ThredUp's reputation is marred by significant customer dissatisfaction, particularly regarding the selling process and customer service. Many users report feeling misled about item valuations and processing times, leading to frustration over perceived exploitation and lack of transparency. While some customers appreciate the variety of products available for purchase, issues such as delays in shipping, inadequate communication, and poor handling of returns overshadow these positives. Overall, the sentiment leans heavily towards disappointment, prompting many to recommend alternative selling methods and express reluctance to engage further with the company.

Seriously, they take about 6 months to sort through your clean out bags. That would be fine if they were not THIEVES. This last bag, I sent them had designer items. With the possibility that the items might be too worn, I opted to pay the additional return fee. They happily charged me the $10 or course. The return was cancelled, but not the FEE. And, none of my rejected items were returned and the designer items were never listed. There are no checks and balances with this company. The consumer is really at their mercy to be honest about what is received.
Well... gave the thredup rescue box a try. So far I have to throw out 6 out of 25 pieces and I am not done looking at them carefully. Those 6 items were completely un-wearable. Holes, rips and material that was cut ridiculously wrong. Then, of the rest of the pieces... most have stains that I probably cannot remove and a few are brands I would never dream of purchasing, about 4 other pieces have all tags ripped out so I have no idea what they are or what size they are. There is also a leather jacket that completely started falling apart. I did not expect to get a box full of reformation dresses, but really? They should call it a junk box as most of it will end up in my garbage can. I am better off just thrifting myself and at this rate, it will be much cheaper! Chalk this up to lessons learned, but I won't be ordering any more rescue boxes... no thanks!
What a scam. I would have felt better giving my clothes away if I knew they take most of the money…. Complete waste of time. I sold 5 items and have made a total of $4.18, not even enough to buy one nice thing on their site.

In October I sent a box of mostly brand new clothing. I used to resell online but got a new job and didn't have the time. I had heard some bad things but thought I would give it a shot. Well it is now May and my "clean out" is still being processed, each time I check a few more weeks are added on. The 12 weeks has now turned into 25 and counting.
I've been a thrift clothes buyer almost my entire adult life, thredUP's selection is amazing, but their sizing is a total crapshoot, very inconsistent. Their product size listings are rarely correct; and considering you pay for returns this should be accurate. They've instituted a points program, but the catch is they will deduct a lot of them if you return an item. You are given 14 days to return an item but watch how they finalize the return credit if you've used a promo code, they list the items to be returned with the largest discount you received. My other real issue is with delivery. Expect a very long time to get your order, I can see they have to consolidate from one warehouse to another, but I've experienced orders literally stuck in their Georgia ship line for over a month! Considering you pay them for every item returned this is totally wrong.
I've used ThredUp over the past three years and I've been well-served through some of the clothing I've purchased. However, when it came to filling a clean out bag, do not fall into the trap to which I succumbed. There are options; I didn't want my items back if they were not sell-able/resell-able. There is no way the used but very good Diesel jeans (purchased on ThredUp!) and nearly new Frye boots were not able to be resold. I believed because these were popular items, I wouldn't have to say "return if not deemed resell-able." I should have. According to every attempt I made at getting acknowledgement that my two valuable items were received and rejected, I was told there was no record since I didn't mark off for them to be returned. I suspect my items, coming in without the request for return, were simply taken by someone in intake and uncredited to me. Despite the joke of "customer service" that is almost non-existent at ThredUp and my attempts at rectifying this situation, I was sent off with a $10 credit to my account. I should have been given $50-$75 for all the trouble and the value of the two items, but I was treated as if I was lying. I haven't used the credit because now ThredUp leaves me feeling violated and truly unappreciated as a customer. I'm over them despite having some great additions to my wardrobe through them.
It's not with ordering from here, you get things faster ordering something from China than ThredUP which is ridiculous. I've gotten excited by items that were lost and or just never showed. I placed an order on 4/10/22 and I still don't have the items and the tracking keeps reading "error" so I have no idea when the items will arrive and to top it off this company has the nerve to charge restocking fees. Complete joke!
So I recently started using ThredUP, and was enthused. I have a lot of extra clothes in pristine condition that I don't need. So I sent in one quite full bag (from Athleta); I was shocked to hear how very little money I received! I am also skeptical that they say all my items were accepted, totally 12. I am fairly certain that I sent on more than that! Then ThredUP immediately sends you back to a website to start shopping. Uh, no. That completely defeats the purpose. For me. All they are doing is perpetuating the viscous cycle! Nice. I sent out a second bag, but suspect it was taken by a postal worker. In the future, I will donate locally to a good cause; where I know that the clients are not only seeking help; they are actively seeking employment!
Love the idea of online resale but was very disappointed with the ThredUp experience. One box of clothes smells like cigarettes and so gross that I don't want to try them on or open the box in my apartment. Customer services is 10 day wait for communication and that puts you outside the window for returns. Probably going to return everything and have to eat the return fee and shippings costs, I hope ThredUp will refund it, but who knows. Buy plenty of vintage/resale and usually things are fine, am super unhappy with the ThredUp experience. Sharing to hopefully save someone else the hassel
ID GIVE ZERO STARS IF I COULD. SENT THEM 20-30 POUNDS OF GOOD DESIGNER CLOTHES IN JANUARY. THEY SAID PROCESSED IN 3 MONTHS. THEN THEY CHANGED IN TO 4 MONTHS. OK I STAYED SILENT. NOW I SEE THEY JUST CHANGED IN TO 5 MONTHS. WHAT A SCAM! I SHOULD HAVE JUST DONATED THEM TO CHARITY. 5 MONTHS. NO CLOTHES. NO FUNDS. HOW DO THEY DO BUSINESS?
Upon ordering & receiving my items from ThredUp, I was honestly disappointed in the appearance & condition of some of the items. They were clearly unwashed, some had stains and were obviously overpriced. I was really disappointed in the overall experience.
It takes so long to ship your order, which is never scanned for pickup at their GA facility, to arrive, you're sure they've stolen your money. Their customer-service chat is useless if you need help, and you cannot call them. Not a reputable business
I used to love ThredUP. Quality has gone down the tubes! They can't be bothered to put clothing on mannequins straight or even list items correctly (it says it is a dress but it is clearly a top or even a scarf!). Better not search for something, without accurate listings, you'll never find it. What's worse, they increased restocking fees from $1.99 per item (too much as it was) to a whopping $3.99 PER ITEM - an almost 100% markup! So much for fun thrifting!
Order K21WCNOFASCA placed 4/1/22 for $191.96 - 10 items from "home warehouse" GA, but items were not even shipped until 4/6. Just 1 of THREDup's myriad false claims. Only 20% of order was ok, 2 of 10 items. 1 item missing entirely. The other seven as follows and pictures posted:
1. Site said "good condition with minor signs of wear: minor wear on fabric." Pic 1 is from website. Reality? Pic 2 Waist cord is *knotted* tight and waist is cinched so they are unwearable.
Pic 3. Site said size 6. Reality? Size TEN. 2 additional pairs listed as size 6 were size 8 and then size 4.
Pic 4. Site said "good condition with minor signs of wear: minor wear on fabric." Site only shows front and back, never inside the crotch. Pic 4 is what I got - you decide if that is minor wear. Note how light the crotch color is compared to the surrounding fabric.
Pic 5. Site said color "gray, black" Reality? Pic 6 they are TAN, and *their* draw cord is also knotted.
I have many more pics, but I'm tired of making them the exact size this website wants.
When I discovered I could only "chat" -there's no way to reach an agent on phone- I spent 45 minutes getting them to promise no return shipping or restocking, then never deliver the label. I had to open a new chat and go through the whole thing again. This time I asked for 50% off the 2 items I intended to keep. Mind you, that amounts to $20. $20 for all this hassle I think is quite reasonable. They offered $5, because - well here's their own words: "We cannot offer a 50% since they were in good condition. If you would like to keep them, we can provide a refund of $5." When I refused, they offered a 40% coupon for a future order. HA! I said fine, I want a full refund and you can have it all back, agent said the 2 pairs that are ok (remember, only 2 pair out of 10 ordered were ok) would incur a 20% restocking fee and regardless I have to pay a shipping charge on the original order since my new total was below their free shipping offer. I said, Good Day, Madam!
Now I'm filing a dispute with my credit card company.
Update: ThredUp agreed to a refund, but for site credits! BEWARE and make sure you understand how they try to sucker you if in this situation.
I beg you dear reader, please find any where else to shop. I'm begging you to use your purchasing power elsewhere.
I ordered for the very first time on March 25. My order was shipped on March 30. My order hasn't been updated for over one week. My order is at a stand still. I contacted ThreadUP on several occasions. Each person looks at the tracking and tells me what I already know. All promising my package would be delivered today April 7. Once again I contacted ThreadUP to hear that I would get it today ( April 7). Ughhh really I am not in Georgia, where the package has been for over a week. When I stated that I would like a full refund. I was told I can't give you a refund. You have to wait until April 10. When again, I explained I am tired of ThreadUP promises and I would contact the BBB. I was told sure you can. Ugh I know I can. I wouldn't recommend this so called consignment store to my worse enemy. Terrible do not shop here, spend your hard earned money where your appreciated and not treated as if you have to sit and wait three weeks or maybe even longer for second hand dirty clothes and shoes. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THREADUP TO ANYBODY. MY FIRST TIME AND DEFINITELY MY LAST.
So first I wanna say I was told I would get my stuff in by March 30 it still has not arrived and Fed ex says that thred up uses cheapest shipping rates possible meaning it can take up to a month before my shipment is here funny bc really why send me emails stating I'm valued and blah blah and how u rushed my order to me. All lies seriously I have a graphics design business and I would never run it based off misleading advertisement and straight lie to my customers I spent over 300. With this company and for what to be lied to on multiple occasions. Very disappointed with Thred up I really was legitimately excited to order from u guys but I totally regret ever doing it. Very unsatisfied with ur organization
60 bucks wasted ON THIS RALPH LAUREN TOTE. DO NOT ORDER FROM THRED UP- VERY DISSAPOINTING. COMPLETE CRAP. NONE OF THIS DAMAGE SHOWN WAS IN THE DESCRIPTION>YOU'RE BETTER OFF ORDERING FROM ANY OTHER ONLINE STORE! ALSO ORDERED ANOTHER BAG NOT SHOWN, WAS DESCRIBED AS LEATHER, IT'S ONLY PLASTIC!
Answer: Don't bother. I got 80 cents for a whole bag of good condition name brand clothes.
Answer: I've actually emailed their customer service to show them how many negative reviews there were on this site and they did not care at all. They just quoted their policies. I'm sure they will go bankrupt soon enough...
Answer: 1% but they trash the expensive stuff (or am not sure what they do with it) and sell the cheap stuff. So i sent 2 bags with over 20 items, and got total 25$. I had antik batik dress, anthropologie clothes, jcrew, christian lacroix, etc. and they trashed the expensive (new condition) brand and listed cheap things. I will not send them stuff again, it was very hurtful.
Answer: Because they essentially steal your clothes and then sell them for a profit. You get hardly any payout, but they gladly take all your clothes and sell them for a big mark up.
Answer: Of course buyers are satisfied. They are getting other peoples' brand-name, like-new clothes that has been stolen by ThredUp. Buying from ThredUp just supports their dishonest and shady business practice.
Answer: I almost always sell on eBay first. Then when I don't feel like hanging on to the clothes any more and just want my closet space back and they have been on eBay for months, I will send to thredUP. I don't even send in that high end of items and I will usually get $16 and up per bag. So to me, it's a last resort, but I usually can expect something even if it's a little. I LOVE thredUP for buying. Use their upfront calculator to see what items they take. They will say 50 cents to 1.00 per item so it is not hidden info. There is always the return option where you can get your entire bag back for $12.99 as well. Everyone who has nice stuff they'd want back should opt for this method always.
Answer: They sent me an email and put the money on my thred up account so I can buy something. I was do disgusted I gave up on the whole thing
Answer: Because I sent in 575.00 worth of clothes and recieved 8.00 in credit, half of them had tags still on them and were high priced items. When I asked for proof why they did not take them in they said they had stains on them. I asked for pics because they were brand new, they squirted water on them and took a pic. It takes a couple months to even get your credit and when you buy womens clothes, half the time I was sent stained or childrens sized clothes, TWICE is a much better company.
Answer: Honestly this company is not choosing to accept a lot of product that could easily be listed. I have sent bags and bags, including valuable pieces... cashmere sweaters, high end items of considerable retail cost and relatively recently produced. When questioned I am given the response that the items were not in as good a shape as they wanted them to be. That their buyers should be able to buy perfect product. My take on this is... if it's a 200 dollar cashmere sweater and the purchase price is under 10 dollars, a few pills on the fabric should be a non issue! Period. I question what is going on, frankly, as many do. Too much disappears with no explanation, many bags go into complete reject status. I genuinely am concerned that there is a story here and may become apparent after a while. Only time will tell.
Answer: Not worth it unless you have stuff priced over $40 and can get 40%. There percentages are ridiculous for lower priced clothes. You can order return assurance for about $12 but be prepared to get a bag back with your items stuffed in like garbage. They do not even take the time to fold things nicely even though you pay for this service.
thredUP.com was designed to be an easy and convenient way to buy and sell secondhand clothing.
