If you win a bid that's really in your favor (low, low win) some seller's will intentionally screw up the order so that they can give a refund to correct their intentional screw up. In reality the sellers recover their loss by this means. They NEVER screw up when the bid is in their favor! BEWARE! I've seen people bid way way higher for things that are much cheaper on Ebay, Amazon, etc.
******UPDATE*****Tophatter gave a refund and a $5 credit to me plus a reprimand to the seller. That's satisfactory enough for me.

Like any site, Tophatter has its pluses and minuses. On the minus side first, you have to make sure you time your bid if it is going twice or it will not register, bid at the beginning of the going twice notice. Also, the goods are not always as good as what you see but if you click on it and review the write up you will get a better idea of what you are bidding on, and its functionality/quality.
On the plus side, bidding can be fun, a challenge. Some good deals are to be had. Also, items will appear more than once and you can have Tophatter flag you when the item is coming up again. With this tool you can let items pass if the bids become too high for you, there is always another opportunity to get it at the price you want.

I just got a 3-D Skull nightlight. It is not at all like it was represented, nothing 3-D about it. It is a piece of pexiglass with a design scratched on it that light from the base shines up thru. The price of return postage is so high that it's not worth it to send back. I think that's what they count on, so people will be stuck with their junk and they can just go on pawning off this crap on people. I'm pretty easy to get along with and don't complain much, but be warned, they're selling some garbage.

I found tophatter late summer and started Christmas shopping, I have enjoyed it and they have so much more than jewelry. Toys, clothing, household. Several name brands. I love the challenge of finding the best deals. Read descriptions fully before you bid and have fun!

I said I would never buy again but because I was forced to pay out of pocket to return an item that was garbage, they would only give me a $21 credit on their site, so I pretty much had to buy from them or lose my money.
I bought one item to use up the credit. It arrived in pieces and was absolute garbage as well. Luckily, they just refunded with no questions asked, and I didn't have to return it, but instead of refunding the full amount, they put the credit back onto my account, so, again, I had to order or risk losing my money.
I was never able to see anything I wanted, and I was very hesitant to order again anyway, then I lost track of the date for the expiry on the credit, so it expired,
I contacted them and they added the credit back to my account again.
I bid on a bracelet, thinking the credit would go towards it, but it didn't. I guess it's my fault for not reading clearly, but I thought I could just order an item at a time until the amount of my credit was used up.
Not so.
I had to purchase an item of the same value or more than the credit in order for it to be applied.
The bracelet was only $8 with $2 shipping, so it wasn't a huge loss. It arrived in the mail fairly quickly, but it was very poorly packaged, and of course, there was a stone missing from it!
I said to my daughter, "Am I ever going to get anything from that stupid site that doesn't have a problem?"
I contacted them again, and a refund was issued with no questions. I don't have to return the bracelet, so I am not on the hook for shipping costs.
Once I read through again to find out why my credit had not been applied, I tried doing "Buy now" rather than bidding in order to use up the credit, but every single item I tried to buy came up as "Not available to buy now" even though there was that option on their pages, I finally found a purse that used up my $21 credit, I only hope the purse is fine, because if there is a problem, I will end up back in that stupid loop of having to use up a credit.
In the meantime, I had bid on another item and thought I had lost out, only to have a notice coming up telling me to pay for my order.(I blame that one on my own computer being very slow to register the bidding progress.) So I paid for that one, and I really shudder to think what it will be like, because it is electronic and possibly fragile.
So now I just wait for these items to arrive and, again, I hope they are not garbage or damaged.The track record so far is not good.

The item was finally delivered and when I contacted them with the proof of delivery, they issued my refund. I have to wonder, if I hadn't contacted them, how long a refund would have taken. I used the credit on their site to buy something, and, of course, had to pay shipping on that. The item was on sale, according to their site, and shipping cost more than the item. When all was said and done, I was out of pocket for shipping for another 3 bucks. Now I wait for that item to arrive. If it's a dud, I think I will just say forget it. It's way too much hassle to get a refund.
I bought what they listed as a "Learning Computer". The description mentioned voice recognition, and on the same page, they offered a deal on memory cards as an add on sale, which implied the unit took a memory card. It claimed a regular retail value of over $600 (which, let's face it, I knew was probably inflated just for the sake of making it look like a huge savings) and they were offering it for around $35. I bid on it and got it for $15, plus shipping.
What I got was a cheap plastic dollar store toy. The "screen" was a sheet of adhesive plastic with icons printed on it to make it look like a computer. There was no mic anywhere to allow voice recognition, and no actual slot for a memory card at all. It was all just fake and made to look like a computer or tablet. The "screen" was all bubbled and lifting around the edges, and scratched up. I requested a refund.
Because I live in Canada, I had to pay shipping to send back this piece of junk to the US. If I had lived in the US, they would have sent me a pre-printed shipping label. They gave me a $20 credit on their website as compensation for having to pay return shipping, and that credit expires next week. (How is that compensation if it expires?)
Why would I want to buy another item from them, and then pay more shipping to have the junk sent to me? Meanwhile, they will not refund me until the item reaches the vendor, even though I have given them tracking that clearly shows I have returned the item. So now, I am out the cost of the item, plus the original shipping, and the return shipping, and I will be out of pocket for more shipping if I use their useless credit. Buyer beware. I had heard good things about the site and I have friends who love it, but my experience has turned me right off of the place!
You may feel like you're getting a deal but you're not. Most of the bids are high than you can get the produce from off other sites. Items run small and most come from China so if you need to return them it's you're lost. I complain about an item that was missing a piece to it and know one every got back to me. Tophatter is a Bad Site Stay Away! I received 3 items that were too small

Tophatter will always process refunds for buyers upon receiving a valid tracking number from them indicating that the order has been returned to the seller. Tophatter offers Buyer Protection in the form of a 30-day Easy Return policy that will either: 1.) refund the buyer without return needed, 2.) provide the buyer with a prepaid return label, or 3.) present the buyer with the seller’s address to return the item, paying for their own return postage with valid tracking number.
On our platform, refunds or prepaid return labels are provided to U.S.-based buyers until the buyer hits a threshold for free returns. For internationally located buyers, we provide some store credit to offset the cost of returning the item at their own expense until the buyer hits the threshold.
The acceptable return threshold is continuously calculated as a percentage of the buyer's total purchases. Once this threshold has been met, the cost of returning the item to the seller with tracking will be at the buyer’s expense. When this happens, it is explained in the email buyers receive when they request a return, that they are responsible for the return shipping cost, and the buyer is provided with the seller’s return address to facilitate the successful return of the order.
Tophatter’s return policy is in-line and considered standard among the industries’ competitors. Marketplaces, as an industry, institute thresholds for the number of free returns offered, to curb abuse.

Bought a item, paid for and shipper didnt ship my order, and then canceled it and was told i got a refund where did the money go, 4items are still undelivered, sent a cheap necklace with no value to it, i ordered the product from alibaba ladies wrist watch whichthey cancelled and refunded, got same item for $1.20 way cheaper then the auction i bid on for same item
The last four things I received from Tophatter were just what I hoped they would be. I was very pleased. I did receive something that didn't work and sent it back for a refund. 1

I didn't really feel I could write an honest review until I had ordered a number of items from different sellers and see how they compared.
PROS: Merchandise that is very reasonably priced and might be good quality.
CONS: You get what you pay for.
First item I bought was a "spy camera pen." Don't know why I jumped on this, but it looked interesting. I think it cost me $10 and didn't work. Tophatter has a 30 day return policy but... WHERE? Everything I've received has been from China and how am I supposed to get it back there? It would probably cost me more to ship it back than it cost to order. I checked that up to a loss. One Star.
Second item were 3mm gold earrings and they were fine and came with a free heart necklace. Good quality for what it was. Three Stars.
Third item was a bangle bracelet with purple jewels. My wife already has some of these so I know right away what is quality and what is not. Surprisingly, this was very high quality with good weight. Didn't feel or look cheap. Four Stars.
Fourth item was a piece of lingerie. Supposedly ranked as "high quality." Since it's for the wife (and not for me) and a Christmas present, I haven't seen it on her yet. The quality seems fine. Three stars.
I've ordered a few more items and will see what they're like. My out-lay of cash hasn't been that bad so I don't mind taking the risk and, so far, I've been satisfied.
Couple other notes. If you order something by accident, you can cancel the order but if you cancel more than a couple orders you won't be allowed to bid for a week. This was on THEM, though, not on me as I thought I was bidding on a certain item when, all of a sudden, I had won some other item I didn't bid on. I tried to tell them that there was a glitch and no one seemed to care. Still, it was easy to cancel the order. Lastly, one time I was bidding on an item and my bid was $6 and suddenly it jumped to $28 and I won. I had to cancel that order, too.

So disappointed in everything I purchased. Its all garbage! Descriptions are lies. I bought stuff with usa seller. That was a lie too! Total rip off site! Run away from these people! Sketchy as Hell!

Their products are cheaply made... total garbage! Their "original" prices are super inflated to make you think you're getting a bargain. The items come from China and if you were to buy them directly from there (don't know why you would anyway), you'd get them for half of what you would from your final bidding price at the site. Don't waste your time or money on this garbage!

Answer: Justin you are absolutely correct. I find out the hard way. I had my own auction with nice AUTHENTIC designer items and cosmetics (Becca, Cargo, Smahbox, Too Faced, etc). I lost big time. $40 Cargo palette sold for $10; it cost me $15. Items that I started higher to cover my cost never sold. I still had to pay fees for the item being listed. A $200 Calvin Klein purse sold for $20; it cost me $80 wholesale. Run!
Answer: If you end up buying a few items from the same seller they can do a combined shipment but you rarely get the same buyer items since they only let the sellers sell 10 items a day. It is different for the sellers that have their own auctions.

Answer: Depends on what you are selling. Yes, a lot of items go unsold in the jewelry and accessories categories... as well as others. Coach and Michael Kors and other designer brands, not much goes unsold, because here's the catch - - you pay fees on the starting bid. TH wants everything to start at $1. So you get punished if you start higher as to not get screwed by a low purchase price. Say you buy a designer bag for $120. If you start that bag at $100, you're already paying over $10 in fees. **IF** you can manage to sell it for a profit, there are still the commission and bank fees. If you start it at $1, you're barely paying any listing fees but it might only sell for $80 (or less!). So, less fees, but you lost your ass on the item. It's messed up. Most sellers have put in their time to see if they can make a profit or to see if TH will change, but they all seem to end up leaving. I'm convinced the only ones who stay to sell there are the counterfeit or crappy quality sellers who are buying items for next to nothing, because that seems to be the only way to make a profit there these days. I would go the ebay route if you're looking to sell.
