thredUP Reviews Summary

ThredUp's reputation is marred by significant customer dissatisfaction, particularly regarding the selling process and customer service. Many users report feeling misled about item valuations and processing times, leading to frustration over perceived exploitation and lack of transparency. While some customers appreciate the variety of products available for purchase, issues such as delays in shipping, inadequate communication, and poor handling of returns overshadow these positives. Overall, the sentiment leans heavily towards disappointment, prompting many to recommend alternative selling methods and express reluctance to engage further with the company.

March 31, 2017

Sent in an entire bag of 4 brand new dresses and shoes that had never been worn... all sold in the first week after processing and all I received was $2.50! What a rip!

Don't Use!
March 31, 2017

I'm not sure I've ever written a review about my experience with a company but I feel the need to warn you about this site. I sent in many high-quality items and after being charged $7 for the bag and $10 for "return assurance," I made $2. You will make much more money at your local consignment shop and you will find much better prices for items. I wish I looked at Thred Up reviews before I sent in my own clothing - I never would have sent my items here.

A place to buy online for second hand clothing, name brand for cheap sign me up, to sell your clothing don't recommend, now if you just want to give away go ahead. Don't expect a huge profit. Nice packaging when you receive your online items, within 3 to 4 days tops. My go to online store when shopping vintage.

Such A Rip-off
March 30, 2017

Sent in a full consignment bag worth of items, received $25.00. Don't really believe that they only kept 5 out of 35 items I sent as the others were in great condition, some brand new. Took them a month and a half to process the bag. Charged me $10.00 to process, more to get the items they don't take back. Not worth it, take your items elsewhere or donate them.

Decent resale shop
March 31, 2017

I wouldn't recommend this if you are looking to sell your clothing, honestly. But it's great for getting good deals. I bought a dress, originally $50 for only $4.50 with a coupon. Now holy heck, that's a great deal. I think for the most part all of the clothes are new(ish) and if they aren't there is a description under the posting explaining it. I actually just got my first order yesterday and I'm really happy. I just wish they'd do more measurements on clothing (like inches around the pants waist or skirts instead of just how long they are.)
I'm planning on ordering more from this website in the future.

Love love love the concept! Gave 4 stars instead of 5 since it is not available in Canada, and ordered a closet clean out bag that never came.

Thieves
March 30, 2017

I sold a huge bag of clothing to them including accessories and shoes... leather lucky brand flats in great condition! It was about 20 items and they gave me 4 DOLLARS! It doesn't make sense to request your items back because you have to pay for it, you would lose money. What is every crazier is that I saw the lucky brand flats for sale on the website for $20! They really are thieves, tricking innocent people to send in their clothes, giving them horrible rates and then selling it for a huge profit. I would recommend donating because atleast they will be going to someone who needs it; not a greedy, dishonest company

I sent a bag which was bursting at the seams with gently used items, several of which are for sale on the site. After the $9.99 "shipping charge", I'm getting a massive payout of $0.16! P.S. This took about 2 months to process. Waste of time and money. I wish I would've just donated in my community.

Ever since they changed their policies and started deducting $10 from YOU for sending your clothing in, they must have also changed their payout policies. I sent in a bag recently where they accepted 14 items- 14!- and I'm receiving $3. What?! I could have done better with a garage sale selling everything for a quarter each! You have to order the bag, fill it up, drive it to a drop off point, wait months, then, once they finally go through your bag, wait even longer for your funds to be released, as a way to try to get you to spend it on their site instead. It's a great business model, if you think about it: have people pay their own money to send stuff to you that you can sell for a large profit and pay them almost nothing. Genius. But it's also taking advantage. Don't sell your stuff with them. Just don't. Plenty of sites you can use that will pay better. Try LetGo or craigslist or a consignment shop.

I sent in over $1000 worth of clothing and shoes - many new with the tags still on.
I got $15.
They * some of the brand new, never worn, still tagged items as "having faults" (so they could shot me $$ I'm guessing).
Every single item, alone, was worth more than they paid out to me in total.
Never again.

Love It!
March 28, 2017

Only way I buy clothes now. Love the ease it is to order and how it comes right to my door. Easy to return things that do not fit. They also have great discounts periodically.

They will still your clothes for pennies on the dollar. DO NOT SELL your clothes to them... I sent in a huge bag of basically new clothes and shoes... shoes never worn and some of the clothes had tags on them... I received $20... I gave them $10 back to send the unwanted clothes back... but then I look on what website for some of my clothes... they sold on of my dresses for $60... so do yourself a favor and find a better selling website for your clothes... ThRed NOT!

Horrified!
March 26, 2017

I have a six month old baby. A ton of clothes (brand NEW, brand NAME) given to us were for the wrong season. I had a winter baby and was gifted all these beautiful summer infant clothes. And babies grow faster than they wear most clothes. Long story short, tags were removed for the first initial wash before a baby wears clothes. But my girl didn't wear any of these clothes. I sent OVER 100 ITEMS of beautiful brand name clothes never worn! AND I MADE $00! They said I made $5.00 but after the shipping fee of 9.99 I'll legit get nothing. I'm sick just thinking about this! All of those clothes gone! Wasted! And I guarantee they are selling them! There's no logical reason to turn them away! I didn't expect them all to be accepted because I felt that was a pipe dream but they only accepted like 5? No. That's just not possible. There is a local comsgnment shop that just opened here. I spoke with the owner she she said she has heard this complaint about ThredUp. I will bring her the clothes now. And FYI I peeked around the shop and they are gently used baby clothes and my clothes gave to thredUP were in better condition then what people are buying (and they were there buying) from this shop. I feel like they just stole from me and my baby!

It is so much fun to shop the huge selection to find the fashion items to fit your exact style and fit your budget too. If your item isn't exactly what you had in mind, refunds and/or exchanges go off without a hitch!

I have to agree with other negative reviews. I sold through ThredUp twice, and both times were a huge disappointment. I sent clean (sometimes new with tags), current, stylish, name brand clothing, and I received pennies in return. It was unbelievable. I had heard great things about this service so I was very excited. I didn't even mind the length of time it took for the company to process my items. But ThredUp seems to be a scam. Trust me, you are better off donating your items than selling through ThredUp.
