thredUP Reviews Summary

ThredUp's reputation is marred by significant customer dissatisfaction, particularly regarding the selling process and customer service. Many users report feeling misled about item valuations and processing times, leading to frustration over perceived exploitation and lack of transparency. Sold a dozen items - including a few new with tags - and received less than $30. These were sent over 6 months ago and were in processing for at least 5 months I've had better results on other sites like Poshmark or EBay. And if your only getting $1 for an item - I'd rather donate.

RIP OFF
March 19, 2023

I USED THRED UP TO SALE A LOT OF STUFF AND I ONLY RECEIVED $15.00 Dollars. I SHOULD HAD DONATED THE STUFF! I COULD HAD GOT A TAX WRITE OFF! THEN THERE WAS SOME THINGS THAT WAS STILL LISTED THAT I NEVER RECEIVED ANY MONEY FOR THOSE ITEMS.

I both bought and sold clothing on Thredup. On the buying end, I've had great luck purchasing clothing and shoes. The description of the condition of the clothing is accurate but the sizing is usually way off. If I know the brand I disregard their size estimate. As a seller, I'm less than satisfied. It takes forever for a clean out kit to be sorted & listed. A kit that I sent in June was finally listed on March 3rd. One of the items is an expensive dress. It has been reserved in someone's cart since it was listed. I'm guessing they're holding on to it until the price goes down. I know when I put things in my cart there is usually a time limit of an hour or two before it's up for sale again. I contacted customer service because there's no information about 'reserved items'. I received a snippy response about clean out kit turn around times. From now on I'll buy from Thredup but I'll use my local consignment shop for selling and thrift stores for donating my clothes.

They suck now
March 17, 2023

They have clearly changed how they size things but refuse to answer emails, I have sent 5 over the last 2 months and crickets. They don't give a rats $#*! about their customers. Save your money. I can't add proof of purchase here because they never email acknowledging an order. They process order for several days and then once they ship, which you pay 10.99 for, it takes a full week to come. Usps eould be cheaper and faster but they don't care.

Never again!
March 15, 2023

First 2 items that I ever ordered from them were a big fat fail! 1st one has 2 bright red stains on the front that were not disclosed in description. I will have to throw in trash, can't decide if it's blood or marker. 2nd item was described as a Blouse. It's a light weight jacket! Customer service was no help at all. Waste of money! Deleted app, no more thred up for me!

Clothing not up to par
March 11, 2023

I've ordered twice from this company and I have to say the clothing is not in barely used condition. Most look are either stained or show signs of fading. They definitely overcharge too. You're better off going to Marshall's or TJ Maxx. At least you'd get brand new clothing in unused condition. If you are going to buy from there, wait until they have a big sale because the clothes ARE NOT worth the price. It also takes mors than two weeks for you to get your order too.

Looking for a way to resell clothes, I turned to Thredup instead of my usual local shops. They charge a premium for returns of unaccepted clothes and for 1 month turnarounds instead of 3+ month turnarounds. Since the clothes I was selling were spring appropriate and I didn't want to delay an extra 3+ months I added the rush fee.

Only three of eight accepted items were sold by the time limit. As a result I now owe Thredup $30. I would have been better off donating these clothes. What's worse, the items that didn't sell are still sitting on their site without any promise of money back to me, the clothing owner. The process for reclaiming unsold items (adding them to your cart by the time limit) does not work. Items just show up in your cart at the full price.

Lastly, Thredup's customer service is non existent. There is a chatbot that filters you to FAQs, an email inbox that never results in a reply, and a phone number that goes to a voicemail. I've been trying to get in touch during business hours for over two weeks.

Bottom line, I do not recommend Thredup to any serious sellers. Stick with other sites or your local shops. If you do send your items in, accept it's just a donation and might even put you in the hole financially for doing this good deed.

Not worth it!
March 10, 2023

I purchased 5 pair of brand name shorts. The only one which I can wear has bleach dots on it and rust wear at the hem. It will cost me more to return them than I paid for them. $3.99 each item return fee plus $10.99 if I want one of their return labels. Give this site a pass!

Cost to restock is $4. Cost to ship back a pair of shoes is $11. It cost me $15 to return the shoes. Ridiculous. Will NEVER buy from them again.

I bought a Vera Bradley handbag that was brand new with tags attached from Thredup. They charged $112.99. I know Vera Bradley is expensive, which is why I thought it was maybe a reasonable price. I received it, and it's actually a tiny little bag. The attached tag said it originally cost $45! They more than doubled the original MSRP! They make handbags final sale items, so it's not like I can return it. After this experience, I doubt I will buy from them again! They are price gouging. They're corrupt!

Terrible experience
March 8, 2023

I made the mistake of ordering some pieces from ThredUp and was charged $3.99 per piece as a restocking fee. I don't know any other company that charges this much for restocking, and you must also pay for the return shipping. Essentially I paid them to try on 4 pieces of clothing that didn't work. Never again.

A couple of years before the Pandemic, I cleaned out my closet and finally packed up a bunch of modest and high-end clothes to sell with ThredUp. I wound up earning a lame credit. I believed that I would get paid for my clothes. Fast forward to the present...I purchased four pairs of pants off of their site. I received them 2 days ago. The fit and style (which you really can't decipher from their bizarre white background & photographed on ill-fitting-mannequin-body-parts photos) are awful. I went back on their site to initiate a return and, low and behold, they charge a return fee for every item. The descriptions of the clothes are inadequate. I have pants I can't or won't wear and ThredUp makes it too difficult to return the items. I find their business practices deplorable.

Terrible
February 27, 2023

I purchased four blouses and they were scheduled to be delivered a week ago. They are still not here. Customer service told me that I should continue to wait (as if I have nothing better to do). They did not provide a solution. They asked me to reach out in a few days. Returnd/refund is a nightmare.

Didn't send my package
February 24, 2023

It has been over 3 weeks since I got a notification that my package would be shipping in 3-6 business days. When I sent an email asking what the status was, I got an email a day later saying I would be getting a refund because the package was mislabeled by their system. So now I don't get my package because of an error on their end after waiting 3+ weeks. At least I get a refund. Won't be ordering from them again.

DO NOT BUY ANYTHING HERE
February 21, 2023

DO NOT BUY ANYTHING (ESPECIALLY PANTS) HERE. If you think you are getting something super cute, it usually turns out a totally different fit and size then you wanted. For example, I bought mom jeans, but ended up with some super ugly and unflattering skinny jeans that were not even the size I asked for. So learn from my mistake and DO NOT BUY PANTS HERE!
It also smells like shii

Not worth it anymore
February 17, 2023

They now charge $14.99 for processing the items you send them. Since they pay very little, it doesn't make any sense to sell through them anymore, you'd probably lose money.
Also, after reading other reviews, I checked myself and realized that they keep selling items that have "expired" instead of donating them, so that they still make money on them but you get nothing.
It is much easier to donate to Goodwill and take a tax deduction and it makes more financial sense.

A fraud!
February 17, 2023

When this company first started, it was simply amazing. I found it during the pandemic when I couldn't shop anywhere else. I've been a loyal customer for a few years now. This last order has made me never ever want to shop with this company again. First off I have tried to contact their customer service numerous times with no response. I even chatted with someone but then ended up not getting what they had promised me. Bottom line my return was excepted by them, but never credited to my credit card! I also received four items that were torn. I've tried contacting them over and over again I finally got a hold of somebody who was able to help me with two of the items. Their total was 3995 but I was only refunded 1350. Where is my money? Two other items I had supposedly bTheir total was 3995, but I was only refunded 1350. Where is my money? Two other items I had supposedly been refunded for never has shown up anywhere. This company is not trustworthy. Do not give them your money or your donations.

Poor
February 16, 2023

This company was good a few years ago now they charge you $15 for "standard processing" of a clean out kit, although you are only making $1-$2 per item that they are selling and already making a huge profit off of you. Take your stuff elsewhere
