1 - Do your research.
Everyone wants a new resume, cover letter, etc. but no one wants to take the time to research the best way to get it done. Work with a Career Coach, not some resume writing service that barely pays its writers.

2. They don't pay fairly.
To everyone who's had a poor experience - you may have paid $200+ for your service, but your writer only received $20. That's right. And only $5 for a cover letter. TopResume writers are paid an insulting fee for their work. The last thing they want is an email from you about how much you paid. Because they're not even seeing half of that.

3. Stop being lazy.
Who pays someone to write a LinkedIn profile for them? Ridiculous. It's okay yo get guidance on this but having someone write it for you is just lazy. A LinkedIn profile is way too personal for someone to do it on your behalf. There's lots of resources out there for you to check out best practices on LinkedIn profile writing. And again, TopResume writers only get $15 to work on this.

4. Speed = More Money
The writers are paid more money (usu about $8-10) to get the first draft out to you faster. So again, you may pay $200+, but you're only getting $20 worth of work plus whatever it takes for that writer to send you your first draft quickly and get a few dollars more for doing so.

5. Do more research.
Work with reputable companies that pay their workers/freelancers fairly. You'll get much better service and much better quality.

If i could give 0 star i would have! I used Top resume to make it more professional, and pass the resume selection software! I talked with many resume professionals and worked very hard to keep it one page and what to write. The only thing top resume did was changing the layout of my resume which I could do for $1 membership if i wanted to. It was a joke and i paid lots of money for it! I bought this service because of the reviews i saw in this website. DON'T PAY FOR IT

I signed up for their service and before they had assigned me to a "writer" I was offered a job based on my original resume. I quickly emailed themto cancel since to that point no work was done other than me filling out a bunch of online questionnaires. I was assigned a writer and then they responded to my cancellation request with a $75 fee for cancelling! Save yourself some money use a colleague to proof your resume and save your self $$ and the hassle of working with companies like this.

I was on the fence about getting a resume writing service for awhile before I finally settled with Top Resume. I got their top tier package and was not disappointed. My writer was very knowledgeable about the field I was trying to make a break in and how to put my current skillset and certifications on paper and make them sound way better then what I had come up with. My writer was very quick in her correspondence and literally I could email her at any hour of the day and I got an almost instant response! It's still fairly recent since I got my final product but I can say I've had a few interviews already and I'm very hopeful for my future and I couldn't have done it without the boost I got from these guys! Definitely would recommend to anybody trying to change careers or fields.

The experience of topresume was fine. I was furiated when I saw the first draft. It was like a 10 years old writing. I called them and they change it. The second draft was better and long. They did help me re-organized sentences, but that was all. The writer did not know my field. He asked me for all suggestions. I sent out my second draft to three companies and I got two rejections the next day (I did not get so quick rejections with my own written resume). I would only pay $30 for the sevice, but they charged me $219. Not worth it at all. But I was too swampped to argue.

Had a sudden career change and had to update my 10 year old resume. Quick service and turnaround. At first it looked and read kind of funny, then after doing a bit of research, I found it was optimized for the search engines recruiters use. Made a couple of changes with the writer and it came out good. Hope I don't ever need to use it again, but after 16 years things have changed, and they were able to get my resume where it gets pulled up by recruiters - it was worth the cost.

After searching for three hours, It was my bad luck that I chose Topresume and paid them USD 250 for a complete package. After one week I was allocated a resume writer who's english/ resume writing skills was by far the worst. I was sent a covering letter as part of package which was so poor. Copy paste from some other profile. Top resume's customer service was atrocious and never bothered to fix the issue. I was running out of time and finally ended by doing my own resume. After lot of struggle, I was given a very small refund and I had to forgo most of my money. If you want to lose your money and screw up your career, you may go with topresume. The review process was horrible as all they did was send back my existing resume with a new style applied. Anyone with Word could do that! Upon marking up the document, it was another week before I received any comments and they reset the clock again - sending the exact same document. I responded back stating I had already marked everything up so take the comments and make the edits. Apparently, the editor did not like my comments and when I tried to discuss the fact that this was supposed to be a collaborative process, they stopped responding. As many others have noted - there are no refunds so unless you agree with everything they do, you will receive no service and be out the money.
