Great idea and service, mediocre execution

The idea itself is great, and it does work, but their execution is so-so, and it's very clear from the Commmnity Forum that their development team is either severely understaffed, overwhelmed, or mildly incompetent.

Trivial bugs like all times showing in GMT, regardless of the timezone, have been left unfixed for MONTHS. None of the bugs I've reported have ever been fixed, even when I provided the code to fix them.

The reviewing system isn't blind like on Airbnb (where the host and the guest can't see each other's review until they BOTH post it). Rather, as soon as one party posts the review, the other can see it. This leads to artificially inflated reviews, because neither party wants to leave a negative review, for fear of retaliation with a negative review for themselves. So you have to read between the lines to figure out the problems with a sit/home or with a sitter.

The community has been asking since Feb 2021 (if not earlier) for this review policy to be fixed (i. E. made like Airbnb's), but THS has refused without any explanation, despite the change being rather trivial.

Unfortunately there's no good competition (except for the AU/NZ markets), so all new users flock to THS, which has little incentive to fix their issues.

Great website/concept until I got DEPORTED for using it. US immigration, even though I was on my way to Canada, consider it a form of employment. I tried telling them it's an unpaid exchange, but US immigration didn't want to hear it.

TrustedHousesitters refuses to issue a statement informing sitters they, too, risk being deported from the USA if they're found to be travelling on the app. The TrustedHousesitters website says members are fine to travel on a tourist visa because TrustedHousesitters "don't regard house sitting as work". And, yet, here we are...

I am having just the worst experience ever. We have the membership that allows us to host sitters as well as to sit ourselves too. We had a sitter over during Memorial Day weekend and she was great. My husband provided a housesit stay for a week not long ago and it was also great.

On the other hand... I have a trip that starts today and I had a confirmed sitter with "great reviews". I confirmed with her and she ALWAYS took her sweet time to reply but hey, people are busy, right? Well, that until she started to completely ghost me - three days to the start of the sit.

Concerned that something had happened to her, I decided to call her the last night - to see if she was okay and still coming over. She rejected three of my calls. Then she suddenly called me back - I suspect "by accident" since the phone rang once and she quickly dropped the call. Knowing that she can obviously saw my calls I called her once again. She picked up the call and said "hi". I said hi back and asked her if we were still on for the sit. She hung up on me. No kidding. Absolutely disrespectful. I immediately tried to call the phone number provided ------- WHY DO YOU HAVE A PHONE NUMBER LISTED ON YOUR WEBSITE THAT NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES YOU TRY TO CALL NOBODY EVER ANSWERS? The automated message tells you to go to the website. When you do, you try to "chat" with someone but it is a bot. Then I emailed them. Got one general email reply. No one has resolved the issue. No one has told me what the consequences will be for this girl. I am not allowed to leave a review...

This is truly disappointing and from here I am going straight to Better Business Bureau since the phone number on the website is a scam.

Homeowner's may use cameras to film you

This site allows homeowners to use cameras to film you that are not required to be disclosed. It is "encouraged" but a quick review of it's forum will uncover sitters arriving to find out they are being tape recorded. Why would I let someone video me, what is going to happen to the video? Scary. Lots of complaints of sitters not being tidy is also on the forum. Even better the folks getting 5 star ratings are making dinner for the home owners to have when they arrive home... seriously! That is not in the ads.

Stay Away! Highly Unethical Company.

I wrote a review below about an incident with a racist, abusive host and the way that it was handled by THS. THS has continued to insist that this is false. Every single word in that review is true. In fact, here is the email I just wrote to THS when I saw they tried to get my review removed:

"Every single part of this review is true and I will continue to repost. I have an eye-witness account of each item mentioned and this witness happens to be a host on your site. I will provide that witness and their number to TrustPilot and to anybody else who asks. In fact, although you were too lazy and unethical to do your due diligence and call the witness provided, several of the people who booked me to housesit have a bit more humanity and did indeed call that witness. When they realized that THS was without a doubt on the wrong side of this issue, they followed me to another site and have booked me for the days originally agreed to. Because of your negligence, my 1600 followers on LinkedIn know what THS is all about (not in a good way) and thousands of people have seen my review scattered over various review sites. Next time, I recommend making a 5-minute call instead of going to war. You've done your company a great disservice."

There appears to be a pattern of THS making no attempt to investigate matters and bans anybody that may speak up. After I wrote my review, they suspended my account (still waiting on my refund but will not hold my breath). Not once have they called me nor have they called the witness I provided. This is a highly unethical company and they will not be there for you should a problem arise.

When things go smoothly, TrustedHouseSitters is a brilliant application. When they don't, THS offers absolutely no support. I had an issue with a host who not only went on a racist tirade while showing me around the place, but continually surveilled her house and texted me each any every time somebody walked by her house, accusing me of having strangers over when I did no such thing. This owner was absolutely insane and made my life a living hell. She left a negative review on my profile that had absolutely no basis in reality. TrustedHouseSitters has done nothing to rectify this or support me whatsoever. Nobody ever picks up the phone and emails are rarely answered. When they are answered, they contain stock verbiage that doesn't address the issue at hand. Additionally, the removed the part of my review response discussing the racist tirade on the part of the host. This shows where their priorities are. I have a first-hand witness to everything that went on and still THS does nothing.

This site works well when Housesitters show up. But there is no guarantee and we have had several last-minute cancellations. This is really stressful when you have animals and a planned trip. Trustedhousesitters.com does not allow you to leave a review for a House Sitter that cancels. I think they should allow reviews in these cases so homeowners are aware.

I came home from a stressful trip to find a (what I presume) homeless young couple in my house. All of their belongings were in my living room, as were they. The place was filthy. They ate ALL of my food. They ruined my nightstand and stopped up my toilet. My cat was totally freaked out. All in, their three day visit cost me $700 and I've yet to see any compensation from Trusted Housesitters. They won't even refund my membership even after I told them I had to pay for an Uber to get these two off of my property with all of their $#*!.

This is a scam

They suck you in saying you will get house and pet sitting opportunities but we applied for over 25 opportunities and got one in a year. And we had to pay for this. Don't be scammed as I did. Then after I canceled, they billed my credit card anyway.

The NERVE of these rich people to list their houses on here and not pay people... ludicrous. We signed up because we thought it would be good to stay in some people's nice homes with some fun animals, but it is ALWAYS way more work than you expect and literally NEVER worth it unless it's a super nice house with like one cat. I can't believe this website even exists. In what world is this ethical at all?

Some good some bad

Some good some bad.
Their customer service is the worst ever. I've been on the site for 10 years and had some wonderful people come and stay with my dogs. There were two that were not so great. One guy managed to let my little dog out of the house and shop owner on a busy street found him. Recently my sitter put an 11-year-old Chihuahua in a bicycle basket without being tied down and she jumped out and fractured two ribs. Since I have been a member of the site for 10 years they have just automatically renewed my membership and never told me that I could upgrade that would include accident insurance. So far the vet cost me $400 and this is just day one! Be very careful with who you pick. Some people are in it for the vacation and don't have that much experience with dogs. In this case I cut my visit with my son daughter-in-law a new little grandson short by a day to get home to my poor little girl doggy

After two smooth pet sits I had a challenging sit in February in Mallorca, but the house and pet owner turned out to be trying control me in an unlegal way invading my privacy (4 webcams on the premise - filming by a boyfriend while I was away and had not washed the dishes).
Moreover she falsely complained to the platform that I had invited a woman into the house for living there and that I had left the house "upside down", damaged things and not tidied plus shot videos without asking her.
She also violated the ths.com rules by blocking me from communication her on the day of my departure:
I refuted her claims with evidence but the website "Conflict resolver" did not look at my evidence (i. E. a video I had uploaded password protected with the house owner on it feeding the pets was not clicked by them).
THS: com did not forward the specific accusations or photos to me - this way it is practically impossible to answer them.
They blocked me from using the site any more and refuse to refund me for the seven months that I paid for but cannot use the service.
THS.com is fine if all is running smooth. But beware if you are a sitter with a conflict. You are the one who is kicked. It's about their money. They have a scarcity of sitting opportunities but an abundance of sitters. And they behave illegally by not refunding.
The only place where I found the postal address is on their "Privacy" page.
And that is where I will send the invoice to for refunding me.

Before signing up as someone needing a pet sitter, their website lead me to think that after paying the extortionate £100 joining fee and putting my advert up I would have droves of offers from house sitters. Not so. I didn't have 1 interested party.
But because I put a date on my advert I cant have a refund. How am I supposed to know if the service is right for me if I don't put dates on my listing.
I don't think Ive ever been so ripped off in my life. They've literally stolen £100 from me.
If you are looking for a pet sitter I would say avoid this site and try to find someone local. At least you know you will get something in return for your money. This company has stolen £100 from me. Ive logged a complaint with trading standards.

I never got my money back. Have never had any sits (despite trying very hard to get one). They should pay you back as you don't get what you pay for. My advice; research it first thoroughly, then be prepared to gamble. (You might be lucky getting a sit). I wasn't.

Think twice!

My husband and I had to leave our house for three months because of our work.
We decided to use Trustedhouesitter.com as we thought it would be the best option for our pets and limit their stress while we are away.
Well, it was the most stressful experience for us!
The couple who stayed at our house lacked communication and left our house messy and dirty. I came back from a 20+ hour flight to find my house upside down, sink full of dishes, stoves, couch, and counter cover with dust and crumbles of food. They threw away my bedsheets and allowed my dog to chew on furniture, the floor was covered with cat litter, and the list goes on...
It is even more frustrating to ensure that the house was professionally clean before they arrived to offer them the best stay we could.

Additionally, they refused to pay the 700 $ bills of water, electricity, and internet they used during their housesitting and even claimed that we should keep in mind that they took care of our house and pet for free.

It's been a month since we are still trying to solve the situation with the website, but no action has been taken. We submit to their customer service all the proof, including screenshots, videos, and pictures from our house.

The couple's profile is still on, and they are probably already housesitting someone else home (I hope they won't have the same experience as us!)
We didn't receive any sort of commercial gesture or compensation, even though our membership is supposed to include some insurance. It's also been a month since we have been trying to reappropriate our own house, and it still doesn't feel like home again.

If you are thinking about using this website, think twice! In the end, you will never really know these persons or what's happening in your house while you are away, plus you will also not find any support from the website if something goes wrong!
