thredUP Reviews Summary

ThredUp's reputation is marred by significant customer dissatisfaction, particularly regarding the selling process and customer service. Many users report feeling misled about item valuations and processing times, leading to frustration over perceived exploitation and lack of transparency. While some customers appreciate the variety of products available for purchase, issues such as delays in shipping, inadequate communication, and poor handling of returns overshadow these positives. Overall, the sentiment leans heavily towards disappointment, prompting many to recommend alternative selling methods and express reluctance to engage further with the company.

DO NOT USE THIS SITE. I sent in a bag FULL of clothes on the beginning of January, it's now the END OF MARCH and I have not received any notice of it arriving. I've left 5 voicemails and emails and I've gotten NO response. HORRIBLE customer service. I bought items and was decently happy with them, but I just do not trust them after this. What a rip off!

I used thred up for the first time a few years ago. My daughter has a lot of nice clothes that she barely wears. I would send in items they accept, get a decent (not good, decent) credit. The reimbursement I have received for recently sent in itmes is significantly lower than before. I will never use thred up again. I just purchased something with my credit and I'm done! They give you peanuts for your nice items. You would be better off selling them on Craigslist or eBay. Personally, I am going to donate my itmes from now on rather than deal with this company.

I've never actually bought an item off Thredup, but I sent in a huge bag of clothing and specifically made sure it was all items they would accept. They then chose four items and proceeded to sell them on their site for around $45 total. I received $4 for my clothing... so under 10% of what they're actually going to be making off of me. Basically don't do it.

Ripoff
March 21, 2016

Do not send your clothes here! They rip you off so bad. They make 25 times, at least, compared to what they pay you. You could sell one item on Craigslist and make more than the huge bag you mail them!

Thredup has a huge selection of gentle used clothes at an array of prices. Brand names isn't my thing but I can still find well priced clothes on Thredup for a fraction of the price of retail. I have never had a problem with any order that I have made through Thredup. I have never sold on the site so can't speak on that end. Definitely would recommend.

In the last year, my payments have gone down. I use to get $30-40 on my bags and now I am getting $3-9 on the same amount of items. They are making huge profits on my items and the process has gone down hill. I am hoping that whatever they don't take is atleast getting donated. Codes for discounts expired too soon for sellers. Not happy as I use to be with the site!

Rip off! I sent clothes to consign. They sent back & said they couldn't take any of my name brand items (did the $12.99 return). When I went through the bag, many of my items were missing. Will never do business with them again.

SO DISSAPOINTED
March 19, 2016

DO NOT SEND YOUR ITEMS TO THRED UP. I sent about 15 items to them and I received $7 dollars fo everything. I was more upset about the fact that I could have sold my clothes on another site and made much more. I even sent clothes with the price tag still on which the site said was better and it did not make a difference. I would not recommend this site to my worst enemy. SO ANNOYED.

Shame on me for not researching reviews on thredUP before sending in items to sell as my experience is similar to those posted here. I sent a pair of Brighton Shoes $250 worn once with no visible wear. They posted them for $49 and sold them immediately. Brighton Bag >$300 they claimed it had scratches and crack so deemed it unacceptable and recycled it. I guess you need a high powered magnifying glass to see these as they were NOT visible to me or I would NOT have sent to them. I also made the mistake not paying $12.99 to have my unacceptable items returned. I read the comment from a former employee that they resell recycled items so am guessing they are reselling my bag with those of others here that have posted. I will NEVER do any business with this company. I have learned my lesson and will donate regionally to my local consignment shop. Shame on you threadup!

Walk on by just horrible I sent in a *brand new un worn* pair of $48 Black Kamik boots straight from Zappos in box (that we forgot to return, same ones being sold at Zappos but mine were a sold out color) and a *never worn* still being sold on line by Vans in the same colorway pair of $45 dollar sneakers, a vintage collectable 70's Laura Ashley (Wales) blouse that I'd miscalculated the UK size conversion. So was buying ahead for my daughter but a bit too small, so she worn it once for an hour ( mind you big bidding war on Ebay to get it) and 20 people watching the item. I stupidly made the mistake of not choosing Thredup's return option. They did not accept the blouse (not sure why as it was w/o any flaws and it had sold for double it's list price and had they checked ebay could have seen what it had just been sold for. The boots and sneakers were tried on by my daughter for 5 minutes on a rug, boxes in pristine condition. For all three items what we received was $9. Truly a rip off and pretty unconscionable, thought it sounded too good to be true, it is. I would recommend NEVER putting anything on consignment with them, ever. The only reason I chose the don't return option, was that both the boots and sneakers were brand spanking new, and the blouse is totally hot at the moment so was convinced they would take them. I thought consigning with Thredup.com would be easier than making a trip to my local consignment store. Boy was I wrong. The luxury consignment store down the street that I have a great relationship with always takes almost everything I bring in, sells 95% of what I consign at a few notches off full purchase to half price, and a few times actually about what I have paid for it if it's Boden, Tea Collection etc. So this was a shocking experience. One thing I am not quite sure about is that many of the items they have for sale sometimes look tired. And mine were brand spanking new, both the Vans and boots were still being sold by Vans and Zappos. My husband's theory is that someone at the company on the intake end, probably wanted a deal and certainly got one. My husband's quip was: "You should be shopping there, instead of consigning there."

I've always had good shopping experiences with thredUP. I feel like the items I've purchased were described accurately, and I bought them at bargain price. I've never had to return an item. I will continue to use thredUP.

Wouldnt recommend giving them your clothes to sell. I sent a total of 18 items- Brand New items, some designer items, all high end and received $69 for the lot. I see that they sold one pair of my pants for $60.00. Really bad pay-out structure. Will not use them again. Will take the time myself to sell on Tradesy!

ThredUp, why is it so difficult to get anybody to respond back when there is an issue?

I've been shopping with them for a while. I've gotten some great deals on designer clothes, shoes and handbags. I do not recommend selling to them as you will get hardly anything back. Tried that once and was so disappointed with the incredibly low payment to sellers that I never did it again. However, I do continue to buy from them from time to time so that I have a professional wardrobe without having to spend tons of money at a retail store, spend hours combing racks for sale prices or scouring thrift stores. Thredup has definitely saved me time and money.

HOWEVER - it's always such a pain to get help from customer service that it has really tainted my reviews! Whenever there's been an item missing or an item not as described, it is a pain in the a** to get anybody to respond to you. I often have to reach out through several venues, email, Facebook, etc often receiving canned replies that go nowhere. I've had to resort to submitting a complaint through the better Business bureau on occasion to get any kind of results.

DOOOONT DOOOO IT!
March 14, 2016

This company is THE WORST! I worked for them for 8 months! They are a scam! They take donations and sell them and all the item that are to bad to sell they sell anyway! They give you BOTTOM DOLLAR for your great clothing I seen them give 20$ for a Gucci bag and sold it for 700$! The system is set up to make a 100% return on their investment! This company won't last for too much longer as long you don't purchase or sale! They pray on new customers and new sellers! Without them they would go out of business! Please take this as your warning!

If you are trying to make money on your kids outgrown new clothes don't use this site. I made $4 on some terrific items. Instead give your clothes to Schoola and support your kids school at least. Or bring them to a consignment shop that gives you 40 or 50 percent of the sale price. In New Jersey try the red balloon. I was soooo disappointed and angry with thred up, I almost threw up.
