TopResume is a very helpful service if you are trying to improve your resume. Even if you don't purchase any services from them, they will still do a free resume critique. They scrutinize it in the same manner that most companies would, and then show you exactly where your resume could use improvement (they even go so far as to tell you what kind of improvement that would entail), and where your resume is strong and not needing any modifications. Personally, I've always had trouble with my resumes, and I find this service to be invaluable. Thank you very much for all your help Laura!

As one of the previous reviewers accurately stated, 'they prey on the desperate'. After the original free resume evaluation, I hired their service to write my resume, cover letter, and LinkedIn profile. After two months of sending job applications and not getting a single call from employers, I decided to have the resume written by TopResume evaluated by another TopResume consultant and guess what? Her evaluation was exactly the same as the one done by the first consultant on the resume written by me. In essence, my resume did not pass the six seconds test and was garbage.

It is amazing how these scammers take advantage of people desperate to get a job. In many cases, we have to borrow money to pay for their fees hoping that they are honest people wanting to help us, but what they really want is our money.

When I buy a service I look for professional advice, which I didn't get. The sales rep engaged me for almost a year, before I decided to go with. I chose them based on an opportunity that was available and after speaking with the sales rep I could have the resume back by a certain date. Didn't happen. Ok fine, missed that one. I only received communication with the writer after midnight on the day we were to communicate, but ok fine. I would ask things like I'm in entertainment, can you make it bolder she said they didn't have flash player. I asked if they use grammerly because I see some grammatical errors, per the answer I don't think she knows what that is.
I don't know maybe it's me, I thought I would get an entire service, not a freelance writer that can't email till after midnight because of school or day job. Just didn't think it was worth 100+ bucks. I could have got a college kid and gave them 30 bucks which is what this felt like. Use or don't use, your choice, I won't again.

I had a terrible experience with TopResume. I would not recommend this service for the money spent. The first draft had typos and awkward language. The second writer assigned was a senior writer who basically copied and pasted my old resume. Eventually I had to edit and rewrite the resume until we got to the end of the revision period. None of my questions were answered through the process. The end product was disappointing.

I recently had to rewrite it because their fancy formatting appears misaligned in Office 365. I found this out after sending it to numerous friends and job openings:(

I had high hopes and in the end it was a waste of my time and money. The LinkedIn profile was a copy of my resume.

I wish I had gone to the LinkedIn writer recommended, my friend's profile is awesome and I'm using that to update my profile. Ask around for free services out there. I recently found out a church in my neighborhood has free consultations once a week.

It was such a bad experience didn't even want to give it one star. I feel ripped off and upset I had to spend so much time, money and effort to get a resume in the end very similar to the one I had written before.

Their free resume critique is generated by a computer program. "Professionally written resume" is also created by a computer program. The program is trained on inserting key words and changing/re-arranging some phrases. The end result might go through a very light human editing, but in my case, the very few human edits made by a "professional writer" contained grammar and style errors. They will not refund, because all sales are final. This is how they make money.

I'm not sure there are any "reviewers" - my impression given the total nonsense I got back is that they used my Linkedin profile to parse bits of information together into a grammatically incorrect, page of non-sequters. They used volunteer experience under the professional background section and I frankly don't use my time as "Team Mom" for my son's football team to support my professional aspirations. I refused to work with them further, because though I was paying them I could see it would be me squeezing a turnip to get satisfactory results back. If that's the case, why would I hire someone? I informed them of my experience, and my dissatisfaction, they refused to refund my money. It's a full bag of tricks, folks, no matter how desperate you are, look elsewhere for professional resume assistance.

This is the worst editing job I have ever seen. Lots of grammar errors, including bad tense agreement, wrong parallel constructions and wrong prepositions. The content of the resume was the same as my original resume. They totally ignored my career objectives and inserted some irrelevant key words. Aside from introducing grammar, and formatting errors this service did nothing. Keep in mind that they will not offer you any refund.
