ThredUp's reputation is marred by significant customer dissatisfaction, particularly regarding the selling process and customer service. Many users report feeling misled about item valuations and processing times, leading to frustration over perceived exploitation and lack of transparency. While some customers appreciate the variety of products available for purchase, issues such as delays in shipping, inadequate communication, and poor handling of returns overshadow these positives. Don't do it.
October 2, 2015

Not thrilled with the experience.

First, I feel like the communication is poor. It took forever for them to even update me on my bag being delivered. The tracking number wasn't working, and then the updates throughout the process were delayed.

Second, I feel that it took ENTIRELY too long to process the bag. They pushed my processing date back twice, and then it still wasn't even complete on the date it was supposed to be completed.

Also, I feel like the payout is way below what it should have been. I will be receiving pennies compared to what they will make off the items. There were also other brand new items in that bag that I feel like are not truly going to be donated. I'm sure they will make a profit off of the items in some way behind the scenes, but that is the risk I took sending it blindly.

I wish I would have read more reviews before I did this. I would have made so much more money at a local consignment shop, but I liked the ease and convenience of doing it online and through the mail.

Lastly, I CANNOT believe they make you wait 14 more days to be able to cash out the balance once your bag has been process. I think that is ridiculous. You can spend the balance on their site right away, but you can't cash out for two weeks after.

So when it is all said in done, I will never do this again nor recommend it to a friend. I should have done my research.

HORRIBLE SITE
October 2, 2015

DO NOT SEND IN ANY STUFF TO THIS SCAM SITE. THIS SITE IS SUCH A SCAM. THEY LITERALLY HAVE CRIMINALS RUNNING AND WORKING THIS SITE. IT SHOULD BE SHUT DOWN, ASAP. IF YOU SEND IN YOUR STUFF THEY SAY MAKE SURE IT'S 'LIKE NEW" TO GET MORE MONEY. I SENT IN LITERALLY "NEW MICHAEL KORS' WINTER DOWN COAT, WINTER BOOTS AND RALPH LAUREN BOYS BRAND NEW SNOW BOOTS AND I GOT NOTHING. THEY SAID THE WOULD GIVE ME 16 DOLLARS, BUT MY FEE FOR SENDING IN THE STUFF WAS $16, SO I LITERALLY GOT A $0 PAYOUT. I EMAILED THEM THINKING THIS MUST BE A MISTAKE MY STUFF WAS NEW AND BEAUTIFUL, AND THE CUSTOMER SERVICE REP. SAID THAT IT WASN'T A JOKE. I DEMANDED MY STUFF BE SHIPPED BACK AND THEY SAID IT WAS ALREADY SOLD! THEN I SAW ON THE SITE IT WAS SOLD FOR 3X'S THE AMOUNT THEY PAID ME AND THEY REFUSED TO SEND IT BACK. I CRIED FOR A WEEK. I SENT THINGS IN TO MAKE EXTRA MONEY, SELLERS ARE NOT RICH PPL THEY ARE AVERAGE PPL LOOKING TO MAKE SOME MONEY TO HELP THEM OUT FINANCIALLY. THIS PLACE IS SUCH A SCAM. SPREAD THE WORD, AND DONT' SEND IN ANYTHING TO THIS SITE, EVER!

RIP OFF!
October 1, 2015

It took them 1 month to "pay" me for my large bag of high end clothing (most with tags!). Instead of paying me they put it on my account towards purchasing their clothing. Furthermore, they paid me $3 for about $200 worth of clothing! I sell on eBay & should have known better. I also donate to Goodwill & would have been better off. I have bought some of ThredUps items which are overpriced considering what I was paid. I will never use them again & have let everyone else know too. Don't do it!

Rip-off for Sellers!
October 1, 2015

Sent a full bag of Urban Outfitters, American Eagle and Free People and received $4.70. What a waste of time and effort. Next time I will give it to the poor. I'm sure my tax credit would be greater.

Judge for yourself. Photo evidence below. My email to ThredUP after they told me my like-new Diane Von Furstenberg bag was worth nothing:
"Could you send me a more precise picture showing the stain? I truly do not see a stain. Perhaps you can point it out to me in the photo you sent earlier today? I think you've taken a valuable bag in like-new condition... I appreciate that you have quality assurance procedures, but this judgment is unreasonable."

Their reply:
"That's the best photo I could have of the bag. Right where the zipper is supposed to be: https://s3.amazonaws.com/thredup-paperclip-production/assets/*******/raw.jpg
The right side is more darker (stained) as the left side.
Again, Our team does need to be strict about the items we accept that fall in to these categories, as they are responsible for ensuring those items are sold in our shop. The team are well-trained to spot rips, tears, stains, shrinkage, fading and other signs of wear. Every item that shows these signs of wear are selected out, in order to provide and re-sell clothing to other families who count on us to thoroughly check every item posted in our shop."

Judge for yourself. I don't see a stain. And they wouldn't send the bag back. I wouldn't be surprised if I found this very same bag for sale on eBay in a few weeks...

What Happened?
September 30, 2015

Sent Thred Up two or three bags a while ago. Got a good price return. Last bag sent got $6.00 for new or almost new clothes. Rip off. Will take to Goodwill or Sallie Army in future. At least someone will benefit from them.

Beyond disappointing
September 30, 2015

While I've bought some things that were okay, often, the items were not quite as described, not sized correctly, or otherwise not what I expected. So, from that standpoint, it's disappointing, though the selling prices are fair enough. I only recently sent in my first bag of clothes -- 22 items, most new, either with tags or without (most with). I got $7.45 for 22 items, only one of which could be described as "used." (although, this was in very good condition.) I highly recommend trying to sell elsewhere.

I have bought from ThredUp on 3-4 occasions and was happy with my purchases. They don't do a very good job at describing the items, such as fit, material, dry clean, etc. it is hit or miss. I bought a Gap jean jacket that was in like new condition but it had a heavy fleece lining that was not in the description. I contacted customer service, they were very cooperative and waived the return shipping fee. I don't have any complaints about customer service.

Selling clothes to ThredUp is another matter. They buy low (really low) and sell high. Also, their criteria on accepting or rejecting is not consistent. I sent brand name clothes and shoes in excellent condition and was told that some of the items didn't meet their standards. Yes, I could pay $12.95 to have them returned but really, it's not worth paying to get back what I already decided I don't want anymore, at least not at that price. I, too, wondered what they do the clothes they decide not to sell.

Terrible customer service
September 29, 2015

They do not return calls or e-mails. I purchased a handbag only to have them cancel my order. They told me it didn't meet their standards. It looked fine to me. They didn't tell me they were cancelling, nor did they notify me. I found out by checking my order status 5 days later. I suspect an employee wanted the bag.

A few years ago, I sent in a bag of name brand clothes to Thredup and got almost $60. Last year, I sent a bag in and got $12. I'm not sure what happened, but selling is a waste of time now. I haven't sent in anything and will sell elsewhere.

I do however LOVE buying from thredup. I have super long legs that only fit in designer jeans. The only reason I can afford designer jeans is because of thredup! You usually can't find designer jeans for $30 anywhere. I've been very happy with the quality of all my clothes that I've ordered. The ones that haven't worked have been easily returned. I do with you could search by inseam as it would make my hunt for 35" inseams much less time consuming. Compared to other consignment sites, thredup had much better pictures, descriptions, and measurements. I also like the you can see what other items someone has listed.

Customer service was quick to answer a shopping cart issue I had and offered me a 30% code.

In the end, thredup is great to order from but in the past few years, the selling has become a waste of time!

What a scam. Sent in 12 items including new Sam edelman heels. They only accepted the shirt that I got for $1. Thankfully I paid for return assurance, but I better get all my items back. Don't sell anything to this terrible website!

I've made a few purchases from Thredup for my daughters. Been satisfied with my purchases.
This spring I thought I would try sending in some of their items. Sent a bag of name brand. Practically new clothing. Very critical to not send anything with holes, stains, pills, etc.
My whole bag of items netted a $1.50 credit. What a joke!

Wow
September 25, 2015

The thing I noticed about ThredUP is I returned a a tank top that cost $5.95 and I noticed they relisted it at $10.49! So I decided to check a dress that I returned that cost me $38.25 and they relisted it for $44.99! I find that annoying! Now I'm wondering about the pricing for the things I'm ordering.

Prices way too high
September 25, 2015

Prices for USED items are still very close to retail, which is ridiculous given how little they pay folks who send stuff in. And their "Compare at" retail prices that they use to determine how much you are "saving" with their prices are a joke. Hello, I shop these brands all the time, I know how much they cost retail and Thredup waaaaay overinflates those figures. Buyers are much better off trying eBay, Poshmark, Vinted, Mercari, Threadflip, or Depop than this site.
