The company has garnered significant criticism for its customer service, with many customers expressing frustration over the lack of responsive support and difficulties in obtaining refunds. Common complaints include billing issues, inadequate communication, and a perceived lack of accountability for damages caused by sitters. While some users reported positive experiences with sitters, the overall sentiment reflects a sense of disappointment and mistrust, particularly among sitters who feel exploited by the fee structure. The company appears to prioritize marketing efforts over customer satisfaction, leading to a growing perception of unprofessionalism and dissatisfaction among users.

Today I was informed that TH planned to charge me for another year of "service." Obviously, I have had none for the past 9 months. It was an impossibility. Every other business who has had clients who no longer could use their service during covid actually froze their account. Indeed, most countries will not even allow US citizens to travel to theirs. To tell me they are automatically charging me for another year is beyond imagination. I would certainly suggest that anyone considering ever using TH take into account what they will do if there is a national emergency. CDC says we can easily plan for this to continue through 2021. Am I supposed to gratuitously give TH over $100 for nothing? Stay away from this site. Get in touch with me if you ever need a great, trustworthy couple to houses it for you, for free. (Not me but someone I have used for years.)
We have used Trusted Housesitters many times, and they never disappoint us. We have two cats and two dogs, who need medications and dedicated care (the dogs are elderly), and the housesitters have been wonderful and attentive to our pets. Plus, having them in our own home keeps our pets happier (no boarding facilities!).
We will use Trusted Housesitters whenever we cannot take our pets with us - they are great!
We've had about 10 Trusted Housesitters so far and love the concept. Most worked out wonderfully and several were absolutely outstanding! I'll agree that you must do your homework before choosing your final pick but if you do communicate with them prior and do a type of interview, etc. I think you'll be very pleased. There definitely are some fabulous animal lovers out there who are responsible, adventurous, honest, kind and available.
I have been members of Trusted House Sitters for several years and have had overwhelmingly good experiences. I always get many applicants for sits and get to choose among really good people who have lots of previous sit reviews. I have recommended THS to many people both to find sitters and to become sitters. It provides a win win situation for pet sitting and pet owners. Highly recommend.
I have found some really great pet sitters on this site. They have also been very flexible for me as well. I got stuck in Africa for 6 months (was supposed to be 1 month) during the Covid lockdown and my sitters were more than happy to stay for 5 months and I even found another sitter for the last month with no problem at all. Very happy with the quality of people on this site!
We have been members of TrustedHouseSitters for over a year now. Our experience has been great. It's been an opportunity to explore different parts of California and pet cats while staying in people's homes. What's not to like?
We are really happy that we joined this organization and look forward to many years ahead of happy stress free traveling.
We've used TrustedHouseSitters.com for several years now. With only one exception, (the sitter was not great) we've had enormous success with having great sitters who are above and beyond when it comes to all that needs doing on our farm with cats and in other times, dogs too. The people are respectful, capable and ready to do all things wonderfully and they have! We've had unusual circumstances and the folks have been ready and able to meet anything and any challenges that have come along. All in all we will continue to use them and be grateful for those kind-hearted animal loving folks who show up for us. This is an amazing resource and site for anxious travelers. I highly recommend it. You do have to do your due diligence, you must ask the right questions, give accurate information, and follow through on references, anything that you would do in any other setting where you are required to trust, hire, et cetera. It is a wonderful win win exchange situation for pet/home owners and travelers alive.
Trusted Housesitters is a wonderful network of animal loving people. I have utilized TH for multiple trips, not once leaving with apprehension regarding the wellbeing of my dogs. The platform is easy to navigate. I have enjoyed connecting with others, including couples trekking across the globe! This is one service that comes with my full recommendation; two of my neighbors signed up at my urging!
I look forward to being able to try the other end of TH, being the pet sitter for someone. What a great way to travel and have fur babies close!
I've just used Trusted Housesitters for the first time and was so happy with how it all went. Being able to go away knowing that my dogs were being well looked after in his home gave me complete peace of mind. I will definitely use this service again.
We joined Trusted Housesitter a year ago. We've enjoyed three pet sits this year. That number would have been higher had it not been for the Pandemic. I am about to renew our membership to both petsit for others and have others pet sit for us. The price ($100 to $150 last year, depending on what you need) is made up quickly in ssaved hotel bills and petsitting payments. I highly recommend TH.
This is a great service for pet owners who love to travel. We had used this twice and each time we had amazing people who took great care of our pets while we were gone. It was easy to place an add and get multiple applications. The only challenge is who to choose. Profile and reviews are very helpful. I found this site has best pool of sitters. The phone app is big plus.
You can be lucky, which we were 2x. Great location, great home owners, nice pets, clean house. Perfect!
But you can also be extremely unlucky, which we were 3x. The problem is that previous housesitters hardly ever leave a negative comment, because they want to get other (better) housesits in the future. You almost only find the good experiences with 4-5 star ratings. If a house was not really that clean or a dog not just "a bit spoiled" but in reality a 24h attention demanding completely untrained dog, that is hardly ever mentioned. The worst however is, that a housesitter has no position of anything if he / she is let down by the home owner. One appointment was canceled after confirmation just because the home owner found a veterinarian after us... The other "ordered" us to leave, just because someone from the family learnt about "mother's idea of housesitting" and did not like the idea. This platform does not allow previous housesitters to contact each other - and I think that this is for a reason. In that case people would be free to share their real experience. I can only recommend for housesitters to very carefully check beforehand in detail about what they are getting themselves into. We were very lucky twice and enjoyed housesitting a lot. But the last experiences killed that joy completely and we are not housesitting again.
I found really great house & pet sitters through Trusted Housesitters. It was a very satisfactory experience!
After years of leaning heavily on friends and family, we finally tried TrustedHouseSitters this year -- and it's been beyond wonderful! I like the way the system works, and who shows up interested in the site, how the interviewing and decision process is made so easy and helpful. We've had two sitters and they've both been truly delightful, responsible, competent, trustworthy people and provided excellent care for our cats, our house, our mail, our peace of mind. The hard part is making that decision, and turning some other highly qualified really great and interesting looking people away. That said, their website isn't the easiest to navigate, the profile takes some work (as it should), but it eventually comes together. It's changed our approach to traveling.
I have used Trusted Housesitters many times and absolutely love it. No money changes hands. People come care for your pets, plants, livestock, home, etc and they get to visit a new area with no hotel fees. I have people in my apartment from all over the world. My cats are well cared for and my home is spotless when I return! Both sitters and homeowners are background checked. I have only sat once for a family. They had two dogs, two cats, chickens, plants and a pool I needed to do some simple maintenance. I have a friend who Housesat at a beautiful home on the Spanish Riviera! As a sitter, you choose what types of animals you are willing to take care of. As a homeowner, I review each applicant's past reviews and find out why they want to visit my area. We talk on the phone or through online video and get to know one another. A Welcome Guide seen only by your confirmed sitter provides all the necessary instructions and helpful tips about my pets, my home and things to do in the area. Give it a try, you won't regret it!
Trusted Housesitters is a great organization. We've been super pleased with the sitters we've had (at least 7 now) and I tell everyone I know about it. It's so relaxing to know we'll be returning after an absence to a clean house, happy pet, and cared-for garden. We were very careful when vetting the profiles and subsequent exchanges with sitters, and that has worked well for us.
This service vets it's members well. If you want to visit places, but don't want to or can't pay motel prices, check out where you can stay for free in exchange for caring for house/yard/pets. I have been a sitter and also used sitters from this service and I totally recommend it. My sitters have been great and I've gotten to sit in the states and overseas, too!
Access to homeowners around the world looking to get away who need their pets cared for. Trustedhousesitters is a well structured website that can really open your world
I heard about this company from my friend who works from her laptop and was traveling the world living in peoples homes taking care of their pets for free she wasn't getting paid and the people didn't have to pay so everybody wins before anything even happens!
We take an annual trip back east for about three weeks every summer and our house needs serious TLC we have many pets and a large property. I put our ad up at 8 o'clock pm one night and the next morning I had 14 people interested! It was a great relief to know people are interested to stay in our home and allow us to take the trip and not need to worry about our home and pets! I already trusted Trusted House Sitter because of my friend and her wonderful experiences and now after using the service myself I'm not only trust it but I am considering how we would also travel and BE Trusted House Sitter‘s!
What a great way for worlds to come together and people to meet and ultimately realize we're all here to be safe and happy and healthy! What a great idea thank you Trusted House Sitter‘s!
There are definite pros and cons to this site. I've been using it for 2 years and it does come down to the people that you choose, mostly.
Pros: You don't have to pay for the sitters and the yearly fee is reasonable. You can find some amazing, dedicated, responsible people so you don't have to bother family or neighbors. If you have trouble finding a sitter, customer support is very attentive and willing to help to make sure you get someone. I've always had applicants. This is a lot cheaper and affordable than other sites.
Cons: Some sitters fishing for money from you even though they aren't supposed to.
I plan my trips well in advance and I have had quite a few sitters cancel after committing. Customer support is not helpful in these situations. There are no consequences for sitters quiting after a commitment and no review or rating or score on a sitters profile showing if they have canceled on people previously. I want to see that option! When I mention this to customer support, they blow me off. That score would go into my decision because the stress created is horrible when the sitters cancel last minute and you've had everything planned already for 5 months. Of you can't commit to a date 5 months in the future, don't apply for the sit.
They used to have the option to select sitters that have had background checks but they removed that option. Now they only verify documents and emails. I want the option for the background checks.
Otherwise it is up to you to diligently review the applicants, talk to them, look at their references and reviews. I had a couple bad sitters (one endangered my dog and had to go to the vet, the sitter offered to pay for the visit as well as things she broke in the home but she never did) but mostly good sitters. Enough to make it worth it to continue with the membership.
Answer: Fees are an annual membership for both homeowner and pet sitters (approx $120). With thousands of members, I've not had any problem finding a sitter.
Answer: Hi Jim, when house sitting it is expected that you will take care of your own cooking, etc. You will have full use of the homeowners kitchen facilities. We hope this helps. TrustedTeam
Answer: Yes. It depends on where you live but this couple is beyond question the best and dependable and honest. Debbie and Wil Wilburn. [email protected] Please give my name: Fluffy's mom
Answer: Your accommodations are free. You still have to get there on your own. Since accommodations are often the biggest expense of a trip, it is a great deal. Use code RAF270183 to get 25% off you annual membership fee.
Answer: Hi Caroline, Thank you for your question, forgive my delayed reply. If you haven't already contacted the Membership Services Team (https://support.trustedhousesitters.com/hc/en-gb) I would encourage you to do so and they will help you to get this resolved. Kind Regards, The TrustedHousesitters Team
Answer: Hi Sada, You'll be able to read reviews of the sitters on their profiles. If there isn't anything showing, then this indicates that the sitter doesn't have any reviews just yet. If there is something else that we can do to help, please do get in touch with Membership Services, and we'll be more than happy to speak with you further. Kind regards, The TrustedHousesitters Team
