My entire flight to Jamaica was canceled by AA, abruptly due to shortage. We were in the car on the way to the airport as our flight was a 2am chk in for international. We quickly bought a SW ticket to get to our destination and tried AA and no one would answer. I filed a claim with TRIPMATE and they have NO phone number- and declined it as my vacation started on 6-25 (at 2am) but the flight was canceled at 1150pm on 6-24. They said it wasn't the start of my vacation!
I did an appeal and they said the same thing. How is the rule to arrive 2 hours before on international, and me on my way to the airport for the flight to be canceled not an interruption of my vacation?
Please do yourself a FAVOR DO NOT USE THEM! Use a reputable credit card that offers protection. This is a scam and I'm filing suit with the BBB!

Run dont walk away SCAM
October 24, 2021

Booked a flight to Pittsburg with bookbyfare, took trip mate insurance just in case something happened and it did the kitten I was flying down for wasn't available anymore. Tried contacting them of course no one answers phone. Filled out all paperwork sent it UPS. And nothing, I am out over 400.00. Stay away from bookbyfare nice when your booking but rude when you have a problem. On paperwork it said agent could fill it out for you too, but they refused my requests

When you are in a foreign country and your flight gets cancelled it can be really stressful. When you finally get home and you try to recoup the extra money you spent from Tripmate it get's worse. There is no email address on their site to contact them. The only way to get info is to call and it's very hard to get a person to talk to. It took several calls and pushing different buttons just to luckily get a person on the phone. It get's even worse when they send you checks that equal around 400 dollars but the documentation you sent them clearly shows it was 762.08. Now I have to try and contact them again to try and get the money they owe me. I will never buy travel insurance from tripmate again!

Real Scammers, Warning
November 22, 2020

They are here to rip you off, read reviews before purchasing insurance from these people, they get the insurance and when it comes to flight they do all they can, not to pay, they have all the excuses possible not to pay you what they have promised to, they are terrible, avoid them, I wish I had read the reviews first, but I did not, I paid 250$ for insurance on a flight 1000$, and I had contacted them way in advance before they flight and explained the situation and their untrained staff said all is good, just wait and after the flight date submit a claim and you can guess the results.

Trip Insurance Scam?
August 8, 2020

We booked a 21 day trip through Vantage Worldwide Travel - Aegean Treasures 2020 with both the 3 day pre (Sophia, Bulgaria) and 3 day (Travina, Albania, Kosovo) post trip excursions in January 2019. The trip was scheduled for May 1 to May 21,2020. The total cost of the trip was $16,490 less a $1,826 travel credit - net cost $14,664.

Along with the booking we purchased the Trip Mate, Inc. CANCEL FOR ANY REASON TRIP INSURANCE through Vantage World Travel at Vantage's recommendation. We took the more expensive CANCEL FOR ANY REASON TRIP INSURANCE ($1,798) with the understanding that should my wife's cancer treatment regimen or health conditions change, we would get a refund of our fares. My wife's health conditions and treatment regimen did indeed change in early February 2020. As of early March 2020 she is once again on bi-weekly intravenous chemotherapy treatments.

After hearing her news, and before the Covid-19 Pandemic was announced, we decided it would be best to cancel the trip. We started the claims process on March 11,2020, the necessary documentation, including Doctors letters, were received by Trip Mate, Inc on or before March 23,2020. The claim was approved by Trip Mate, Inc. on May 12,2020 and is shown in the Claim Status page as - "payment in process - refer to payments tab". There is nothing under the payment tab on the website.

After five (5) phone calls to customer service, a letter to the CEO's of both Vantage and Trip Mate, as of August 8,2020, we have received nothing but a run-around from Trip Mate, Inc. It is clear that the customer service representatives have been given a script with responses they can use to deflect customer's inquiries. The excuses provided are that Trip Mate, Inc. is paying all the small claims first and since ours is a large claim it is still in process (?); that Vantage Worldwide Travel had not yet delivered the funds to pay this claim to Trip Mate, Inc (What about insurance company reserves?); that I would need to talk to a supervisor but they are all in a meeting and that I would get a call within 24-48 hours from a supervisor; that the claim payment is in accounting and being processed as we speak (?); that if I send an email to a supervisor (yesterday) I would get an email response when she had time - I did get an automated "no-reply email" saying that I would get an email within the next 30 days. Another deflection via automated email!

We suspect that Trip Mate, Inc. will never issue a payment to us. That they will keep the premium payment and the $10,783.50 that they owe us. Is this fraud?!?! Theft?!?!. In my mind's eye, they owe us a total of $12,591.50 (the $10,783.50 plus the premium of $1,798). Someone/some agency needs to investigate this company for fraud!

I must admit that the Customer Service Representatives are very good at what they do - reading from a script, faking a 2-5 minute discussion with a supervisor and doing their best to deflect customers inquiries. One rep admitted she had worked there for 11 years - she was the "best" - really!

After reading reviews on various sites I realize that Trip Mate, Inc. must be (as one review said) a Phantom Organization. I believe they have no intention of resolving this claim by issuing check(s) to us.

After this experience, we will never again book a trip with Vantage Worldwide Travel and will never consider insuring any trip through Trip Mate, Inc.

The one star rating is so that my review would be posted.

My wife and I booked a 10-day Viking River Cruise to Germany (7-days, plus 3 days of added excursions). Because of COVID-19 infections in the U.S., the German government has blocked entry of "non-essential travelers" from the U.S. Viking has reimbursed about 70% of what we paid, and offered a voucher that would cover part of the cost of a future trip. That may be useful to some travelers, but isn't practical for older people when the virus is still out there. We had purchased TripMate Travel Insurance with a "Cancel for Any Reason" clause. TripMate has denied our claim, and denied the appeal we filed. They say it's not covered under their policy. If we can't travel because the destination country won't let us in, isn't that a prima facia valid reason? TripMate has rigged their insurance to keep valid reasons for trip cancellation from being paid. Viking has treated us well, but I would not recommend buying TripMate insurance under any circumstances.

Unforgivable
June 17, 2020

This company is the antithesis of anything you would ever want to involve yourself with as a consumer. The amount of time that I wasted jumping through hoops for them is comical. I wish I could go back in time and tell the past me that everything I was doing was just pissing in the wind. My issues with this company are innumerable. They lie about the "service" they provide. They are impossible to get a hold of by any other way than e-mail. They will often respond with canned answers that were just copy and pasted from a script but in the end, after all the e-mails and completed placebo paperwork, they are just a company of smug frauds. I will let everyone I come in contact with know about Trip Mate. I will review the company on every possible web-site and forum and I pray to all the gods that they are the defendant in a class action lawsuit. I sincerely hope that the CEO of this company, Brad Finkle, knows that he is a shill and that Trip Mate is trash.

It is a crime that Trip Mate will not refund for canceled trips due to COVID19. Listed under the General Exclusions as reasons why "benefits are not payable for any loss due to, arising or resulting from" is a list of 21 items not covered. PANDEMIC is not one of them.

With the pandemic warnings and actions taken by the World Health Organization, Homeland Security, United Airlines, AAA (who canceled the tour), and a 14-day quarantine when arriving in Hawaii how am I expected to take this trip? In addition, I am over 60 years of age and am immunosuppressed. So, I am supposed to risk my life to go on a trip to Hawaii which officials are advising me not to take. I guess it is unreasonable to expect to receive the services that I paid or a refund when I do not receive those services based on the travel insurance policy I purchased from Trip Mate.

TRIP MATE - Have you been hiding under a rock? Has your CEO been watching or reading the news? Have you looked outside your corporate offices and seen the results of quarantining from this disease? Do you realize that you are taking advantage of people during a pandemic for your bottom line in profits? Do you expect that people will use your company in the future and/or lie down and take this crap from Trip Mate?

TRIP MATE - I am not interested in your canned messages. I have already asked to speak with a supervisor on two occasions. The last so-called customer service representative I spoke to on 4/17/2020 hung up on me after I requested to speak to a supervisor.

I will find every forum to express my outrage for Trip Mate in order to warn the public about the corruption taking place at Trip Mate.

Coronavirus
April 10, 2020

Even though you may have booked your flight ahead of time and when things started shutting down from the Coronavirus inflight started to being changed and rerouted in trying to contact anybody to work things out your time lapse because you couldn't get answers from the airline because the virus had them not answering phones you buy your insurance through this company and they back out saying that viruses are not part of the plan even though the virus stopped anybody from answering the phone so you could work things out I wouldn't try and fly with these guys or even use this insurance company if somebody paid me to and then paid me on top of it for doing it.

SCAM
October 10, 2019

When buying airplane tickets DO NOT get insurance through TripMate Travel Insurance. Not only they make you wait 30 days, then they come up with the stupidest excuse not to give you your money back. A hurricane category 4 was supposed to hit the place where we were going on vacation, but because last minute it didn't happen then they won't give us a refund? How were we supposed to know where it was going or how strong it was going to be? Ridiculous! - beyond frustrated

Stay away -
August 8, 2019

I bought my tickets for vacation in europe from cheapoair and the agent called me back, advising me to buy the insurance to take care of any unforseen situation. I had to cancel my trip due to unavoidable work reasons. Every single insurance company paid whatever was due except Trip Mate. Trip Mate sends me a letter denying the claim stating that it was a reason not covered. I looked at the reasons which are worthy of a refund and you know what - they are the reasons which makes it a newsworthy reason - Like hijacking, Terrorist incident, death(a very good reason), Military emergency duty etc. Honestly, it is impossible to make the criteria for the refund. Its a scam... Only one advise- Stay away from TripMate. Wish they get closed.

I purchased Trip Cancellation Coverage from Trip Mate travel insurance through CheapOair back in June of 2018. Our trip was cancelled. I submitted a claim to Trip Mate. I received a letter addressed to another person rejecting his claim. When I was finally able to contacted them they said it was a mistake, but my claim was denied. I filed an appeal, and to date I have only received emails (when I inquire when I'll hear from them) stating they are backlogged and will get to it when they can. They have timelines in their policy for their response time and they have broken every one of them by months. Stay away from Trip Mate, their insurance certainly seems to be a scam!
