TopResume's collaborative approach was easy to engaged with and yielded excellent results. At times, they pushed me out of my comfort zone (in a good way) to get results that I would never have arrived at on my own.
This was my first experience with TopResume as I discovered their link on Governmentjobs.com. I realized my resume was in desperate need of a revision and I submitted it for review. I received a very thorough critique in return which I totally agreed with and now want to pursue utilizing their services to rewrite my resume. This was a very positive experience for me.
The free critique about my resume was pretty complete with good/bad points.
The tools used are pretty interesting and help you to understand more the weakness about several major points.
This is totally fraud. They collected my money and returned me a file after their promised timeline, with lots of mistakes and no professional at all. Their service is absolutely a risk of costumers time and money. Once you placed the order, no refund will be granted, and there is no warranty, and TopResume will send you whatever junk they want. No recommendation at all.
After receiving an A+ on my resume, I decided to get a review to make sure the automated resume scan didn't miss anything. I assist at an Employment facility but I am by no means an expert. I went into this with experience with an open mind and, unfortunately, left feeling very skeptical. Job seekers are usually strapped for cash and I wanted to avoid anyone potentially getting scammed.
At first, I was pleased with the amount of detail that existed in the review but upon closer look, I realized most of it was not accurate. The review stated sentences were too short, but I'd argue quite the opposite. In fact, I was pushing the limits of allotted space and was flirting with sentences that existed on two lines. The reviewer said there were not enough numbers and too many signs of repetitive language (another thing I respectfully disagree with). Additionally, the reviewer said I had no career summary, which I certainly had. I looked over the review four times before researching the company and its reviews. Here's what I found:
1.) The reviews by "resume experts" seem to be auto-generated. I read other reviews and they were identical to that of my own. There was very little variation and none of the people I reviewed were in the same field or stated the same things in their resume.
2.)The customer reviews have a bit of a pattern.
Postive customer reviews seem to be generated/similar at times. Factors such as similar language and clustered positive 5star reviews caused me to raise an eyebrow. It's very rare that companies consistently receive the same style of writing, same exact rating (with little to no variation), and all clustered together (usually in two's, which may offset one-star ratings). I may be wrong but it feels like a pattern created by management. These reviewers seem to only post about TopResume, as well. On the other hand, negative reviews have varied language and were not posted at the same date and time. The negative reviews discuss the same complaints and seem to be a bit more genuine.
Log story short: Please be careful. Being a job seeker is stressful enough without needing to be scammed. I assume they will make changes to their method as people catch on and complain more, in any case, be careful.
I'm very sorry that this whole experience disappointed you. To address your concerns one by one. Our resume critique has a section that puts your resume through an Applicant Tracking System (ATS) and reports back it's findings. That part is generated automatically just like the other ATS hiring managers and recruiters uses. This is exactly the problem we are trying to tackle, customer's resumes that looks good on the eyes but aren't properly picked up by the Applicant Tracking Systems out there. However, the top portion of your critique are reviewed personally by our staffs, and they make individualized recommendations. As for the reviews, we have no control over when the customers posts positive/negative reviews. Please reach out to sitejabber if you would like more information on how they stop fabricated reviews.
I took the free resume review after applying for a position on Glassdoor.
Feedback was relevant, helpful and made sense.
Process was seamless and easy. NEVER was pressured to buy anything.
I learned that recruiters don't read resumes and how recruiters view your resume via tools/dashboard, and importance of punctuation and articulating your skillet.
The service was excellent. Turn around time was under 24hours. Great concise feedback from Emily on how to better market my resume.
I didn't even pay for their services. I received the free resume critique upon my signup. The person who critiqued my resume, Katie, told me my resume was unappealing and she "strongly recommended" I get someone to rewrite is for me (implying that I was unable to make the suggested edits myself), among other things that I found downright offensive. For a company who claims to want to help people, they sure don't teach their employees how to win people over. I reached out to the company to send them my thoughts about this and nobody responded to me. Some customer service. I won't be using their services and I'll be telling anyone I know seeking a job to stay far away.
Hi Lilly,
The goal of your resume evaluation was not to offend you. The critique is designed to analyze the information and formatting of your resume in a straight forward manner, and not intended as a personal attack. We would like to apologize if the critique offended you, but we promise you it was not our intention.
Best,
Gary
They did analysis, using data and pointed out specific opportunities to improve my resume, they did this for free with no commitment from me. They were spot on, I signed up. I look forward to working with them.
TopResume recreated what was one my dismal version of a resume into one that spoke volumes to recruiters to get my foot in the door. Definitely have their name right that they provide the Top Resume!
The free resume critique they sent to me offers a lot of useful information on how I can adjust my resume. I really like these suggestions. Would be great to sign up for their professional service, but I find it is a bit expensive for me.
Top Resume is very detail about resume review. The critique was detailed, pointing every issue, and highlighting what can be improved and what is good about the resume.
They follow up as well and give you more insight and tips for improvements.
They spent time and effort to help you find better opportunities and get more interviews. Like someone who cares for you:)
Thumbs up for the service!
Great review of my Resume
They provided a detailed and comprehensive review to my resume just a day after I submitted it.
Their feedback was very crucial to make some important corrections
Overall, my experience with TopResume went pretty well! Admittedly, I have a very diverse background, so I gave my writer a lot to work with. She took my feedback and applied it thoroughly throughout the documents. I think it's easy to forget that these people don't know you, so you have to be sure to take the time and give them absolutely everything. It is spoon-feeding a bit, but the result will be better with the more effort you put into it.
So I had just received an email from TopResume couple 4 days back regarding submission of my resume, and within 2 days they gave me an excellent review. I have tried getting it checked by couple of professionals but none of them gave me points like TopResume did. I have recommended this website to quite a lot of my friends who are struggling to get a job. The kind of details they look into is amazing.
TopResume did a great job of collecting my concerns and editing my resume as I requested. I'm very pleased with it. I had many concerns and their edits addressed all of them.
I was very satisfied with the outcome and the friendly personel. I would recommend TopResume to anyone
I am very impressed with the process that began with an objective and honest critique of my resume. The feedback enabled me to take an objective view of something I created and of which had a personal investment.
TopResume selected a writer whose expertise was in my field. This gave me increased confidence that the writer could accurately reflect my knowledge, skills, and ability. While the writer and I did not have voice to voice communication, he was effective in communicating timely and demonstrated a sincere concern for my concerns. The final products (resume, cover letter, and LinkedIn profile) were MS Word format, allowing me to easily tailor to the job being sought.
I'd highly recommend TopResume to the serious job seeker.
The service was fast, very professional, and the finished products surpassed what I thought I could get from a service like this. It really made me more confident in interviews.
Your critique provided me a new insight regarding my resume. Thank you so much for your time. I look forward in hearing more from you.
Answer: It depends, if you want to pay for a mediocre format riddled with errors that has the language equivalent of a high-schooler. You will end up paying $100 for something you could have sat down and done in an hour and a half.
Answer: Hi Carolyn, Thanks for asking! The process will begin with a questionnaire. If after you submit the questionnaire, the writer has follow-up questions, the writer will reach out.
Answer: Be careful with this company. They post 1000s of fake reviews to hide the real ones. Note that they do not post their phone number or address on the website. I had to file with the BBB to get a refund after never being contacted. This is a SCAM company - you are better off writing your own resume, trust me on this
Answer: You will not get your money refunded, no matter how bad the result is. I tried.
Answer: Because this company is a sham. Please do not waste your money. There are plenty of reputable services that you can use.
Answer: I second that, Alex! This service is a sham! I've been assigned 3 different writers and have received a subpar product back each time, written by someone who's first language is clearly not English. The best part, I paid $100+ for a "LinkedIn Rewrite" and this was where the writer copied and pasted their version of my resume into the boxes for LinkedIn. You've got to be kidding me... Don't waste your money!
Answer: I am on month two and still have not received a finalized document. Currently, I've gone through 3 different writers and still do not have a usable document. My original resume, cover letter and LinkedIn are far better products than what I've received from TopResume. If you are thinking of using this service, please PASS. It has been a tremendous waste of my resources: time and money. Best of luck to you.
Answer: Hi there, TopResume is great for accounting professionals. We have a network of hundreds of writers who specialize in a variety of industries, and we will match your order with a writer who has knowledge and experience in your field. If you have any other questions please feel free to email us at [email protected].
Answer: Hi Sandra, Apologies for the delay. Our customer support reps are always on and more response than we are on this review site! That being said, If you'd like to send us a direct message here or on our Facebook page, I can ensure that a customer support rep responds right away. To address your industry question, we have a network of hundreds of writers who specialize in a variety of industries and we can certainly match your order with a writer who has knowledge and experience in your field. If you have any other questions please feel free to email us at [email protected].
Answer: Don't waste your money. All of these "reviews" are probably fake. I actually paid them $189 and never even got a usable resume. Find a better company. These guys are crooks!
