THS Alternative
June 8, 2023

An excellent option in the United Kingdom is House Sitters UK, offering a compelling alternative. It is free for hosts to join and costs less than £30 for sitters. Additionally, their customer service surpasses expectations. On the other hand, THS tends to label individuals as trolls if they express dissatisfaction with their reviews, displaying unprofessional conduct. I encourage you to visit the THS forum on Reddit, where people can freely share their opinions about the company without being subjected to moderation.

THE FIRST TIME I USED THE APP, THE GIRL WAS COOL. She stayed for a month. The next time I used the app, I let a couple from Russia and the Ukraine stay and they illegally registered their car to my address. They also ordered a package to my address. They said they ordered by accident but you couldn't have possibly accidentally ordered something in February when you had left here last September. I just received yet another parking ticket, even from them to my address even though they said they moved to Thailand. I reported this to TrustedHousesitter and they left the person who broke the trust on the app after I reported that they illegally used my address. They also trusted the housesitter (who had already proven their untrustworthiness by illegally registering my address as their home address) to work with me directly to resolve the issue. I can never use this app again because I'm supposed to be able to trust people to be in my home and registering your license, vehicles, etc to my home address. This is a serious violation that Trusted Housesitter did not take seriously. They responded with "I know you're frustrated but the sitter said they would take care of it...[so there]". This app should not allow people who cannot get background checks to be on the app. Furthermore, they need to immediately disable app capabilities of anyone who violates the homes they are allowed to sit in.

This scam has you working hard for free, trying to please fastidious rude owners, caring for their poorly trained dogs, with no live app support ever available. This is if you can ever find a sit. The app always takes the pet owners side in any situation.

Read the fine print. You can't have guests, it's on you to deep clean. I thought it would be like Airbnb with great pets. Very disappointed.

Terrible Service
May 15, 2023

I think this a terrible service. Terrible experience both the sitters and customer support with TrustedHousesitter. Sitters were allowed to make LIES about my home and how I take care of my animals. It's not only untrue but extremely hurtful. Who is allowed to make lies up about animal abuse and get away with it. Customer service is poor and people are allowed to post whatever they want so long as it's not racist, sexist, etc.

They refuse to give my membership money back, they charged for all YEAR. I want to cancel my membership but they won't refund money (i had my account not even full month). They refuse to do so, they want to keep all money even if you're not using this site. I will be contacting my bank and I work in field of law, bad luck for you...
Keep in mind no matter what they reply, they never helped me ever.

I had one decent experience and one horrible experience, where my dog ended up getting attacked by the sitter's own dog and had to go to the ER. I complained to Trusted House Sitters and they didn't do anything. It also turned out that this sitter was also homeless and used this platform as a means of living.

The thing people might like about this site is that you only pay an annual membership in exchange for free petting-sitting services which will most likely end up being way cheaper than a pet hotel. The sitters on this site can say they love animals all they want and will care for your animals as if they're their own, but at the end of the day, they get a free stay for their "travels" and taking care of your pet will become second priority. I don't blame them. If I was traveling, I would also prioritize that. The sitter whose dog attacked mine turned out to be actually homeless as well. This sitter did not own a home or rent a place, she said she was just bouncing around places. Had I known this, I would not have allowed her into my home and cared for my dogs who are essentially my children.

From now on, only fully paid professional pet-sitting services will be used from my side.

UNRELIABLE
April 27, 2023

I have recently come back from my trip and found my flat upside down. My cats were miserable: starving and full of poop.
I discovered, through my neighbors, that there were 3 people living in my flat instead of 1.
I complained with trusted housesitters and they refused to give me the details of the pet sitter.
I have been writing them for the last few days with no answer!
This woman and the guys who were with her, are VANDALS and TrustedHousesitters UNRELIABLE and irresponsible.
I filed a criminal case at the police station.

The sitter broke a water pipe and invited a third party into my house to make changes, without asking me.

They wont a)refund me or b)engage with me beyond telling me they will penalize the sitter. Crazy bad, rude customer service.

A scam truly
April 4, 2023

They are a scam. Stay away. I joined and they urged me to pay premium membership to get ease of mind for cancellations and better luck with sitters. When I relied on them to get a sitter who cancelled on the day of my trip, I had to find a super last minute and expensive sitter to cover my 4 animals at home. Then they started all sorts of nasty insurance tactics to not pay. I am still fighting after a month. Stay away folks. Worst support ever.

Strange concept
March 25, 2023

The whole general concept is a bit strange. People expect others to do work for them for free? If you're traveling it seems to be worthwhile but details should be discussed throughly before arrangement. Caring for an animal/animals is a serious commitment and work. That in itself should be compensated. If it is not compensated the home owner should not expect you to have the house fully cleaned or complete other chores without compensation? Obviously clean up after yourself and keep the house tidy...but a homeowner complaining that clean sheets were not fully dryed and put back on bed is ridiculous. Are people with nice residences totally oblivious to how the world works? You do a job you get paid. You make an arrangement like pet care for free board great but to expect more than that is beyond ridiculous. And if you expect the sitter to go there and back without compensation and don't provide a vehicle I don't even know what kind of entitled world you are living in.

I used this service to provide care for my 4 dogs while on vacation. The so called trusted sitters were completely unwilling to deal with a temporary issue with one of the dogs and forced my return home cutting my vacation a week short. The sitters left my back door open and a window on the first floor making my home easily accessible to any burglar. They left a filthy dirty mop bucket and dog poop on the floor not cleaned up before they left. They stole some personal property of mine and were working in outside employment while they were supposed to be taking care of my dogs. This lack of care led to one of my dogs becoming trapped and injured because he was left loose instead of caged as per instructions. I had to euthanize him the day after my return from shortened vacation. I addressed each and every one of these issues with this site and they basically refused to acknowledge any wrongdoing on the sitters part (probably to hide from any liability) and all I got in return was a BS apology. They refused to suspend or remove these sitters or even acknowledge that they stole my property. Needless to say I am disgusted with the performance of this site and it led to the death of my dog and buyer beware these sitters are still on there and could be the ones you choose next

If you're looking for a *pet sitter*, just go straight to rover!
I joined Trusted House Sitters to find a reliable sitter for my pet and home whilst I'm away. They advertise as a cheap alternative to pet sitters in exchange for a home for applicants. This part is true - the applicants I received, however, are clearly more interested in a cheap place to stay over looking after your pets.
I never used their services, and after feeling falsely advertised to, lost $200 I should have just spent on an actual pet sitter.

I want to love it
January 24, 2023

The app itself is pretty glitchy but it's the customer service that really blows. I have used this multiple times with no issue, but the most recent time I had an issue with the sitter and THS is unwilling to reciting the situation. She left before the sit was over forcing me to take time out of my vacation to arrange (and pay) for somebody else to fill in. When I got back I found 5 dog poops throughout the house that hadn't been found/cleaned up accompanied by warped floorboards where pee had been. If it wasn't for the marijuana on the bathroom counter and open window (on a 28 degree day) I would have thought she had never shown up at all. The concept is great and I want yo love it, but given the lack of accountability, I will not be renewing my subscription.

I joined Trusted HouseSitters just over a year ago and had wonderful experiences from four different sits. Upon returning from my last sit (6 months long), I learned of a policy change that was implemented. Once pet owners receive 5 applications, the sit profile goes into "reviewing" status and sitters can no longer apply. This substantially reduces the number of sits available for sitters to choose. We are paying the same amount of money for a fraction of the sits available. In addition, pet owners and sitters are no longer getting the "best fit". Instead, the pet owners are simply receiving applications from those who were the quickest to reply. It has become a race rather than a pairing of the best fit, and not all of us sitters can stare at our phone all day to try to grab a sit before it is no longer available. THS has received a substantial amount of complaints from loyal sitters on their Community Forum. They simply do not care. It was great while it lasted for a year, however, I can no longer recommend THS.

Despicable
December 18, 2022

My experience with this platform has been deplorable: over a number of months, I have witnessed a consistant lack of transparency, refusal of assessing the documentation provided in support of serious issues reported, and overall lack of any factual help. The platform also allows the publication and spread of false and defamatory content.

I recommend Trusted House Sitters to anyone that will listen. It comes up organically all the time. I don't think this service is for everyone, but I think it's for most. Sure, a boarder has some serious value and so do Bed & Breakfasts, but so does combining the both. This service has seriously changed our lives.

As is true for any of these P2P sites, if everything works, it's great.

That was my thought upon coming home and finding my dog safe. I was so relieved I wrote a 5 star review for the house sitter (despite some earlier issues).

With that said, I found substantial damage in my house. I contacted Trusted House Sitters to see if I could change the review + to file a claim. (Something supposedly that I could do as I paid for the premium membership.) After a day, I got a message saying I could NOT change the review (why?) and that provided no help with the claim. I've tried to call 3 times and have been hung up on each time (after a lengthy wait). I've contacted them 4 more times (including through chat, which only provides chatbot links to the website which...tell me to contact them.)

The role (and the reason I paid nearly $300 for this...) of a site is to interact with the members and solve these problems. But Trusted House Sitters does none of this. I would have been as well off posting a "want to stay in my house for free ;)" ad on Craigslist. Better, really, because at least that wouldn't have cost me nearly $300.

EDIT: I contacted Trusted House Sitters (after something like 7 phone calls) and was told that they would NOT actually cover the damage done to my house (even though it was caused by the sitter and I am a premium member to which they heavily advertise that they WILL cover any damage to the house). They also would not ammend reviews or in any other way deal with the damage caused. (Even if it's only saying, "beware of this sitter".) DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE. You honestly would be better off hiring a stranger on Craigslist as it would be free...and you could put the extra $300 towards the cost of repairs.

Do not trust TrustedHouseSitter!
October 20, 2022

Think twice before signing up with and using this service! THS was recommended to me by a client and I signed up, interviewed a sitter, arranged a meeting with her and her dog the night before our departure, and left hoping for the best. It is an ongoing nightmare. The sitter abandoned our 2 dogs for 42+ hours, without AC (the AC had gone out) in the desert, with days still reaching well above 100, before friends rescued them while we were traveling overseas. She lied when I reached out to ask her if everything was ok as I had started to worry about her lack of communication. We had to hire a boarder to take them for the remainder of our vacation and hoped that she would not cause further harm when we asked her to collect her things and leave our home. When we returned we were overwhelmed by the stench of urine and heat. We spent our first night back in a hotel. A large wool area rug was ruined by urine, baseboards were chewed by her small dog, which she brought with our permission, when she promised she was housebroken. Other minor things were also damaged by her dog. We also had to have our AC repairman come check our unit because she cranked the temperature down very low. I had to start a case with THS following their guidelines. First I had to try to resolve the issue with the sitter who remains unresponsive, and also remains a listed sitter on the site! Then I had to try to use my own homeowner's insurance policy, which was denied. This, according to THS, after supplying proof of denial, will allow them to activate the coverage they promise the homeowners when you pay extra for Standard or Premium Pet Parent membership. This is a scam! Without even receiving my actual documentation, in an email exchange with the company, I was denied. This is what they wrote: "I am sorry that I told you initially that you may be eligible to make a claim but I am sorry I was not aware at that time that you are not eligible to claim our home and content protection if damages were caused by the sitter's pet." Nowhere in their Home and Contents Protection Terms and Conditions does it make such a statement. In fact if you read the policy you will come away with the opposite impression. THS will not back you up even if you follow all the rules! Caveat Emptor!
