I always check TripAdvisor before book a hotel or restaurant and to obtain more reliable and detailed information.
I booked a bed and breakfast through trip advisor, a site I trusted. I received a confirmation and then immediately after received another confirmation from an outfit called getaroom.com-apparently a travel agent used by trip advisor. Even though the cancel policy said I could cancel without a penalty up to a week before, and I cancelled the res 40 days ahead and within FIVE MINUTES of making the res, getaroom charged me for a full night! I called the hotel who verified they had NO PENALTY. I called getaroom and they said this was the hotel's penalty and there was nothing they could do. I called trip advisor and they said this was the penalty and they were unable to help. I called my credit card snd they had it removed. Shame on trip advisor for using this dishonest outfit and then not doing the right thing. I will NEVER book through them again and I warn everyone else not to either.

Such a great idea this site is! A detailed world travel guide all in one site! The reviews are always helpful though some need to be taken with a pinch of salt sometimes.

I made a reservation for a hotel room with Trip Advisor. They used getaroom.com as a third party. Getaroom overcharged me for the room. No explanation. If you use Trip Advisor, do not let them use a third party. Better yet, negotiate with the hotel directly.
Great site and no matter where you want to travel or where you want to stay there will be a review for you to read, & help you choose and plan your travels. I would like to add that each time I have booked a trip (to the Carribean) I have consulted with this site and I have Not been disappointed! Sometimes it's the little things that travellers recommend that make a Big difference; for example when traveling to Varadero, Cuba which block of rooms to stay in when you want to be close to the beach, I used this tip & am I happy I did! :)
This is one of the Travel Sites which is straightforward! I have written over 216 Reviews on this site. Accuracy is based on ea. Individuals opinion; which can be objective or subjective! In addition, both domestic and international perspectives are given on travel destinations... restaurants... places of interests... As the educated consumer... the choice is yours!

It's really very simple... when I need to review anything travel oriented, this is my "go to" site. Are there other sites just as good? Maybe... I just have the most confidence in TripAdvisor.
In my experience, the bad reviews have, arguably, as much, or more value than the positive reviews. Here, I get a fair balance of both. That's all that I'm searching for when making a travel decision.

Dimitra Apartments and Studios have yet again excelled in excellence, cleanliness, superb hospitality and wonderfully equipped apartments. Yet, another summer vacation in Kalyves which was great due to excellent friendly welcoming, comfortable well equipped kitchen and amenities, close to the beach, brilliant beds, linen, facitlities. Whenever I plan, I always consult with TripAdvisor, I truly appreciate the time the guests are giving to write their comments, experiences, tips, guidelines that really helps a lot for the reader to make a decision. Though everything will be my decision at the end of the day, I feel more comfortable and secure when I read information. It gives me a real glimpse on how the guests feel towards their experience especially when they share their photos.
While doing a cross country trip through the USA during which we never knew exactly where we would end up each night, we would use tripadvisor to scan for nearby hotels to get quotes and look for availability. The rates we got through our online bookings were always better than what we were offered just walking in... we checked.
