appeal which I then used in Dec. 2019 and in Jan. 2019 after following up again without response by letter or email.

In Feb. 2023 I reached out to United by phone because the service provider had sent a letter that they'd send the bill to collections. We had a three way call with a United rep and the service provider so United could clarify what happened and that they'd failed to give accurate info.

I was given 30 days by both parties. Myself and the service provider would wait for a new appeal decision in that time.

30 days later exactly, and United said the appeal had been withdrawn when I called and I can't email an appeal despite the recommendations of two United reps previously.

So low and behold it was sent to collections and I paid the bill and suggested United pay the difference of the appeal was approved to which they accepted. Didn't offer-I had to recommend it.

Just one anecdote into the lack of accountability demonstrated so far but I feel stuck given the difficulty of changing my team's healthcare plan for everyone.

Paperwork
March 2, 2023

Every time I receive correspondence from AARP UHC I get 8 pieces of paper. I have asked over and over again to not receive any correspondence inthe mail from them. Every time I get something in the mail times 8 and 1 million received mail per customers is 8 million pieces of paper. Any of us that have kids should be outraged or extremely furious about the waste of our natural resources. I don't need to press 1 for English and I sure as hell don't need all the extra wasted pages explaining why I don't speak English

I have been to the hospital 5 times this month for scans related to heart illness, I speak to MULTIPLE surgeons on a panel that recommend open heart surgery, get it scheduled and move my entire life around to begin this harrowing process on Monday. I find out at 430 PM on Friday that everything has to be put on hold because UNITED HEALTHCARE needs more than the recommendation of multiple thoracic surgeons from MULTIPLE HOSPITALS that have come to their educated conclusion by emptying my wallet on CT scans, angioplasties, and endless blood draws. Why even go to the doctor when insurance knows more? Next time I need a life-saving procedure, I'll call an actuary since they're the ones that decide if I'm worth saving.

Frequently deny needed care for patients. I am a physician. Todays denial was because in describing the inside of the patients nose I used the words "nasal cavity" and they decided that unless my report said "interior nasal cavity" the patients service was denied! Since there is no exterior nasal cavity, and a cavity, by definition is interior, this is just them trying not to pay for a service the patient needed. They are horrible.

I changed employment in the past twelve months but am still stuck with UHC. UHC is denying a medication that works really well for me. Have spent months trying two "similar" meds (meds 2 and 3). The most recent, med 3, almost put me in the hospital. All for the sake of proving the value of the original med. Even with a letter from my doctor, UHC is denying the original med that works well for me. So who at UHC got their bonuses this year? Did they make enough money at the top? My original med costs about the same as the second med I tried (which did not work well for me but I will be forced to take or die. I cannot tolerate the third med.) Both the original med and med 2 are controlled by the same company! I am so discouraged. Beginning to not care about taking any meds to address my chronic condition. Guess this is the message UHC is sending me: they don't care about people.

Avoid if you can
February 21, 2023

The web site is very confusing and hard to navigate, with many technical flaws.
The chat support is not very helpful.
Bill payments can be done only from bank account, not from credit card.

VERY BAD CUSTUMER SERVICE
February 16, 2023

I NEEDED A DOCTOR I COULD GO TO AND CALLED THE INSURANCE TWICE HOPING I WILL GET SOMEONE I WILL UNDERSTAND, BUT NO LUCK. BOTH HAD THEIR PHONE SET SO LOW THAT I WAS UNABLE TO UNDERSTAND ANYTHING AND THE LAST ONE ALSO TALKED SO FAST LIKE SHE NEEDS TO GO SOMEWHERE. I DID TELL THEM THAT THEY NEED TO CHANGE THE VALUE OF THE PHONES, BUT IT SEEMED THEY LIKED TO MAKE FUN OF THE PEOPLE AND DIDN'T CHANGED ANYTHING. THE MONTHS BEFORE THEY SEND ME A CARD SO I CAN BUY FOOD ETC AND NO ONE EXPECTED THE CARD. SO I LOST THE MONEY. THAT COMPANY THINKS IT CAN MAKE ITS OWN RULES AND CAN TREAT PEOPLE LIKE THEY WANT. THIS SHOULD BE REPORTED. I AM 82 YEARS OLD AND DO NOT SHOULD NOT BE TREATED LIKE THAT!

Zero Stars if I could
February 7, 2023

I cannot tell you how bad UHC dental is. Had a patient say they have UHC dental and then I have the portal and representatives telling me she doesn't. I was on hold for 30 minutes while a rep was supposed to be looking into it. I was put back into the automated system after waiting on hold and asked for a manager when the next rep answered. I sat on hold yet again while she searched for a manager and came back and said there wasn't one available. This shady company gives people the run around, denies claims that should be paid and to top it off doesn't pay nearly enough for procedures for those who participate in their network. DO NOT GET UHC they are terrible, take your money and pay nothing!

I have never seen such a terrible job site like United Health Care. You would think somebody in management would see how bad their system is and fix it. The tells me senior management has NO interest in attracting good people. Unbelievable!

Their website never works and times out, claims get rejected incorrectly and the people working there are not helpful and can't do their job. There is no transparency into the claims you have submitted, and they reject them with generic coding. Their hold times are ridiculus.

The problem is not they don't provide coverage they say they have. The problem is when you do your benefits enrollment you make an uneducated guess about what you will have. There is a zero chance you know what you coverage will be (mostly nothing) in advance.
I'd rate UHC some negative value i.e. Even you don't use it at all the UHC services have zero value to you. Once you opted to their coverage actually you are loosing time, money, and health and again you need to spend time and money to recover yourself to the original state. I'd better have no coverage then have UHC one.
Our plan provides 25k lifetime limit fertility coverage saying they cover IVF, embryo transfet etc. It's ended up that they don't cover anything and all prices will be out-of-pocket with in-network provider. Basically you will spend days and weeks trying to communicate with them to know that you must pay for everything anyway.
My advice just don't use them at any cost.

I requested BNC Ins Agency in Rye Brook NY cancel my UnitedHealthcare policy on 12/19/2022. I asked the broker to follow up because, as a UHC member, I could not get service dealing direct. UHC deducted over $2000.00 in premium from my bank account 15 days after cancellation request. BNC Insurance in Rye Brook, NY has done NOTHING but take commission for a policy in force for 23 years. UHC is now advising my next premium is due! Jennifer from BNC in Rye Brook, NY has not followed up or been helpful at all. THEY BOTH STINK and complaint is being filed against both with NYS. THE WORST SERVICE, DON'T GET INVOLVED WITH EITHER!

Wonderful
January 13, 2023

My husband recently diagnosed with terminal cancer. UH has been wonderful. They check up on us, see if we need anything, offering the many services we may need including therapy for grief or just someone to talk to. It is comforting to know they are there. Patrice B-F is a caring human who is helping and has helped us throughout this time in our lives.

Poor customer service
January 5, 2023

Been on hold for over an hour. The hospital has been on hold for an hour too. My husband needs a treatment they wont approve trying to call. No one will respond or answer. This is the worst company. To make it worse they don't even cover as much.
They require prior authorization but do not answer the phone and are not helpful when they do.

I have been working for United healthcare approved agency for over 5 years now. I have never seen this kind of corruption and greed. They are only in this to line the pockets of the investors and top executives. They have now denied coverage on my homebound patients 80% of them. Some of these patients have been with the agency for over 6 years with severe conditions such as MS, amputations, stiff man syndrome, some are bedbound and then all of a sudden they are not getting coverage because they do not meet qualifying factors? What do they just rot away in their beds and die of wounds and infections? Because United is F#$ing greedy as hell. Its worse then drug money they are making money of these sick, dying elderly that are not getting serviced. I get phone calls daily from my patients crying. I refuse to work for them anymore as a nurse and will go with other agencies that do not take them as the insurer. Its down right disgusting!

Would give a ZERO to United Healthcare. Have had them for 2 years and their customer service reps are in India and are not only un-trained but considerably low IQ or COMMON SENSE. Over and over problems with claims being paid incorrectly and when you finally get a live person they are totally UNPROFESSIONAL. You have to be willing to tolerater their stupidity for 50 minutes before they "get it". I was told today that my prescription was not covered because my plan was terminated.OMG I changed to Blue Cross whose reps are in the US and that isnt effective until January 1st! He even told me if I wanted this prescription covered I would have to stay with United Healthcare. I asked for a supervisor and he sent me to an A**hole sales rep who scolded me for being upset. When I told him I was recording the call he quickly cut me off and sent me back to the Customer Service call que...Wow oh wow, I am so adamant about people being ripped off because of these idiots.especially older people who just cant or wont argue with them and give up. Save yourself lots of grief and stay away from this low life company!
