I could not even place an order, and it never was made clear that y0u have to be a member in order to do so, which I didn't, since there was only item that interested me. BTW, those who tried to cancel and were not unsuccessful need only to place the charge in dispute with their credit card company, and the charge will be deleted.

I saw the product I wanted, I put it in my cart, I read all the warnings etc. and my stomach clenched, as did my butthole. I really have amazing disdain for people who charge you and don't let you cancel. So I went and read the overwhelming amount of 1 star reviews and saw how many people got charge 80 bucks in order to save 3.00, becuase they weren't allowed to cancel or there was fine print, or something nebulous. WTF is wrong with society that when people work to earn their money there is always a shady assh*le ready to pull something to take money they in fact did NOT earn. I found the same product, 'trace minerals' at walmart, free shipping. Glad I trusted my gut and puckered anus and read the reviews before ordering. I dealt with a scumbag parking facility in Long Beach like this. (insert accent) 'No my friend, we do not take anything larger than a 20, and only tell you that as you leave. Please sign this notice to pay. ' I knew that if I did, and even when I paid these pieces of excrement would try to bill me... they did. I had it dismissed. So: buy walmart, forget these guys.

It's OK
January 3, 2018

So I signed up for the free 30 day trial membership and thought it was OK. I never had trouble getting in contact with a customer service rep and when I called to cancel my membership the first time, I got another 30 days free. I just called today because I don't way to pay a $60 membership fee for the year (the savings aren't the great compared to my local health food store) and it was easy to cancel. The selection isn't that great and shipping is a little slow. I have to say that everyone I dealt with was polite and helpful. I think it would be worth it if you lived in a very rural area and needed certain health foods. Luckily I am close to a number of reasonable health food stores, so the membership isn't necessary.

So I am changing my review from 3 stars to 1. I am very upset with this company. Even after talking to customer service and receiving an email verifying that I cancelled my trial membership and DID NOT want to continue as a paying member, my credit card on file was charged today. ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE! I will be calling customer service and raising hell as soon as they open. Don't even bother trying the free trial... it's apparently a sneaky way to get your credit card on file and then charge it without your consent.

Is the lack of reading comprehension these people have. It states pretty explicitly in multiple places on the website what happens when you place your first order... you opt into the trial period and you have 30 days to cancel before an annual membership fee is charged. I don't understand how people are saying they have been misled unless they didn't take ten minutes to read what they were signing up for. I guess this is common nowadays.

Anyway, I love Thrive. We get great value on certain products. Not everything is going to be cheaper than Amazon or Costco, but if you take your time and compare prices, you can get great value. It's a shame so many negative reviews are posted because people can't read (or can't be bothered to check their credit card statements so they end up getting charged MULTIPLE YEARS before they figure it out... really?).

For our family Thrive Market is wonderful. I clearly read I had 30 days to trial then $60 would be charged to my credit card. I received an email prior to this deadline warning me that we were at the end of our trial. We also took advantage of a 20% first three orders when we joined which saved us about $60 after our first three orders were placed. I researched prices on gluten free items we buy in my area and Thrive Market is lower than anywhere else I can purchase the same items. If you buy a lot of specialty products such as, gluten free, organic, etc. it is a site that can save you money. Know your prices though & read the offers carefully before " clicking" as with any online store/offer

Won't let me Cancel!
December 26, 2017

I emailed to cancel back in May of 2016, they sent a follow up email asking if I "really wanted to cancel." I unfortunately didn't see this email and didn't respond. So they renewed my membership I didn't realize I signed up for anyway, after I sent an email asking to cancel. Unfortunately they did this a month after I asked to cancel, and they just tried to steal another $60 from me. I went on the chat to try to cancel again and get a refund, and then they try to persuade me to stay! After I insist I want to cancel they finally comply but only to refund one of the yearly memberships. I am currently awaiting the refund from the 2016 membership charge! Bad business practices.

The words Auto renewal are carefully avoided
December 26, 2017
Updated review

Thrive representative says, We try to be as transparent as possible regarding our membership model. Ive added two screen shots from Thrive website, showing the exact opposite. They extoll advantages of membership, the 30 day free trial, the $59 membership yearly cost but NOWhere are the words that the membership is automatically charged; however I have read it somewhere buried in explanations to us whiners, as we are called in some reviews. Again SHAME, SHAME on you Thrive. You will not succeed because of your dishonesty.

With Netflix and other honest, up front companies, you have to sign up after free trial or your services are cut off. If Thrive was an honest company they would block your orders after 30 day trial until you signed up.

And their prices are equal or higher to what I can get in local grocers plus huge shipping costs. Trickery is a veil for fraud. BEWARE!

Like most others, we let the "trial membership" lapse and we have been charged $59.95. Thrive Market's response has persistently been, "As a membership based company, we offer...".
There are 3 issues with this:
1. Why not understand whether a membership would be a good fit for a customer BEFORE "offering" the trial?
2. anytime a consumer has to opt-out of paying $, it's a bad situation for a consumer. The customer should have to opt-in to paying $. Does a single purchase from their site constitute an opt-in? Of course not; especially upon checkout, the customer has no choice to reject the "offer".
3. This practice goes against what consumers would "normally" expect from merchants. Just look at the # of complaints.
What percentage of these complaining customers would continue to do business with Thrive Market?

Hi C. P.- We appreciate your feedback. With the purchase of their first order, customers opt in to a 30 day free trial. This offers a chance for them to decide whether Thrive Market is a good fit for them. The free trial can be cancelled anytime, and we do send a trial expiration reminder 5 days prior to the membership charge. There are multiple companies including Netflix and Spotify that offer free trials prior to rolling into a membership. We try to be as transparent as possible regarding our membership model, including noting all details just above the "place order" button at checkout.

This company tries to force you into an annual membership without making it clear what they are doing or what they are charging on your items purchase page. The site does not advertise its membership basis properly at all. I ordered something from them a few months ago and they were about to charge the membership until I stopped them doing so. A few weeks ago I ordered again on the site totally forgetting this was the scumbag company that had tried to sneak in a membership charge before without letting you know. This time they charged the membership at the same time as the the charge for the products but there was absolutely no indication of this charge on the purchase bill total. When I rang them to cancel they refused to give me a full refund for the membership, forcing me instead to accept 6 months membership. I never received a receipt for the membership charge. I got the information from PayPal a day later.
If this company is thriving - it is doing so dishonestly.
Beware!

UPDATE:
After, writing this review - another on Trustpilot - raising a resolution with PayPal - they have agreed to give me a full refund and cancel the membership. The above review remains for the hassle it took to get it back and for their thinking that it was OK to conduct business in this way in the first place.

I visited their website was interested in making a purchase and read their terms and decided against joining. The point of my post is to clarify for potential customers that the terms for the subscription are clearly stated before you make a purchase.
Many people on this board just lack the comprehensive skills to understand what they are reading and then whine that Thrive is being deceptive, when they clearly are not. Just my two cents

Don't do it!
November 17, 2017

I decided to try Thrive Market out. My husband just found out he has a bunch of food allergies and we are visiting my parents in another state for Thanksgiving. Since he has special requirements I have asked them to make certain recipes for food he can eat... dairy free, egg free, gluten free, etc. Instead of making them hunt down the items for things they wouldn't normally buy and probably won't use again, I subscribed to Thrive and found the items there and had them shipped straight to their house. When the items shipped I got an email saying all of a sudden one item was out of stock and that they were giving me a refund on a gift card. I reached out to customer service to see if they could just sub a different brand to send out. They refused because the other items already shipped and they said they don't just send one item out because of their sustainability rules. I told them it was really purring me in a bind and reasons why. I also suggested that in the future they should offer substitutions to avoid this happening. They didn't seem to care or want to help so I asked that my money be refunded to my credit card not a gift car. D Also that they cancel my membership. Well, my membership didn't get caneeled. So I had to call again today and ask for my membership to be canceled. Also, I didn't notice any savings shopping on this site. The pricing seemed to be the same as my local grocery store. I spend $50 on ingredients to make a chocolate pie. Therefore I don't recommend using this site.

Hi Heather- I apologize for the experience. As a carbon neutral company, we try to have as little impact on the environment as possible. That being said, per policy, we did issue you a gift card so you could re-order that item as soon as it was back in stock. We are constantly working to improve our restock time to keep up with our growing catalog.
Each brand we carry provides a manufacturer suggested retail price (MSRP). In practice, some retailers will price higher than the MSRP (like local boutiques), while others will price lower. On average, our products are 25-50% below the MSRP, and are cheaper than other retailers 90% of the time. We'll be sending you a private message to further discuss any account concerns you may have.

Like other reviews, the automatic 30 day membership wasn't apparent. Still on looking at the email I got about the membership, it said I could cancel my membership. I emailed Thrive telling them I wanted to cancel the membership.

I got an email back from Thrive, saying that they were sorry to hear I was considering canceling my membership and they signed me up for six months at a reduced rate. I had been clear I wanted to cancel the membership before the 30 days I was up. I am getting the run around.

After the 30-day trial, they charged our credit card for the membership. During the 30 day trial, I could order any number and quantity of items that I wanted. So I did not think that there would be limitations placed on orders once the trial was over. Well, I tried to place an order today and could not order multiples of items I wanted like I was able to during the trial. I was told that they do place limits on certain items you want to order. I never heard of such a thing. But it appears that they only exercise this right as outlined in their agreement for membership after you complete your trial. Very sneaky if you ask us. You should check out their terms for membership at thrivemarket.com/terms. Even if you have paid a membership fee, they reserve the right to limit and refuse to fill your orders if they should so desire. Please beware! We are sorry we joined.

Hi Louella- I apologize for the experience. I can assure you that there are no quantity limits that differ between paid and trial members. The maximum quantity for the specific product you were looking for may have changed, but this is not common. Unfortunately, we do not offer items in bulk quantities and sizes at this time, though it is something we hope to explore in the future.

Triple retail prices, phony deals (above retail might be a reduction in THEIR prices, but it sure ain't no deal!). And worst- buried just deep enough to not be illegal but impossible to notice without warning is their announcement of an annual fee. Site design, verbiage and conspicuous omission hide this extremely well. They've assured me my account has been. Canceled, but I've had a new card issued to prevent the theft described by so many hundreds of others. AVOID THRIVE MARKET AT ALL COSTS

The reason I decided not to continue with Thrive is b/c I was unaware that once you purchase something from them they automatically sign you up for a trail membership for 30 days. If you do not cancel they charge your credit card $60. They claim that this is expressed at checkout, which it may be but they put it in the small fine print at the very bottom of your transaction, 90% of all human beings do not read the "fine print" on a grocery website. That was my mistake. Thrive should make it visible on their web page where people can actually see it.
When I called the cancel it was actually very seamless. I just wish they were more up front with the membership details and made their new customers aware that they are being signed up for a trial, just not very trustworthy.

Thrive Market offers good prices for goods that cannot be found in many grocery stores in middle America, but I decided to cancel my membership after not being able to take full advantage of the monthly membership. I received an email confirming my cancellation, but I continued to be charged the very next month. The customer service rep profusely apologized and refunded the charge, but the charge should have never happened in the first place. I am disappointed by their disorganization.
