thredUP Reviews Summary

ThredUp's reputation is marred by significant customer dissatisfaction, particularly regarding the selling process and customer service. Many users report feeling misled about item valuations and processing times, leading to frustration over perceived exploitation and lack of transparency. While some customers appreciate the variety of products available for purchase, issues such as delays in shipping, inadequate communication, and poor handling of returns overshadow these positives. Overall, the sentiment leans heavily towards disappointment, prompting many to recommend alternative selling methods and express reluctance to engage further with the company.

I was one of those who thought that all the reviews I read were from disgruntled customers... well boy was I wrong. I got scammed! I sent three huge bags and received pennies on the dollar for designer barely used clothes (some brand new). Don't do it,... I suggest donating and using it as a right off.
Also, what they say they take and pay out is a lie. Don't believe it. I followed their guidelines to the T... it's such a scam it's scary. Not sure how they continue to do business.

Terrible pay out
November 25, 2015

I sent in a hugely stuffed bag, and received a mere $20.40 when just one of those items alone sold for that much on their website. No documentation or explanation of which items were rejected either. I make ten times more selling stuff through local for sale sites. Don't waste your time, horrible experience and won't be doing business with them.

Terrible for sellers!
November 25, 2015

Shocked at how little they offered. This was my second time selling and I got offered $4 for a full bag. My previous bag was $36. This time, I sent two new, identical unworn shirts that I couldn't return to the store, in addition to several other items. They accepted only one of the shirts! Who knows what was wrong with the twin shirt. Last time I will sell to them.

SELLERS BEWARE!
November 24, 2015

I was skeptical about selling my clothes online. I saw thredup and I figured I would give it a go. I just got my payout for an, at least, 50lb bag full of goods many of which still had tags. They just gave me $25.69. I sent them hundreds of dollars worth of excellent and good condition items and they ripped me off. Other reviews warned me about their stinginess and I thought surely my belongings would go for much higher. Wrong. Terrible place to sell your clothes. If you want to buy, then fine. Selling? Forget it. You might as well donate your clothes. They'll make you wait over a month to tell you that you're not going to get a fraction of what one of your items cost. Done.

I usually take my clothes I do not wear to Good Will or The Mission, I get a nice write off on my tax return. I sent in mostly new items that had never been worn or barely worn and was sent a message that none of them were able to be used in the store. Some of the items even had tags still attached and the message is below
Thanks for sending your Clean Out bag to thredUP! Unfortunately, we were unable to accept any items from your bag.

Please note that all clothing we accept gets resold to other families. Because these families trust that thredUP only offers top quality clothing, we have to be very strict about the clothing we accept. Our quality specialists are incredibly meticulous and often catch minor signs of wear that are easily missed.

We thank you for trying our Clean Out service and hope you found this information helpful.

Should you want to give thredUP another try, you can learn more about what we accept here.

I carefully went over every item to make sure it was accepted and as I said none was worn out or even worn in. I do not recommend anyone to send in a clean out closet bag to this company.

Disappointed with payback
November 23, 2015

I used to be a huge customer of Thredup. The customer service was beyond satisfactory and the return policy is the best. However, I was shocked at the payouts they would give me for my clothes. My bags had great success with almost all of the items always being sold. One full bag of nearly brand new designer clothes got $2.00!

I am very pleased with my order! It came very fast, and I like everything I ordered! I got a huge discount for my first time ordering so it was exceptionally cheap as well!

Don't use ThredUP, AWFUL
November 20, 2015

I sent a bag filled with designer clothes, some still new with tags and received a measly $11.00. One was a brand new BCBG dress with tags! Another was a new Calypso St. Barth dress, which they didn't even "accept". I'm sure somebody that works there is wearing it. Do NOT use this company, they have gone way downhill. I also tried to use my measly $11, but the site wouldn't accept the 15% off coupon code. I emailed and called them, no response. Don't waste your time with this dump. Do NOT send your clothes to them.

I have purchased many beautiful things from this company for my self and my daughter their prices are on par for the items I've purchased. I have sent 2 bags of clothes to consign all of good quality items even during in season times but what I have been advised is able for resell is much less than what was sent. I wont pay the fee to have unaccepted items returned as the whole process would cost me money in the end then. So again love to shop here not sell.

I sent a bag of excellent quality, designer clothing. I made sure to follow their strict rules about clean items, current styles and made sure the labels I submitted were accepted. In my whole bag of items I received $4.10. I had Top name designer items and all were considered accepted by Thred-Up. Had I kept even one of the items and brought it to consignment or sold online I would have gotten 10 times that amount for just one of the items I sent to ThredUp. They will turn around and make a huge profit on my items. I will never deal with this company again. Submitters beware!

I agree with all of the low stars. They're a ripoff. I do own a consignment shop & I understand they need to make a profit, but this is unacceptable. I have also sent in a bag to test out the company, and I was very disappointed. NWT, accepted brands, and they didn't "accept" it... later to be found on their website.

2016 I will be turning my consignment shop into a website & I hope to see you all there!

Like us on Facebook to check out reviews! I plan on crushing ThredUp, and bring back the real meaning of consignment!

After a month, I finally received a credit for the bag of clothing I submitted to thredUP. I was only compensated on $6.63 for a BRAND-NEW (with tags) Marc Jacobs dress, two BRAND-NEW (with tags) designer swimsuits and a pair of Hudson jeans! Their estimator quoted me $22 at the low-end for the dress alone. I now see my dress listed for $73.99. This company is a total scam and rip-off. You will do better with the tax right-off (donating) or selling your clothes at a garage sale. Either would be more time efficient and profitable.

I don't completely blame them. I blame myself because I figure the cashmere sweaters were a little old so if they couldn't sell them it would be fine to donate them. The Black Armani Suit. The multi color designer dress size 14 (only wore once) The Calvin Grey Suit size 14 almost new. The St. John's shell and all the other stuff they could only sell the Bananna Republic skirt and they valued it at $1.10. Then I got an email saying it sold a week later. Don't do it. I am completly disgusted with ThredUP! I will not purchase or send anything to them ever again! Go to a local consignment shop! Don't use Thredup! You will regret it.

I sent two bags a while ago and it was a great experience. Recently I sent a bag filled with new items recently purchased and they kept them for nothing. Sad to see a business turn into a scam.

I really wish I would have done more research and read these reviews before sending two whole bags of either barley worn or not worn at all clothing. I would have much rather given my clothing to people I know that need them. But thinking thredup would be similar to Twice, I'd get a reasonable return, that I would have most likely just turned around and spent in their store anyway. BOY WAS I WRONG! They deemed one of the items not clean because it had a piece of lint on it. Seriously? I really hope these people go out of business. While I did get a whopping 25 dollars and some change (it seems I made off better than most people complaining) I sent them hundreds of dollars of name brand clothing. Buyers also beware! Buying from them you are screwing the sellers. What a shame.
