OTC sucks!
July 15, 2023

Some many products are backordered. They don't tell you unless you call. It can take weeks or months to get even needed items. They will not even consider a refund for 12 working days. I was denied a refund even though I was waiting months. The customer service call center is understaffed and overburdened so hold times even for talking to a supervisor can be almost an hour. UHC customer service is not much better.

I received a letter from my doctor saying my annual checkup visit was denied by UHC. I was told to call UHC and provide more information. I have been passed around more times than a joint at a Grateful Dead concert. I have spent a cumulative two hours on the phone with their "customer service" and still do not have the problem resolved. I am continuously transferred, put on hold, sent back to the automated menu, hung up on, etc. I haven't even scratched the surface of the issue because I've never gotten past the stage of providing identity verification.

If you want to waste incredible amounts of time listening to hold music and robotic voice commands in the tenth circle of hell, then United Healthcare is the company for you!

Buyer beware
July 10, 2023

UHC in 2022 was great. In 2023 they have been awful. First, both my dentist and my eye doctor quit doing business with them as they paid so poorly. I was forced to find new providers.
Second, they say they pay chiropractors. My chiropractor got pre-authorization for my treatment yet they refuse to pay for any treatments. For 7 months I have been told by UHC reps that it is my chiropractor's fault the claims are not paid. Yet I have been standing next to the claims processor and watched her do everything they said needed to be done so the claim would be paid, and nothing was paid. My chiropractor's office reports every other insurance company, BC/BS, Humana, Cigna has paid their claims, while UHC pays nothing.
Third, I need pulmonary therapy. The service was preuthorized by the hospital and I paid the co-pay before starting treaty. Three months into the treatment I learn the UHC now expects me to pay 20% of the therapy. Therapy I have been doing 3 times a week for three months! This is very different from what the pre-authorization said I would owe.
I will not be using UHC in 2024. I advise others to steer clear too.

Telephone customer service reps who make up answers that usually wrong, foreign-based call centers, email portal with reps who make up answers or say that your question has to be addressed on a phone call (even for straightforward questions), phone transfers that loop from rep to rep to rep, disinterested reps, reps that seem to fade in and out of consciousness during a call, EOBs that are vague and incomplete, incredibly low reimbursements to doctors, provider lists that are years out-of-date. That's UnitedHealthcare.

First of all they barely speak English They don't know what you're wanting They put you on hold transfer you you get hung up on You have to call back and you go through the same thing I spent 3 hours trying to tell somebody What I needed is I was transferred two times nobody knew what they were talking about and then I was hung up on very frustrating when time is limited customer service reps need to actually listen to what you're saying I mean I'm sure some of them are but I don't think they're understanding They communication is awful between customer service and the person calling in very very dissatisfied and frustrated

DO NOT RECOMMEND: They send out letters to get you to schedule these promising $50.00 visa gift card, they don't send it until you call five times and they insist, refuting their own letters, and say that the amount is actually $15.00 not $50.00. Total scam

Pay a premium price for sub-standard care! UHC is putting small hospitals out of business by demanding lower prices than the hospital's costs to operate. UHC refused to negotiate in good faith with the hospital system in North Georgia, which forces its patients to drive an hour away to receive care at a sub-standard hospital. This is not what we paid a great deal of money for! Since UHC is the "biggest bully" on the block, they feel they can demand whatever terms they want and have hospitals (including non-profit hospitals that offer indigent care) accept their terms, or they walk. This includes being able to change their pricing demands at any time during the contract. They also lost ALL of my claims from last year, and it took me hundreds of hours to try to get them back. I am sure many are still missing. Very, very poorly run company that doesn't care about their customers, or other hospitals. We have been with UHC for over 20 years, and within the last 3 years, their customer service has fallen to the bottom of the pile. There is no customer service! Save your money and go with a reputable healthcare company. Hopefully this one won't be in business for long.

Spent 3 hours on the phone attempting to get some information about my plan. Was transferred more times than I remember and hung up on. Yelled at by customer service because I was transferred to the wrong department, treated like an idiot who didn't know my own name. Ridiculous treatment for the amount paid into this company

Over the counter site goes down and they expire your monthly benefits when UHC failed to provide the service They pretend to "escalate" but the issue never gets addressed. UHC may be commuting fraud in the way they intentionally disregard corporate failures.

Worst customer service ever. I wanted information on a virtual appointment for poison ivy. I was transferred or had to call again. Spoke to 7 different representatives (5 from UHC and 2 from Optum Virtual Care). The UHC representatives all have strong foreign accents and the last one didn't even know what poison ivy is; she transferred to poison control in another state. Two of the connections were garbled. I was not able to get any assistance. My recomendation: if you don't have to get UHC coverage, don't. Zelia L.

The rewards program is completely useless since they changed to the "U" card. There is no way to spend them. I have tried several merchants and they cannot read the card. I have called customer service about this several times and they say the merchant hasn't been trained to use this card or I am using it at a merchant not on their "list". They totally messed up a program that once worked easily.

You guys blew me off on Friday for my doctor's appointment for a post-op then you guys reschedule it for Monday and cancel it again by telling me it was not booked early enough this is not the way you need to do business when you have people that need to go to a doctor an hour away and can't drive

Awful. For such a big company with unlimited resources.

1. they use 3rd party authentication that requires you to go to a separate site to log in. Then it asks for this with every link you click. Then once you've logged in, it forgets which link you're trying to navigate to. Awful.

2. the documents that actually contain useful information (e.g. Coverage details) do not exist. You click through 5 links to get to something helpful, and then that document doesn't exist online.

Awful

I called to find out if orthotic foot supports were covered. I was on the phone for 20 mins with someone that I couldn't even understand, she even ask me if orthotic was a machine. I asked to speak with someone that could speak English. I finally got someone, and he started asking me how to spell words, completely unbelievable. Horrible customer service.

Criminal: what health care has no one working on Sat, Sun even for emergency. I was suddenly hospitalized. Called uhc which is AARP and asked for the transport number (a 3rd party group) CS refused to give direct number and assured "even if after hours the providers have the number" a lie. Sat. Needed to go home (dog alone on heart medicine could die, 2 days alone) Hospital had no number for transport. Had gone to hospital emerg which transfered me to main hospital. Ambulance would not take me back to the hospital where car was and I would have to walk 8 miles in the dark to get it because I had no way to contact transport, NO ONE THERE, VOICE MAIL FULL. Hospital had no number to get through. UHC does everything to prevent service and gives false info. Called Mon cs gave nothing but excuses and claimed transport available 24-7 but you have no access to them. CS CAN ONLY TRANS. YOU TO THEM. Conceal all numbers from memembers that are needed!

They change rewards to UHC UCARD and only good for health items. Before we got Visa Debit card and could use it for anything. Also When to First Line for Health items. Takes 7 to? Days to ship. They ship wrong item and said they will correct mistake. (still not done) Aso put in order on 4/3 and still pending on 4/13. Should go back to old service. Read reviews and see how many people had problems.

United healthcare is good so far however their programs suck. Healthy benefits are a rip off. They take your money but provide nothing in exchange. It is more a headache than a benefit! Also when I try to contact Uhc my navigator is never there. I have been cheated manumy times by the people at healthy benefits and I am considering taking legal action. I give them a zero 0 rating! They offer dental services but impossible to find a decent dental office for this service.
