thredUP Reviews Summary

ThredUp's reputation is marred by significant customer dissatisfaction, particularly regarding the selling process and customer service. Many users report feeling misled about item valuations and processing times, leading to frustration over perceived exploitation and lack of transparency. While some customers appreciate the variety of products available for purchase, issues such as delays in shipping, inadequate communication, and poor handling of returns overshadow these positives. Overall, the sentiment leans heavily towards disappointment, prompting many to recommend alternative selling methods and express reluctance to engage further with the company.

Thred Up is the WORST!
December 12, 2015

ThredUp is nothing but a RIP OFF! I sent in 24 items, all in pristine condition, varying from 10 to 400$ in cost. They said they only accepted the 8 cheapest items in my bag and paid me 13$ The amount of money I spent on those clothes totaled over 1500$ DO NOT USE!

Do not use thredUP
December 10, 2015

Now for buying maybe its okay but to get rid of your clothes to sell them on consignment is not worth it. Last time I checked with consignment shops you have so many days to sell your items after that they give them back. The consignment shop usually take a profit fom whats sold then gives you a portion. I decided to do this to get some money and apparently I only get a upfront payment. Thats BS. I could have gone to a real consignment shop and actually got money. They are a scam I tell you. A scam.

Stay Away
December 10, 2015

Since Twice close down, ThredUP has been awful. If you wish to sell your J. Crew Collection pants, Citizens of Humanity jeans, and J. Crew jeans for $13 then so be it. Total waste of time and effort. Don't bother. Won't respond to communication either.

I have not had any issues with the site, love everything I have ordered. Selling is ok. I figure since I don't have to drive anywhere and it's stuff I would drop off at Goodwill anyway, it's not so bad. Don't expect a decent payout.

I have sent two polka dot bags into ThredUp, the first being packed full of items that according to their calculator and criteria I could get about $90, and all in all, I got a $72 payout. SO, thinking this was great, I sent my second bag, which was stuffed full with even nicer items than the first... I got a notice that my bag was delayed for processing and had to wait over a month to find out that they would give me a $21 payout and only accepted 5 items out of nearly 20. UNBELIEVABLE. I echo many of the voices on here when saying I truly believe they sold items beyond those that they gave me a payout for, and I will never be sending them anything again.

Crooks!
December 8, 2015

I sent in 31 item. All matched their strict criteria. They listed 10 and gave me less than $10. Those items were listed for around $130. Some of my best pieces (Michael Kors/Max Studios) weren't accepted! I find that hard to believe. Here's the real kicker; they split up a gold metallic Express tube top/ shrug set and only gave me credit for the shrug, but a few weeks later I see the tube top listed separately! These people are crooks! I purchased from them before I decided to do a clean out bag, but I won't do either anymore. I'd rather donate to Purple Heart, and cannot in good conscience buy when I know that they are ripping people off!

Worse than a rip off!
December 5, 2015

All the other revews are more than correct. I sent in three bags of all designer clothes, some even with tags on. I checked every single item to see if they accepted that brand, which they did. Of coursew I got not even $10 for all three bags in total. I sent expensive children's clothes, ladies' clothes. Didn't matter. They claimed they were dirty, staine, soiled etc. Always an excuse even for brand new still with tags on clothes. Mostly they don't even bother to answer emails, unless it is in thier interest to answer them. Go to swap.com or some other place. Salvation army is better than thredup. At least you know the money goes to some place better. I am sure many of the items goes into the thredup workers' pockets.

FRAUD, pure and simple
December 5, 2015

They lead donors to believe they will receive fair compensation for their items, but this is a lie. I checked every brand before sending and should have received at least $200 according to thredUP's "average" payout. Instead I received $13.65. What I sent them shoes and clothes by top designers: Prada, Pedro Garcia, Casadei, Enrico Coveri, IRO.

I sent in a nice bag of maternity clothes and a pair of Minnetonka boots. I followed the guidelines to a T, but it's like they opened the bag and had predetermined they were only taking less than half without giving all the pieces a chance. Plus, I never wore the boots (a gift; too small) yet they were listed for sale on the site as slightly imperfect, not brand new. And their selling price of a t-shirt they accepted? That's what I paid for it in the first place. The original price seemed a bit (lot) inflated. I didn't expect a perfect bag, but I thought it would have yielded a much better payout. I would have rather donated the clothes to our local crisis pregnancy center.

Love shopping here!
December 2, 2015

If you use someone's referral link, you get $20 free, which I did. Luckily I also got free shipping, and continued to share my link with people, giving me $60 worth of high quality clothes, absolutely free. There were no damages, packages arrived quickly, and they fit as described. I didn't have to return any, and I didn't have issues, so I don't know about the customer service aspect, but I am overjoyed with this site!

It was the first time using this website and gave over 30 items, although many were brand new, they claimed there was damage and unable to be sold which was perplexing. The time taken to give the estimate was way beyond scheduled and disappointing as they kept extending the time and in the end it was for mere few dollars and would have been better off giving to others myself than to go thru the hassle of Thred up. I contacted customer service several times and other than a standard email after a week there has been no response, no proper contact number. I will never use the site again, it is a rip off and god only knows what they are doing with the clothes.

II used to absolutely love this site, got some great stuff for my son with my start up credits. The payout when I first started using this site was pretty good. I sent in a bag this month with some great things and the payout was absolutely ridiculous and awfully miniscule. The only reason I didn't give a worse rating is because I usually just drop bags off at Goodwill without getting the donation slip, so I at least got SOMETHING more than if I would have taken the clothes to Goodwill. But quite irritated that I was only able to snag One item of clothing for what I sent in. That's a bit of a rip off for anyone who uses the credits because of, oh I don't know, maybe not having a job...

"Join for Free"
November 28, 2015

I never trust a website that forces me to 'register' or in this case "Join for free" by requiring my email address before I can even view any of their products! I never give them my email address and abandon their site.
Then I check them out on the BBB.org. Thredup.com hasn't had a very good track record, although the BBB raised their rating to A+ because Thredup.com improved their website and added clarity to some of their policies. Now it's only a matter of time to see if they can live up to that rating.
There are way too many Goodwill stores everywhere, it employs local citizens who are trying to get back on their feet financially. Why would you want to support something from the world of the internet that already has a bad rep?

I sent one bag with very nice clothing, a couple of the items still had tags on them. They sent me back a note that none of the items met their standards. What a joke. In the meantime, my items are now in never never land. I complained to their customer service and after the guy told me to mark return on my next items (this was his delusion that I would actually toss them another bag of my good items) he ask me to write him a review about his service. REALLY! Look at their website, if you have hippie wrinkled wear, this if for you. If you are actually looking for a great way to have your nice items put up for consignment - STAY AWAY! If you don't take my advice and actually send them something... elect to have your items returned!
