I have been a loyal customer of Turbotax for decades but this year I am a newlywed filing a joint return. In early April I filed an extension and scheduled payment of taxes. The payment was in my account but when on April 21 I saw it was not removed i called and was told it was rejected. I was shocked - no notification - but paid by April 25. Working through my wife's brokerage statements which I finally obtained I was at least pleasantly surprised that when added my taxes were reduced and I awaited a refund. Just this week I got a notice saying you owe interest for 10 days $61, AND you are getting a 6652 Failure to File Penalty and Failure to pay penalty ($1,523)! As I had filed a case in April when this was uncovered BY MEi called Turbotax today. They basically said not our fault you should have seen something. When i suggested they take note and make sure this did not happen to others they were rude, not my job. My take away is caveat emptor, Turbotax is a tool for filing, but file early and check independently what they claim.to do (better perhaps is print and mail with check). I really thought the company was at least interest in continuous improvement (I did not expect "my bad, let us pay your penalty"). Perhaps if you pay up for "audit protection" they might be more caring but i know my info is sound. All in all not worth premium compared to others as any image of care oe uniqueness is a lie. Best way for a disappointed customer to convey things is via reviews. I actually see i am not alone at my disdain. AVOID, plenty of better options.

Garbage

Filed with them for years on a free advertising tip. Paid the amount even thought it said it was free. And then only got 29$ from the settlement. 29$ is not the full amount of money I paid to have my taxes filed. TurboTax is a huge thieving company that steals from its customer while lying too them. I would never use turbo tax or recommended it to anyone.

Paid for the Full Service (top tier) option, but TurboTax did not enter my Local Tax of $942 as being paid, even though it was clearly on my W-2. This of course resulted in my account being debited $942. I'm not exaggerating when I say it took 7 reps over 4 weeks to figure out how to amend my taxes. Every rep I spoke with had no idea how the site worked, so 10-20-30 years worth of tax experience meant absolutely nothing because they were all seasonal workers (working from home) who don't know how to use the TurboTax site to amend a return. Each one made promise after promise knowing that as soon as they hung up with me, I'd have no way to ever contact them again. They'll communicate through a chat feature, but the chats disappear within a few days, so again, unless you take screen shots, you have no record of communication. I have never felt as angry with a company as I am currently with Intuit and TurboTax. If you want to speak with someone, you have to schedule a call which can be 4 days from when you want to speak with someone. And then when they call, they'll pass you from rep to rep, each of whom have you do the same thing the previous rep did, and it's infuriating. If you care about customer service, stay as far away as you can from this company.

Been using TurboTax for nearly 20 years. Never again, this year was horrible. My "scheduled" Federal Tax return did not get sent which resulted in a $225 late fee. There was no reminder notification to send or that the return hadn't been sent. I was awaiting a debit from bank and after a week I checked on the return to see it was not in fact not sent despite selecting that as an option. Maryland return was awkward and printed 14 plank pages in the middle of the form and the lines printed off the lines, a mess. I tried to reach out to share my thoughts directly with TurboTax, but you are completely unable to find a "feedback" link to share your experience, only automated Q&A - totally frustrating. So very unhappy with them. I'm completely done with this product even if I have to pay someone to do my future tax returns. Makes no sense to me that you have a product that works so well for so long and its a complete bomb for 2022.

I've spent over an hour trying to complete the declaration for my daughter. She won very little money have a ~6$ refunds. Obviously I don't want to spend 20$ to fill declaration for a 6$ refund. But Intuit Turbo Tax despite all their ads and claim that you can do a free declaration keep asking for paying 20$. I can't complete the dam thing without paying.

When I click on refund, the next screen is the payment screen.

This is a pure lie and I'm very disappointed!

Good thing I'm not using their software for my own declaration.

Turbo Tax has fallen so far. Their product is no longer educational nor supportive in that all explanations are pure tax-jargon. Additionally, their internal navigation forces one to move step-by-step through tens of iterative steps to get back to any one desired location within your return (the days of specific site navigation are over).

And, there's SO much more... BUT here's the worst of it all:

The Design of Turbo Tax is Predatory. They consistently offer "upgrades" to more advanced and costly products within their suite. Their promotions are relentless. BUT, should you click on an upgrade just to see what it has to offer, you are LOCKED INTO THE UPGRADE. The ONLY way to "downgrade" from the "upgrade" is to CLEAR YOUR DATA, and start from scratch.

Despite hours of phone time with agents in my attempts to downgrade back to the lower product I needed, NO such refund was possible. That said, the agents did say that they would work on the downgrade behind the scenes but neither were able. So, I was overcharged for a product I neither wanted to needed.

Lastly (just to be merciful because I could rail on them for hours), THERE'S A CONVENIENCE FEE for paying the government by credit card of 2.49% of the amount you are paying. Thus, for my $3000 tax bill to the government, there was a $80 convenience fee (rounding numbers)!

As such, I PAID $130 MORE THAN I SHOULD HAVE PAID... AND THERE'S NO WAY TO GET THE MONEY BACK.

RUN... don't walk... from Turbo Tax. There's a reason that in today's news there was a multi-hundred-million dollar class action law suit they just lost... They are running a racket with products that do not sell themselves... they must trick you into buying their products and then force you (under pain of having to start over from scratch) to keep you from getting a refund.

This is a predatory, parasitical design... preying upon those of us who try to pay our taxes but get so stressed out doing them that we can't stomach the notion of fighting to get our money back they stole.

I never write such reviews... but TurboTax earned it. They are the worst.

After filing last year's taxes through TT, we waited for our return. Months later, no one seemed to know where our refund was. We finally ended up contacting the IRS Taxpayer Advocates after getting the runaround from the IRS and TT for months. We were informed that our return was paid to an account belonging to TurboTax since we had opted to have TT take their fees from our return. We called TT and they claim to not have any idea what we're talking about. We will be calling the IRS back to have them open an investigation, as recommended by the IRS TA we spoke to, and will never be returning to TT again. I have found a news article claiming others have suffered the same. Take your taxes elsewhere or you may never see your return.

I tried filing through Turbo Tax but it wouldn't allow me to file. When trying to submit my return it was just spinning and spinning not allowing me to submit my return. They had took my payment before filing, but it wouldn't allow me to file. So I had to file my return with another company without any problems. So I submitted a request for a refund of my money. They denied me a refund, and stole my money. I'm going to file a petition with small claims court to get my money returned. DONT USE TURBO TAX AS THEY TAKE YOUR MONEY WITHOUT PROVIDING A SERVICE.

The experience with Turbo Tax is great: very easy interface to use and a tax expert is quickly available via the sidebar chat to help out. I found all the Turbo Tax representatives to be super helpful, they reside in Canada and the assisted review has helped (there is a way for the assistant to view your computer screen live as you see them on video live with you).

That being said, DO NOT get Audit Defence from Turbo Tax. You will be prompted to purchase additional Audit Defence "to help you in case you get audited". Sounds like a great service until you realize what the reps are like and how your file will be handled. I've bought Audit Defence twice and both times were a terrible experience (latest experience in May 2023): the only reason I got it a second time was to give it another chance.
First of all, the reps are all really rude from Audit Defence (I spoke to Cameron and Elizabeth). Also, when CRA sends you a Review Letter you're given 30 days to respond: you can request more time from CRA if needed. But just to let you know, Audit Defence will automatically tell you they will not meet your deadline. On top of that, they will tell you they have so many files ahead of yours that they cannot estimate when they will get to your file! Uggh, okay, so as paying customers you don't know if it will take two months or six months for Audit Defence to get to your file and actually help you.
The process is rather ridiculous and their poor customer service attitude makes it even worse. Avoid it. Just submit the documents yourself to CRA or get an accountant to help out for a fee.

Theft

My TurboTax information was stolen and so was 800$. When I called the number on the back of my TurboTax card I was immediately connected to foreigners (Arabs). I've reported the fraud to my local police department and called any and every bank associated with TurboTax and no one has contacted me. I will NEVER use TurboTax again! I want my money back!

Been using turbo for years now all of a sudden they're using this sbtpg LLC and we are getting less of our refunds I will never use turbo again! My refund is $89 short from what I'm supposed to get this is a scam!

All my tax info lost!

I spent a whole day completing my 2022 taxes. Finished it all and even paid a little extra for the site to review for errors or missing info. I later (3 weeks) went to the IRS site for a status on my return only to find out it was never filed! When speaking to the Intuit rep I find out nothing I provided was even saved to resubmit! What!The rep said I must not have hit the final submit button. Huh? I got a thank you for using Intuit and all the "what to expect" crap. So frustrating! Don't trust Intuit!

I have used turbotax for 10+ years, this year has been a disaster. After finding accuracy issues with my return (inability to depreciate an asset and incorrect amounts then being calculated, $200 vs $20,000 write off) and spending 4+ hours speaking with turbo tax reps and a CPA, being persuaded to purchase the desktop version as if this would magically solve the accuracy issue. I was left with a an unusable product (H&R filing services calculated the correct amounts w/o issue), now I am on my 3rd attempt at a refund which your company continues to auto deny for no reason that I or any of the reps can figure out or solve. I am now done using this product and would not recommend using it. If i had no understanding of the tax laws this could have costed me thousands.

HORRIBLE THIEVES

I had two experts look over my tax returns and neither could inform me of the proper way to file. I ended up losing $236 by filing with turbotax. I was reminded of why I stopped using them years ago this year. SMH DO NOT USE THEM!

Met with extreme hostility and sarcasm from tax expert who did not give a $#*! about helping me and clearly was ready to be done for the day. See photos for the majority of our interaction, they speak for themselves. Truly cannot believe the disgustingly low bar Turbo Tax holds for who they employ.

I CHOSE TO DO THE FREE ONLINE TAX ON TURBO THEN WAS CHARGED OVER 270.00 just to file My simple tax return l! Then went through the steps to get my refund for a the package they said I used to be told that they can't give me a refund because I didn't buy the CD and I file online! Never using them again

Turbo tax only has a few specific criteria for refunds. So if you attempt to file and you decide that you want to get it done elsewhere, you do NOT get your money back for their "services" even if your return is rejected. Over $178 for ultimately NOTHING. I recommend getting your taxes done by a CPA or elsewhere because Turbotax's system can be clunky at times and they do not have your best interest in mind.

I was thinking of using TurboTax to file my taxes and went through their steps on the online app. I probably got hit with 5 upsells throughout the process which was pretty disheartening. I accidently paid for a package I didn't want and ended up not using them to file my taxes. Tried to get a refund for the service I didn't use and they hit me with this,
"Dear xxx xxxxx,

We are unable to process the refund for TurboTax Online product Case #xxxxxx because our Satisfaction Guaranteed policy only covers TurboTax CD/Download products. TurboTax Online is designed not to charge the customer until after they choose to file, so it is not covered under the Satisfaction Guarantee.
