Please avoid ever booking with Turo. Worst and scariest experience I have ever had booking a car. We rented a vehicle last week. Made sure to document all damages during checkin. A soon as you hit 60mph the vehicle would shake barely controlable. The vehicle was not safe to drive. When we returned the vehicle the host claimed the same windshield damage which was included with pictures in our checkin process. When we disputed the host got vengeful and claimed smoke damage as well with no proof of smoking. We thought we would be okay because Turo wouldn't stand for such a scam. Needless to say, Turo immediately blocked my account and began unlawfully charging my credit card. Their only response was we trust our host and provided zero proof or explanation. After multiple fraudulent charges we had to make a report to our creditors. Turo will never help the guest, be prepared for more hidden fees after the end of the trip. We feel completely scammed. All the pictures before and after did nothing to help. Turo didn't even care to review them. "Our decision is made" and nothing you say will change that was their response to a multiple 5 star guest.
Do not book with Turo. They simply will lie about refunding your trip and reimbursing the fees. Do NOT BOOK
If I could put "0"I would do that. The day before my trip I got message that my trip was canceled due to car crash which I booked. I got email from support team " No worries!. And bla-bla-bla". As a result I spent 2 days on phone trying to find a car and I didn't! 1 host didn't respond, 2nd canceled saying "Sorry, I didn't check my calendar. The car is not available" Than appeared an error with payment. Turo assistance was playing in ping-pong game with me. Finally, MY MONEY was AGAIN taken from my credit card! So they took my money twice and I DIDN't get a CAR!
So now I have to spend days trying to get my money back!
My host cancelled on me less than 24 hours prior to the trip. I could not find a replacement vehicle via Turo, therefore I had to book via a third party website. The cheapest vehicle I could find last minute cost $1230 CAD. The cancelled Turo ride cost just under $700.00. Turo did not do anything to help us or pay us the difference. They have a poor customer service. I just used twice their platform, and twice I had an issue. I will not use again Turo.
I used turo for the first time starting on 7/25/2022 with my husband. We used the car to drive my 84 year old mother around post a car accident for which she was hospitalized. We had been very happy with the rental and returned it on time with more gas than we had received on check in and ready to give high marks and be repeat customers. We were then notified that the host reported cigarette ashes in the car and we are being charged a penalty and kicked off the site. We do not smoke, we hate the smell of smoke, and we were not even around anyone who smoked over our stay. We were given no way to appeal this, no one to contact, and are completely flummoxed at this business model which would allow anyone to up charge by hundreds of dollars by dropping their own ashes into the car. They immediately charged us another $257 upon the false accusation. The customer is then immediately kicked off the site and given no way to appeal. I guarantee you no one smoked in that car or anywhere near that car or before or after entering that car. We are incensed at the false accusation and charge and will never use this site again. We travel very often to see family and rent cars very often. I am reporting this treatment to as many review sites as I can and to the Better Business Bureau.
I am currently on the phone fighting over a refund due to the many lies I have been feed. This is not my first trip with Turo, but will for sure be my last. My car was in looked to be in okay condition when I picked it up. Looks can be deceiving. First the oil change was needed the day after I rented the car, and I only put 125 miles before that, then the low coolant light came on, and then the battery died. I called roadside assistance, and was told that even though I was 92 miles from where I picked up the car I would still get a car. The tow truck gets the car, and I call the cancellation team like I was told to. They tell me they can not get a car to me, but that they will allow me to get the car, and then charge me extra to return it to the airport I was flying out of. I got upset yes, but did not curse or anything against the CSR, but they still hung up on me. I called back, and was offered $50 Uber credit. I was offered a full refund since the credit was not enough to get me back to the airport. These calls ended with me being told a supervisor will follow up. Nothing, and every time I call back I get a different story, and no supervisor and guarantee a call back. Do not consider renting from them.
The initial rental booking went smoothly. Then unexpectedly, our flight was cancelled so, logically, I changed our Turo reservation immediately so the host would not be inconvenienced.
Because our reservation was adjusted by a day, we were suddenly charged an additional $70 delivery fee which was originally waived because our trip was 7 days. Somehow, this translates to costing more for one less day. When I reached out to Turo customer service, I got on a two hour roller coaster ride of customer service messaging on their app leading to calls to a service center that looped back to links to the billing department. Eventually, we were told that the only way we could avoid the additional charge is by asking the host to send us a message to waive it and taking a screen shot of that message. Talk about crazy and unprofessional! We will never get that time back and will obviously never use Turo again.
Advertised price on their site was $11 per day less than price shown when I proceeded book. Their customer service 'explained' that the additional cost was a booking fee. When I pointed out that the booking fee was also shown in the total as a separate item, she told me that was how their system worked. No thanks, this is blatant false advertising and I'll take my business elsewhere.
Its so many dishonest vendors out there putting out raggedy cars and using Turo to steal from honest people. Never rent in Chicago
Ok. Buissness in LA was going to hire a turo car, it was a normal car 4 door 5 days cost was. 480 USA, now I had to go to the car or I could get the owner to pick me up extra 60 USA so it's now 540. Then you need to take the extra insurance cover to reduce you excess from 8000 usa 500 USA 26.50 a day, so now we are at 650 approx USA. No that's just over $1000 Australia. So I go to budget. LAX Airport 4 door standard car brand new 2021 488 Australia that's right not USA. Ultimate cover insurance 34$ a day Australia so no excess nothing to pay if you have a accident, which I hope Never happens, so we're about 750 Australian. I land go to budget they take the info bus me to my car I get in drive out get scanned, then bring it back to the car lot scanned. On budget Bus back to the terminal. Home.
Now the turo way I have to bring the car back to the person's home get a taxi back to the airport 60 bucks.
So I am better off using a reptible company. No saying that. You can hire cheap ones in London 20 pound I hire one it's was a wreck. My life is worth more. Best luck happy holidays. Ps might be a few spelling mistakes but I am a tradie no a jurno
1ST AND LAST TIME I HIRED A CAR FROM THIS COMPANY. WHOLE MY LIFE I DONT GET HIRED AGAIN. I DID A LITTLE DAMAGE. BEFORE HIRING I GET AGREEMENT AND BUY THEIR STANDARD PROTECTION PLAN. BUT THEY IGNORED THIS AGREEMENT AND WANT TO PAY WHOLE DAMAGE COST. THEY DOT GET DOING THEIR ANY RESPONSIBILITIES. THEY ARE LYING TO ME EVERYTIME.
Rented a car from 'Snardy' in Orlando, Genesit G80. Plane landed and he didn't answer my text for a half hour. After the trip he claimed I smoked in the car, I've never smoked a day in my life, and smoke was there before or he planted it. When I complained to Turo, they cancelled my account, good riddance. Never had an issue like this in 40years of business travel. Another shady host tried to get me to send her $300 for a 'security deposit', completely against Turo rules. If you like high end cars, ask a real rental company in bigger cities if they have them. They usually do and will often negotiate the price, without the fraud, drama, and harrassment I got from Turo.
Worst customer service I have ever experienced aside from Robinhood. They do not listen, do not read the issues at hand, they respond from a general alias and are nearly impossible to reach by phone. Their call line is a joke and will hang up on you at any moment. DO NOT WORK WITH TURO. They take a huge fee and provide almost no assistance. Their timeline for damage reports are too short and they do not look at pre and post pictures of your car.
Turo is the etsy of the car rental business. I had to have my bank take them to court to refund 400 charge they fraudulently put on my card. I didn't even get a chance to pick up car. All I can tell you is avoid them like the plague.
11/20/2021 - We have friends that use Turo when traveling. We decided to try it. My wife went on their website and reserved a Chevy SUV from Michael M in Tampa Florida. We live in San Diego. Got up at 3am to catch our flight, had a layover in Houston, got to Tampa at 6pm. My wife had been in contact with Michael a couple of times letting him know when we were going to be picking it up. The day we flew in, we could not get a hold of him. He did not answer our texts nor return our phone calls. It costs us $35 ($30 Lyft ride + $5 tip) to get from the airport to his place. He was nowhere to be found, it was now 7pm and it was not the safest neighborhood. If my wife were by herself, it would not have been a good situation. We called Turo, they couldn't get a hold of him and now we were at the mercy of the "Legit" car rental companies to hopefully get a rental. My wife called Lyft and back to the airport (another $35) we went. Was able to get a rental from Thrifty (BIG THANK YOU to THIRFTY) and headed to our hotel in Clearwater. Turo said they will reimburse us for the rental (really, I'd hope so, they were talking about giving us a credit for future rides, HAHAHAHA) and $50 more toward the Lyft charges. We wanted to leave a review about Michael M on their website so the next person would know, but there is NO place on the Turo website to do that. We even called Turo the next day inquiring how to warn others; we were told there is no way. Bottom Line: if you use Turo, you have no idea who you are actually renting from or what area you are going to be picking it up from or even if they are going to show. If it weren't for Thrifty we would have been in a real crisis; renting from Turo costs us two extra hours of an already long day and (as long as they follow through with reimbursements) $20 in Lyft charges (they would only reimburse $50).
When we discovered on the last day of our trip that the insides of the two front tires on the car we had rented via Turo.com were bald with the steel belt showing, we felt thankful to still be here and couldn't believe we were in this situation. The host of the car had been on the Turo site for a long time and had rented his car out many times... maybe too many times. We drove over 1,000 miles on steep grade highways with limited shoulders to pull off onto and few guardrails for safety throughout the state of Colorado. We also took scenic byways with sheer drop-offs, such as the Million Dollar Highway. Our trip ended by rerouting to a larger highway in order to locate a tire store. Finally, 5 tire stores and half the day later, we spoke with the assistant manager of a Discount Tire store. He advised us that the two front tires could blow out at any time and that the two rear tires were in the red danger zone, according to Colorado state law. We were able to get in touch with the host who paid for 4 new tires to be installed right then. The host offered to give us a discount on our rental for our trouble, but did not. We contacted Turo, but their only offer was to give us a $50. Credit toward our next rental on Turo.com, which we have no desire to do. It is clear to us that policy and regulations need a good makeover. Please be aware that each host on the Turo.com site operates independently and may or may not take the full responsibility of renting out their car to the public with the best safety precautions. Be smart, stay safe.
I had an extremely unsettling experience my 1st time using Turo & will never attempt to use this service again. The couple I tried to book a car with advertised "unlimited miles." Long story short, when they discovered I was renting a car to go from SC to Ohio, they attempted to charge me more. I simply told them no thanks, suggested they should not false advertise & wished them well. My message was that simple. They proceed to send me LONG messages, telling me no need to be rude, that it's their car & they can do what they want. My response was "I'm a businesswoman & simply providing feedback." That was it. They continued to send me messages attacking me, telling me to save my "criticism," "keep my emotions out of it & my snide little comment." I was dumbfounded w/ their aggressiveness. I had to ask them to "please stop sending me messages." Well they didn't. They proceed to send me ANOTHER message after that, making smart, nasty comments & I could see they were still typing yet ANOTHER message, so I literally had to close my Turo account to get them to stop. I looked at their ad on Turo after I deleted my acct and they had changed their "unlimited mileage" to charge for miles over 600. They did not handle the constructive feedback well & will ultimately result in Turo losing quality customers going forward. Sorry about this long post, but the experience really was unsettling. (**This was a white 2016 bmw 3 series, under the name Patrick, near Greenville, SC. He has 5 star reviews, but these were only from the ppl who rented the car locally since 5/2021. You cannot leave a review of the host if they decline you, as in my situation, even though I was approved by Turo. He knew once he declined me that I could not leave a review on his page, which is why he proceeded to harass me after that. It was truly unbelievable & I sent screenshots of the exchange to Turo Customer Service). I would have booked another car through someone else on Turo. However, this experience was so unsettling, that I will go through a rental car company from now on.
They'll lie to you and anything else to get you to pay their INFLATED fees then leave you stranded! We were taken advantage of by a seller who wanted new tires, they canceled our insurance on the car & charged us double what they'll cost and closed the amount until we paid it. We then paid it after personally getting confirmation that our account we gain full access again after payment and they closed the account soon as we paid. Nobody can be trusted, they're all pawns used to lie to you for a single person behind a computer to screw anyone who expects fairness. I wouldn't recommend them if it was FREE
I suppose your overall experience with Turo.com will totally depend on your host and dependabilityof their vehicle(s). I had a great host that was very accommodating to my night shift work schedule. I would suggest getting a host with more than just a few positive reviews and a vehicle that isn't extremely old.
High fees, but valuable services. Have used it to rent cars last minute in small cities and even in London. Cars were in good condition and there is obviously more choice in bigger cities.
Answer: No way to reach anyone to resolve issues or report issues to.
Answer: It's still kind of mom and pop but it seems to be real. The chat was completely broken when I tried it but the phone picked up. However, despite the U.S. number advertising 24/7, that does not include billing questions. This is fairly typical so I would not begrudge them for it.
