This service opened my mind to improvements that I would not have thought of on my own. If you really need help with sprucing up your resume, this is the place!
Their representative was able to show me where my resume was weak at and explained the screening processes used. As I have not had to prepare a resume in years, all of this was new to me. She was careful to use "layman's terms" though. Thanks guys!
I agree with many of the other poor reviews. I received my second draft with a return date that was prior to the date I received the second draft. I wrote to resume writer and mentioned that fact as well as the spelling errors and redundancy within the second draft. The feedback I sent on my first draft was completely ignored. I did not hear back from writer but instead received another email which stated our contract was completed. What? I received several surveys and I wrote about my dissatisfaction. I did not hear from the company until I commented on a Facebook post by TopResume. I was then told I should have contacted a specific department sooner. I had written a letter to the rep I spoke with when I signed up and he did not respond either. In the end they offered to give me another writer and rewrite resume (which I had already done myself) or refund 40%. I wanted a 100% refund as they did not give me a product I could use. It was a waste of my time and money. Basics of customer service, what will make the customer happy? Not 40%.
It's a good thing that happened to me. I was searching for something and this site came up.
I uploaded my resume. Later I got email. They reviewed my resume. There were many mistakes in resume. They show me my errors and how to correct them.
I'll say it's one of the best site I have seen.
I stumbled on this site, they did a free review of my resume. Pointed out lots of grey areas and gave tips on how to improve it. I followed their guidelines to the letter and the first company I sent my resume to has called to schedule for an interview! Have recommended them to some of my folks already.
After weeks of going back and forth, and paying $175! They could not identify what industry I was in, The resume was littered in typos, and I was embarrassed to send out to employers. They have cost me my valuable time & money.
I sent my resume to the organization for a free review. The review came back ripping my resume to shreds and convincing me that maybe I do need resume writing services. So I paid hesitantly because it's not cheap and got the results. After going through the editing process (and the resume writer ignoring several of my questions and feedback), I got the final result. I've used said resume to apply for countless positions and haven't received a call for an interview so I started using my old resume again- and just like that received calls. I feel like I dropped over $100 on the ground and someone picked it up, leaving me with nothing and out a bunch of money.
I applied for a job and was able to get a free resume review with this company, which is what my experience with the company is with.
I got a thorough and honest review on what my resume is lacking and what I needed to do to fix it. I did not pay for their service, but I would totally be interested in seeing what they can do in the future.
Thank you!
This was a total and complete waste of money. First of all, I didn't receive my first draft to review until a week after originally promised. Second, once I received the first draft, I realized that this person who was supposed to be a seasoned expert resume writer did not have a clue about the industry I am in. The information provided in the resume was misleading at best and in most cases, completely inaccurate. Some of the text didn't make any sense. Given the apparent lack of understanding of my industry, I reached out to customer service to request a quick phone chat with the resume writer in hopes of salvaging the project and my money. They indicated that this would be impossible because the person is "not available by phone". They also indicated they would have to search for another "expert" writer who could talk on the phone but it would cost an extra $50. What? Seriously? I suspect the person assigned to my project was in India or the Philippines with limited experience where English was not his primary language. At that point I decided to cut my losses and finalize the resume on my own. Stay away!
I'm still unemployed more than a year later. A recruiter that specializes in my field said it's my resume. Because none of my actual duties are listed ON MY RESUME, it renders me not qualified for the positions I'm applying for.
I recall telling the Top Resume writer the same thing when I paid them hundreds of dollars to write it, but I was assured that isn't necessary nowadays, employers will already know what I did based on my job title.
The recruiter is helping me fix my resume
This service is a rip off. They do very little to change your resume and even the final versions have errors in them.
I would have been better off finding templates on google than spending my hard earned money and still not being able to find a job.
I love my resume. I do wish for the price I paid I would have gotten a bit more personal interactions. My writer seemed very rushed. None the less I'm happy with what I got and I'm hoping I can report it got me the interview it promised!
Placed an order for a linked-in profile re-write. Paid $99 on my credit card and after 2 weeks no response. Sent 2 messages to cancel... again no response.
I enjoyed the service and I believe my final resume is good but I did need to make additional changes after the final submission. The cover letter was written perfectly.
I had no idea how to write a prefect resume, so i searched many sites and found templates that made my resume look better, but the content inside it was still not up to the point, the most important step was to get my resume reviewed. TopResume was the best site that could do the job, it read my resume thoroughly and pin-pointed all my mistakes and shortcomings.
I was considering using TopResume's services, but after receiving an email that my partner had just gotten her Linkedin profile reworked, wrote her a cover letter and redid her resume, I was curious how she liked the services which the email clearly outlined she received. I asked her how she liked her experience and how well they did and she looked at me confused. She stated she did not have any services done by TopResume, yet I have an email that says completely different. This is exactly what they wrote me: " We reworked Sheena's LinkedIn profile, crafted a brand-new resume and wrote her cover letter, all within 48 hours.". I showed her the email, and she was baffled.
Considering she is a marketing director and is more than capable of crafting her own resume, I felt TopResume had lied to me. I wrote them back, but after almost a week now, I have yet to receive a response. I can't do business with a person or a company that lies to get you to buy their product. I'm sure they may have good services, but don't lie to your customers. After this experience I did some more looking and found that most colleges have free programs where qualified people will also write resumes for you, for free. I'll take my chances with them or just have my partner look mine over instead.
I'm Executive Chef and the resume I was using was a template I got in culinary school 20 years ago. I needed an updated resume and Top Resume made it so easy. I sent them my old resume and asked a few question and then in a few day had a great professionally written resume.
If you went to a good school, are reasonably intelligent, or had any decent direction on how to write a resume, TopResume is not for you. The quality of writing and formatting from the writer they'll assign you first is guaranteed to be poor unless you complain, in which case they'll take ages to get you a new writer, who will be a bit better. Their goal is to get you more interviews, not get you a job. The way they write is over-inflated and not representative of your actual qualifications and experience, not to mention multiple grammatical and factual errors.
If you don't know how to write a resume at all or came from a career where resumes weren't all that important, then it might be worth it, but it's an expensive price to pay for below average workmanship. Opt instead for a freelancer or a better company.
There process was professional (like your resume). It was easy, convenient and effective.
Even if you think your resume is top notch, submit it for a critique.
I resisted joining AARP for a very long time (I'm 58), but I finally took the moment, and joined, and it has been great. Through AARP, I was offered a discount on re-imagining my resume. I've been using the same format since the 80s, what could be wrong with my resume? I resisted accepting any input on my resume, even from friends! It was flawless, wasn't it. WRONG! On a whim I accepted the discount and went ahead and submitted my resume. What I got back took my breath away. It was SO well done! Christa at the company really gave it new life, and a new direction. I was amazed, and jazzed! I am hoping this really turns my job hunt around to something positive, after getting rejection after rejection.
Answer: It depends, if you want to pay for a mediocre format riddled with errors that has the language equivalent of a high-schooler. You will end up paying $100 for something you could have sat down and done in an hour and a half.
Answer: Hi Carolyn, Thanks for asking! The process will begin with a questionnaire. If after you submit the questionnaire, the writer has follow-up questions, the writer will reach out.
Answer: Be careful with this company. They post 1000s of fake reviews to hide the real ones. Note that they do not post their phone number or address on the website. I had to file with the BBB to get a refund after never being contacted. This is a SCAM company - you are better off writing your own resume, trust me on this
Answer: You will not get your money refunded, no matter how bad the result is. I tried.
Answer: Because this company is a sham. Please do not waste your money. There are plenty of reputable services that you can use.
Answer: I second that, Alex! This service is a sham! I've been assigned 3 different writers and have received a subpar product back each time, written by someone who's first language is clearly not English. The best part, I paid $100+ for a "LinkedIn Rewrite" and this was where the writer copied and pasted their version of my resume into the boxes for LinkedIn. You've got to be kidding me... Don't waste your money!
Answer: I am on month two and still have not received a finalized document. Currently, I've gone through 3 different writers and still do not have a usable document. My original resume, cover letter and LinkedIn are far better products than what I've received from TopResume. If you are thinking of using this service, please PASS. It has been a tremendous waste of my resources: time and money. Best of luck to you.
