Rented a truck for a move across states. $700+ Got movers through uhaul $300 something. I had a reservation # and paid in full for the truck a 26 foot. When I went to pick up the truck there was none there to be had. But they took my money. The movers were scheduled for 10:30-11am. The truck should have been there at that time. Nope. Still no truck. Unfortunately you can't get anyone on a Saturday on the phone at 1800uhaul who had any way to fix this very big issue. I spent 4 hours in the phone with 1800 uhaul when I should have been moving and on the road. My friend also on the phone for hours found a truck in rincon. I had to send a friend with an Uber $40. She was confronted by a very rude and short employee who was down right rude, even to me over the phone. Now uhaul decided to refund my truck money, but guess what that takes days to show up so I was stuck scrambling to find another $700+ to pay for the truck we could find. Then I had to change the movers. I didn't leave my house until after 6 pm not arriving to my destination until after 3am when I should have arrived around 7pm in time for dinner. Nope, not if your dealing with uhaul. I was lucky to get out of the day I needed to as the new owners are moving in. Uhaul made what should have been a small easy fast moved into a living traumatic nightmare.so right now I'm out well over $1400 for one truck and uhaul is sending me text wanting the truck back 2 days early. I still am waiting on my refund for the first truck.
I ordered a truck for three days on 26th July 2023. I received an email back that stated two days. I phoned and corrected the order and they approved it. Two hours later, I received a call stating that they could not do two days, only one. One hour later, I received another call on my cell phone, this time saying they could not meet my requirement. Two hours later, yet another call, this time to state that they could not meet the order.
Today, I get a call saying they can do three days, and all is good. I asked them to confirm, and they apologized and confirmed they could definitely meet the dates. Just now I received a fifth call stating that they CANNOT meet my needs. I canceled.
I can only advise that you check your order carefully, every line and every word. If your order is greater than one day, I would advise that you ensure you verify in writing, at least twice.
I rented 15' truck. Supposed to get 10 mpg.
I drove flat roads with extremely light load.
They claimed it was 5/8 full at pickup. No.
Whoever read the gauge made a mistake. It was a hair over half. I put $20 in less than mile from U-Haul. 4.6 gallons.
They stated I drove 45 miles. They charged me $25 for 4 gallons. 4.6 plus 4 equal 8.6 gallons. It calculated out to 5 mpg. Their websites say this truck gets 10 mpg.
So, they had to misread the gauge. Figures don't lie. I know what 5/8 full looks likes on a gas gauge. It was not 5/8. The agent was flippant about it. I was pissed. You might as well call me a liar. I don't even give a $#*! about the money, but don't think I'm an idiot or a cheating liar. If you rent from them you better read all the fine print. God, I hope all U-Haul outlets aren't like this one. Horrible experience.
Went and had a hitch installed on my vehicle. I later noticed that U-haul had removed the spare tire and the holder that holds it in place. I called and told them about it but they can't find it. They said they would check the cameras, but of course they wouldn't show me. I put in a claim but of course it was denied. I'll never use their services ever again.
My husband and I rented a 20 ft truck and had to the 24/7 pick up. The app is impossible to work, and they scanned my husband's driver's license and tried to claim it was fake! Come to find out U-Haul doesn't recognize Arizona drivers license. But they ended up black listening us and screwed us! We almost weren't able to move our belongings! Horrible customer service and a horrible company. I am suing them for damages!
I rented a truck for 1999 when all was said and done that was charged $44 with mileage and all for the weekend but they also came up with a cost of $84 for a broken cap which is amazing I would never do business with U-Haul again they are scamming and looking for any way to make an extra buck it's a scamscamming
I hope i never have to deal with u-haul ever again. First the dolly and blanket were missing from back. I got all the way to my location and couldn't move the fridge because they were missing. Then i had to deal with customer service for an hour to get the money back. They never ended up making the adjustment. After returning the the vehicle the guy there checked the vehicle and returned the charge, and i paid for the adjusted amount. Then the day after returning vehicle, they double charged my account again. Had to call my credit card company to verify. They said before it posts i have to dispute through merchant. Chatted with uhaul and even provided account screen shots and he was useless. Did not charge the money back. Buy beware, wish i could give -5 stars. UHAUL is a terrible company and needs more competition!
Houma Louisiana, store. I walked in was the only person in the store one girl at the counter, didn't acknowledge me at all, kept typing on her laptop. I waited two minutes for someone then I proceeded to the other person behind the counter, which he was on his texting on his cell phone. I asked for help with three boxes dimensions that I needed. She said I would have to go find my own boxes that they were all in the middle of the store so I proceeded to do just that. I took down two display boxes to try to find the dimensions and see what I needed. She proceeded to approach me and tell me that I was messing up their displays. I said well if you would've helped me in the first place, I wouldn't have to be doing this myself. I told her I will put your displays back ma'am after I find the boxes I need. She proceeded to put her finger up and walk away like she was going to go report me. I put the boxes back and left the store. I proceeded to udrop, which was a rating of 100+ as compared to U-Haul on -50. When I walked in the door, they said ma'am I'll be right with you and helped me extremely fantastic customer service. I never write a review and complain, but this was over the top. I will never step foot back in UHaul. UDrop is the place for boxes, shipping and supplies!
We all have seen or heard about the movie "JAWS." The one line everyone remembers about the movie is "JUST WHEN YOU THOUGHT IT WAS SAFE TO GO BACK INTO THE WATER." Just when I thought the three UHaul containers was going to be moved to my residents they became hostages instead. Yep, hostage since May 2023 when I signed a contact with them to be transported to the coliseum location. Due to miscommunication about shipment I had a brief conversation with the traffic coordinator prior in Colorado. In addition I was provided an email to contact the individual for transporting the containers upon my arrival to NC. This is what I was told "since I am up the road from the coliseum I can have your boxes dropped when you arrive. You are only about twenty minutes away. So that would not be a problem." Well, it has now become a hostage for additional money to be paid for transporting the containers. I had scheduled the movement and notice UHaul wanted to charge additional fees after stating there would be NO CHARGE.
Called the local I rented from no answer
Called roadside assistance
Freaking joke
Flat tire
Middle desert billion degrees
Screw U-Haul
Rented a moving pod. Struck with it days after the contract was over.
The space was previously rented out to paying guests at our air bnbs.
Was told after 4 days of calling that the trick was broken. Hope to get there by Sunday!
So now my guests have to tandem park. We are paying for parking for our cat. Apparently uhaul doesn't care about small businesses or guest service.
So my future crap reviews due to parking inconveniences will be paid by who? Uhaul? I doubt it. Likely just end up making my children go without.
You'll be getting a bill for me parking at the beach. And my loss of income. And the inconvenience.
Uhal is one of the worst moving rental companies out there to deal with. They are scammers. They charged me the amount that I owed the day I returned their truck then months later I got an invoice that went to collects for another amount of $50.00 with out being informed. So not only that they have been dishonest with check out they have ruined my credit rating. They are clearly not honest to deal with. I'd stay away from these guys and go with someone else.
Very surprised at the costs for my rental, imo over 100$ was charged to my account, that I do not agree with, nor does it line up with the prices shown on line
Will not use again
I just finished a complicated move across Pennsylvania that involved picking up a truck in one location, and dropping it off in another, while setting up a storage unit online. The process was intuitive and customer service was excellent!
This was the worst experience ever, first time ever renting a truck from you. My rental went from a 19.95 truck to actually getting charged 157.00, the truck had 3/8 of a tank and returned it with that much or even a bit more and they are charging me to refuel a full tank. Definitely disputing the charges and never ever renting a uhaul in my life again
I can't even leave a proper review on their website because the only thing they allow me to review is the pickup and drop off location. I can't review their service or the actual truck itself.
I had a long distance move. During which the app and website both kept failing, kept resetting while i was trying to use it, kept logging me out in the middle of looking something up. Customer service was a joke, everybody redirected me to someone else, only to find out two days later that the question i was asking "wasn't even a possibility." It was impossible to get a hold of my "local scheduling manager", whom I got redirected to several times. I was automatically put on hold after the phone stopped ringing and nobody ever answered.
So FYI - you can't upgrade insurance after you already have an uhaul reservation. Which doesn't make any sense. I would have paid to upgrade it. Even though their website claims you can "edit an existing reservation", all you can actually edit is where you will be dropping the truck off to. Nothing else.
The air in our truck stopped working the first few hours of our trip and it was a very hot day. It started working again after 3 hours or so, thankfully.
I'm really disappointed in uhaul - they were shockingly terrible for having such a large presence.
Research Blvd. Austin, Tx
Property trained counter staff would be a good start, and having more than one person at the counter at all times would be helpful. I lost valuable time and money, because of a scheduling screwup on U-Haul's end.
I called a local Uhaul gas station to see if they had a car dolly available. They said yes, but that I would have to call the reservation number. I did and they said that location did not have a car dolly. I gave them another location to check which I was familiar with. They had one and made the reservation. I drove down there, filled out the paperwork and gave them a credit card. When they went to attach it to my truck, the unit was dagaged and couldn't be used. They sent me back up to Langhorne. They only had a car carrier, but would charge me what I would have paid for the car dolly. Somehow the price went from $47.65 up to $170. After arguing for 30 minutes, I finally got them down to $70.14. I was still overcharge. The female employee was very nice and tried as best she could with the reservation person on the phone, but couldn't get it any lower. I'd give you the contract number, but I can't read the paperwork since the ink probably ran out a month ago. When I came back two hours later to return the car carrier, she waqs the only employee there. My son and I helped her push the car caqrrier into a space to get it out of the way. My son worked for Uhaul over 20 years ago. Nothing has improved since then. My reservation number was *******.
Me and my husband has rented many uhal trucks, van, trailers in the past but the last two we rented was a nightmare.
Our truck broke down out of town with a trailer and when I called to see if I could drop off the trailer at a closer location, We was told NO to go rent a truck to bring back their trailer to the same location we got it from. After this experience, we will be taking our business to another company including our 4 storage units that we pay $1000.+ every three months!
Three strikes for this company.
1. Lazy guy wanted my grandpa to get a different hitch and said he would install, since we were moving at the time and had no tools available and then he would let us rent a trailer. We get the hitch but then he changes his mind and won't do it or let us borrow the tools to do it ourselves.
2. Several years later rented a truck for a 24 mile round trip, put approximately 4 gallons in it when I returned it,just to have the skinny punk kid say I had used and not replaced EIGHT MORE GALLONS. Unless U-Hauls $#*!ty old trucks only get 2 mpg with only a half load, then this is a scam.
3. If you rent any of their vehicles make sure and take a time stamped photo of the mileage before and upon returning it ( or better yet avoid u haul like the plague) they either don't keep good account of the mileage on these vehicles or far more likely, they are screwing people on purpose, like charging my best friend for over 200 miles when he went 120 max.
I would give them NO stars if I could.
Answer: Thought it would be cheaper but worst experience ever and they stole lots of $ from me.
Answer: UHAUL IS CHEATING PEOPLE OUT OF THERE MONEY. OVER CHARGES BY CHEATING YOU. There equipment clearly stated rent me $19.99per day. Not $109. Or $126.61. Per day.
Answer: Scammy. Just try leaving a negative review for uhaul itself (not the little mom n pop pickup/dropouts the big company responsible for the bull)...it's impossible
Answer: From my experience I've noticed uhaul only allows you to review the pickup and dropped location and generally where I am at least, those folks are great and helpful. The huge conglomerate running the show is at fault but there seems to be no way to easily review them specifically. They screwed me too and I wondered the same. Maybe some folks had a positive experience but I believe you are correct. Negative reviews are definitely being screened out. Sorry you had a crappy move too.
Answer: I did a complaint online and then called but with the same result, they couldn't find me in their system. I need to wait 24 to 72 hours for the manager to investigate.
