They lie
December 26, 2023

I called in October to make sure my upcoming routine dental appointment would be covered. I had had some dental work earlier in the year but the representative assured me routine visits were covered outside of the maximum benefits allowable. They lied. My claim was denied and when I called them they ran me around and wanted me to submit an appeal in writing that may or may not be resolved in 30 days. I will not continue to do business with a company that is not truthful. As soon as enrollment opens I will jump ship. Do not trust UHC, they are not truthful.

I got tossed around a lot before I got to the right representative. The phone reception and was bad with a lot of background noise. The Reps do not have English as their first language. Hard to understand the accents. Had to wait on hold for a while too.

Didn't cover surgery
October 30, 2023

When I poop, the toilet is filled with blood. A colonoscopy (which was covered by United Healthcare) revealed polys which need to be removed. United Healthcare is denying coverage of the surgery to remove the polys.

I can't find the words to adequately express how crappy the service is a UHC. Folks on phone are friendly - but unable to solve problems.

Bad customer service
September 25, 2023

Every time I call UCH to get information, I end up having to talk to a person who does not speak respectable English. I don't feel as if they understand what I'm asking and I sure as heck can't understand them. It's very irritating and frustrating!

They don't pay benefits! The "code" they have for ER is so bad, that UHC is sued by the US Department of Labor for not paying claims for the hospital admissions via ER. Optum Rx pharmacy that UHC uses for mail-in order has service close to nothing. I have high blood pressure, my doctor sent a new prescription, and more than a week after that I still didn't receive my new meds.

Customer Service
September 2, 2023

Worst customer phone service I have ever encountered-took 15 minutes to get to a live customer rep and she was the rudest rep I have ever encountered-she was hard to understand and would keep interrupting me-when I asked to speak to a supervisor she said none was available, found that hard to believe, she the just hung upon me—I emailed the company my concerns and they replied it would take 3 days for them to respond-cost them a customer

A shame - stay away
September 1, 2023

Stay away from them. They never answer a single question, or when they answer, they refer to a situation which is not yours, as if they had mixed up files and cases... eg: I asked them about coverage for my son who is studying abroad for a few months; their answer (as they have written it to me) is below. Seems like a robot who doesn't know what they are doing - the only answer I needed was the last sentence. The rest is very confusing. "Enjoy" this piece if you can!
They also rejected some care coverage because they said these were part of a "routine check up" when in fact they were part of the care of spine fracture (for which they had covered the costs of a brace and MRI etc). It took me several emails and calls to correct.
They are very expensive for standard routine medications vs other insurance companies I have had in the past.
And finally they easily claim some docs are out of network, so no coverage, until you remind them and... - oops indeed they are in network, we will pay you back.

Email (out of respect for the employee I "xxx" her name) if you can laugh a bit about this:
"Thank you for contacting United Health Care. My name is RXX, I hope you are doing well. I have received your message regarding benefits for foreign coverage details.
After the careful review, I see that the Services needed as a result of a flight on a privately owned plane.
Health care services received in a foreign country that are not an emergency. This exclusion does not apply to services received in Mexico or Canada.
Routine foot care. Examples include the cutting or removal of corns and calluses. This exclusion does not apply to preventive foot care for diabetics. See Diabetes Services.
Services provided due to service in the military
Services performed by a doctor who is a family member by birth or marriage. Examples include a spouse, brother, sister, parent or child.
Act of war or caused during service in the armed forces of any country. This exclusion does not apply to covered persons who are civilians injured or affected by any act of war, or terrorism in non-war zones.
As I have gone through your concern, I would like to inform you that as per the plan benefits only emergency service (ER and Urgent care claims only) are covered under your plan."

The car doesn't work the doctor they put down I never even had him as a doctor and don't believe what the app tells you the money that you have left because it will not be right and I tried to explain to them to fix it and they will not they need somebody there that are going to do their job I drove a half hour one way to get to a grocery store for food and was turned around and had to come back home because I was on the app said $39.84 and when I got to the store I had no money so before you use your card always call in to see what your balance is because it'll never be correct and they do not cover all your bills only if you live in the city they'll pay your bills city water electric phone you have to drive to these places to pay them I live out in the country to pay a $35 phone bill would cost me $30 to drive there to pay for it they have to learn how to pay the bills online like everybody else when I try to pay a bill of the company are you kidding me why can't they pay it online most companies will not give you their address because it's their corporate office and that's not where they're billing is and that's why my s*** cannot be paid through this so if you live outside the city you're screwed as a poor person I can't help it where I live but damn it fix your damn s***

Their Prescription cost $ 115/month and their covered prescriptions are 30% more expensive. Ask your pharmacist to check price of prescription vs other insurance coverage and GoodRX.
Cannot get off their plan, They will keep on taking money till you go bankrupt / or bank account is drained and then they follow up with phone calls. What a trick on older people. It is a shame that there is no one to keep them in check

Just stay sick
August 18, 2023

This is absolute GARBAGE. I have had lousy insurance before, but I would rather pay out of pocket with no "insurance" at all. $50 COPAY for a 15 minuite checkup appointment. And then you get to pay for EVERYTHING 100% entirely out of pocket - and also of course pay the monthly insurance premiums. Customer service is a joke sh!t show with the most incompetent people the human race has to offer.
No, thank you, UHC. I will just wait for death.

In the past, UHC has been a very good insurance company, however, their partnering with Optum Rx is dragging them down. When there is a complaint, nothing but lip service is replied.
