ThredUp's reputation is marred by significant customer dissatisfaction, particularly regarding the selling process and customer service. Many users report feeling misled about item valuations and processing times, leading to frustration over perceived exploitation and lack of transparency. Horrible payout!
March 12, 2016

I sent in about 12 designer, like new and brand new children's clothing items. I got less than $30. They give only 10% of what THEY sell it for (not even 10% of what you paid for it). We're talking $1.50 for a dress I paid $30 for. Or 50 cents for like-new tees. I can get 3 or 4 times that much at my local consignment store... AND I get to take back what they don't accept. Keep it local! I was also miffed that the consignment item I sent to Thredup never sold, so I got nothing for it. It was a Burberry vest, never worn, and they listed it as having a small stain, which it did not.

I give them two and not one star because they have a great website and do a great job photographing and packaging their items. But their kids selection is pretty disappointing most of the time, and they sometimes make significant errors in the amount they say an item was originally worth ($44 for a Boden onesie?). I think people who have nice well-cared-for hand-me-downs take them somewhere more worthy of their goods.

Awful for selling
March 11, 2016

Its amazing to me how they accepted 8 of my items, with a few of them going for over $60 on the website and being purchased IMMEDIATELY, and I only got $6. I used to use poshmark and I have to say, although it is a bit more work, it is MUCH better for selling clothes. I've made $100+ on poshmark, vs. $6.05 on this terrible website.

UPDATE- after waiting 14 days, I transferred my small fortune of $6.05 to paypal, who promptly took 11%, leaving me with a whopping $5.38 for 8 items.

I just ordered from ThredUp for the 1st time and I am in love. The clothes were in SUCH great condition, super inexpensive, fast shipping and WONDERFUL packaging. I am thoroughly impressed and will keep shopping with them.

Shopping Enabled!
March 11, 2016

I love ThredUp. I only buy already used clothing, and this makes it easy for me to look for very specific items. I use the iPhone app and my regular computer browser. The phone app makes it easy for me to shop in between other commitments, which is great when I don't have time to go to the store.
Returns are easy too.

Use only this site
March 9, 2016

I love this site. Every item is properly marked with details so I can make the best choice for me. No other site provides this type of detail so I suggest this site to everyone I know.

I am two months postpartum and was searching for a bunch of new clothes to update my work wardrobe since I return to work next week. I didn't want to spend a ton of money on a wardrobe that wouldn't fit me in a few months after I lost the baby weight, but ThredUp was a great alternative. I found many pieces to help me out in the interim and I'm looking forward to wearing them. The only negative I think this site has is that it rarely provides coupon codes (unless you're a brand new customer.) I understand the stuff is already second-hand, but most people like to save as much money as possible. That being said, it's a great company still!

Selling experience:
It seems a lot of people who have sold here have tried to consign top shelf things and were disappointed with the returns. I've sent in regular stuff (like Gap, Kohls, Macy's) and I have been happy with the money I've gotten for them (which would have been none otherwise). If I was looking for a profit, I wouldn't sell it through a consignment venue and just sell direct.

Purchasing:
I primarily buy blouses, athletic wear, and casual dresses. I've been extremely lucky with these. I've also purchased some pants, but I wouldn't only recommend this if you're a standard size or if you know what brands/styles you generally fit.

I've purchased from them a few times. On two of those purchases, I was entitled to apply 10% discount codes. Each time I applied the discounts, it was not reflected in my total balance. And, they charged the full amount to my credit card both times! I had to contact them to ask for the discount and then wait a week for my account to be credited. I'm not used to receiving discounts that way...

I sent in 2 coach bags to see if they could sell them on consignment. I had good luck with another bag, so I thought I would try again. WRONG! I got an e-mail notification that they received my bag and the approximate date it would be processed. That date came and I got another e-mail stating they needed more time. After looking at my account it says the bag was processed but there was nothing in the consignment. I did request that if they would not accept my items to send back to me for the $12.99 fee. I e-mailed and asked them to look into my bag. I received an e-mail today stating that they sent me an e-mail asking for the $12.00 payment and because they didn't hear back from me within 7 days - they "recycled" my two Coach bags. Are you kidding me! First, I NEVER got an e-mail asking for the $12.99. Second, they only waited 7 days to give away or whatever they did to two Coach bags. I will NEVER send them anything again after this experience. The only e-mails I ever got was them stating they needed more time to process my bag because they were backed up.

I love thredup because I can buy nice, high end clothing for a fraction of the retail price! I like how I can narrow items down by brand new- not everything is necessarily used. And even the items that are are gently used. They specify any wear the product may show. Wonderful shopping site!

Never mind the bad experience selling my clothes to them. I used my credit to buy a dress. Size Large. I am a Medium but didn't want to take a chance on it being tight from shrinkage. When I received the dress it wouldn't even fit a small child. They don't look at what they are selling. Big scam to make THEM money. I would have been happier donating my clothes to people who could benefit from them without trying to profit from ripping people off.

Seller
March 4, 2016

I have sent in three bags, and just heard the results from bag one. I made over $165 on the upfront payout and have $157 in potential consignment earnings. I am very pleased. I sent in very high quality clothes (primarily Theory). I've read a few complaints that seem to be not be based in fact. People always value their belongings higher, and sorry no one wants your used NY & Co slacks... You also have to consider the level of effort that goes into selling items on Ebay or hauling them to multiple consignment shops.

I just completed the Mario Kondo method of decluttering, so I was happy to get rid of my excess belongings. I was going to donate anyways, so I thought why not try this.

I would highly recommend to my friends and family.

I used to LOVE Thredup, LOVE. But the last time I shipped a bunch of clothes to them they barely accepted any of it. I previously sold to them so I thought I knew what brands/quality they were looking for, but apparently they've become much pickier. Also the payout is very small. They do have a nice selection of clothing/sizes. So check them out if you're in the market for buying used clothes/shoes/bags. I especially like their kids clothes (can get cheaper though at local consignment).

Buy and Sell
March 2, 2016

I just made my first purchase from Thredup and am awaiting the arrival of my item. My main experience has been to request a clean out bag. My experience with selling items to Thredup has been great! I sent a couple of items that were not purchased. Just out of curiosity I wished I had known why to maybe prevent the situation in the future. Overall, no complaints, and I plan to continue to sell and purchase from Thredup.

Thred up has gotten extremely picky and stingy when buying stuff from you. Clothes have to be practically off the rack brand new and high end for them to consider it. And then they literally give you pennies on the dollar. They used to be so much better accepting things, but I won't even bother any more. Not worth it. I'd rather give it away than get ripped off. They are crooks.
However, I've bought some nice designer items in the past at halfway decent prices.
I just don't recommend selling your stuff to them.

I sent in my first big polka dot bag. Im a size 12-14, and saw that most items are 2-4. I did pretty well, they accepted 85%. I was surprised by the returns (I asked them to return). They were what I thought were the best items. I should be the person accepting products! I have to say that some of my items were worth more than posted and some were posted more than expected. I don't think some of the folks that are posting prices really know brands. For'
Example, a cashmere
Turtleneck was bought for $250+, but sold for under $20, because it wasnt a well know brand, but incredibly a good cashmere. I understand because it's not a well known brand, unless you understand cashmere. But, overall, it's a great place to sell well-known brands. If you are buying... know that they only accept new or hardly-worn items.

Buying my fave brands
February 24, 2016

I get a clothing subscription box once a month- but I am finding the brands offered there on thredup for way less! I search for the brands that I know how they fit- and have made several orders and have never been disappointed!

I was hoping I would have a similar experience to Like Twice, which was awesome and fair. NOT SO! ThredUp will sell your clothing before you even okay it. I had originally included having my items returned on the form. They offered me $9 for the items they did accept and sold them for nearly $80... hmm, does that sound fair? I understand they need to make a profit but that is ludicrous. They rejected a lot of brand name barely worn items that I'm sure would have been sold as well - I would probably have gotten $200 if I sold everything myself on Ebay... SELLERS BEWARE! This company will not treat you right. I am so disgusted I will not buy from them either. I used to refer people to LIKE Twice all the time but I WARN them about ThredUp. I will be surprised if this company lasts long. You can't bite the hand that feeds you and expect to stay well-fed.
