Many users report feeling misled about item valuations and processing times, leading to frustration over perceived exploitation and lack of transparency. Ordered clean out 2 kits, loaded up with my items and sent back with their prepaid label. But beware!1st bag sent February finally processed May, I'm being charged $17.98 shipping fee so items sold go towards that charge before you make any money! 1st kit I've sold 4 items out of 13 sent so I'm in the red. 2nd kit sent February, processed April, has $14.99 shipping charges.I've sold 9 out of 13 items but only made $10.83 which I can't have because it's applied to that shipping charge!

I do love thrifting but
May 21, 2023

It feels like prices really went up on this site. Some of the selection is large and every once in awhile I can still find a deal. But I will say I have noticed quite a few items more expensive then the original price bought new. Also the swimwear is way too pricey and not a good selection. Fortunately I have a ton of thrift stores near me with way better bargains IRL. After all I can try the items on to make sure fit is right and on the site you cant do that and they charge a restocking fee.
On cleaning out your closet. It seems like a great idea to make a little cash but the cash you get is like pennies... really just a few cents for the items you sell. Not really worth it in my opinion. I rather just donate to the Salvation Army which is an organization that gives back to the community with addiction programs and homeless programs... so much more worth it in the long run for the community.

I did use. Their clean out kit below sent 2 full bags of clothes with. A ton of slightly used kids clothes which I feel can sell pretty easily but a majority of the things I sent. They did not pay out on. And many of the items in the pic I got like 35 cents etc... A couple of items were bought with tags but not used and I got a couple of dollars on that.

They listed my $300 never worn (but no label) Lee Anderson Kimono for $23.99 and my payout IF it's not returned will be $4.08. Payouts of $1.00 - $5.00 are not worth the effort.

I have successfully purchased tops from them, but frustratingly pant inseams are always wrong and I've never kept any pants.

I've made a handful of orders over the past 5 years. I always end with at least 1-2 items that are grossly misrepresented. Either in inferior condition than as described and/or completely mis-measured. And some items have such a stench from whatever they spray in their warehouses they still smell terrible months later. Maybe forever at this point. The smell is not budging. When you ask for a return for their mistake, they give you store credit that you have to spend again. That is our money, your mistake, refund us correctly! I have complained a couple times and got my money back completely, but it's a pain in the butt to go through that. So I have waited for their free shipping sales to order a single item instead of reaching the ridiculous $79 minimum. If you want a single item otherwise, you have to pay $11 shipping. Absolutely unreasonable. I just made my final order of a new with tags item on sale (to avoid yet again another misrepresentation error on their part) to use up my store credit, and I will never shop there again. Only buy things on sale if you do order, and nothing less than "excellent" condition (but don't have your hopes up that they will look like new). Their prices are ridiculous for second hand without the sales and they misrepresent quality to make it worse.
Edit: after reading other reviews, don't even bother returning unless you can prove and complain to them that the items were misrepresented. They didn't charge me for my returns and thank god for that, because their return fees are insane.

So I cannot speak as to selling my clothes through this company but when it comes to making a purchase I ordered all excellent items and that is exactly what I received! I needed a couple of Calvin Klein blazers and Ann Taylor work dresses and I made sure to order the excellent quality that says it comes brand new and that's exactly how the material came! Completely true to description. The only thing I will say is I did not read the description for a final sale item so I did not know the material before purchasing, but everything else was perfect! Ordered 6 items and keeping all 6 items! The packaging was also so cute and I ordered everything 8 days ago and it came pretty fast for standard shipping!

Shipping issues!
May 14, 2023

I have had decent luck with thredUP but recently had a large purchase left at my door in the pouring rain. I was away and had checked estimated shipping before I left. It was totally wrong…estimated 5 days, it must have arrived the day I left. 3 of the 5 garments were totally destroyed. Amazon ships in plastic bags that protect this from happening. They were fine about the return, it was just a terrible waste.

I've purchased from them... I think once before. I did a bundle order and it's apparently stuck somewhere and I can't get any help. Absolutely my last time ordering from them. There are WAY too many other options to waste time and money with this company.

Horrible return procedures! DO NOT ORDER FROM THEM! If something does not work, they will charge you to return and also make you pay the $15 in shipping.

I've sold $4,000 worth of clothes and handbags on Thredup. When I first began selling with them in 2018, they were highly reputable. Processed received items quickly and carefully. Now, they have lost (misplaced, stole) a brand new designer wallet, brand new designer coat, and three couture gowns over the past two years. This is unacceptable. And I'm not including the See by Chloe new coat and two dresses that they finally admitted to misplacing. They gave me only $95 for all of them, and that's only after I threatened litigation. I mailed a brand new Athleta long down coat in December 2022, and they've yet to process it. We're behind, they reply. By 5 months? That's not a delay, that's a very poor business plan or process, if not worse. A company I once highly recommended to my friends. I now declare clearly: stay away. Do not sell to them or buy from Thredup.

They are an online consignment shop. Every previous consignment place I've done business with the proceeds were split 40/60 or maybe 30/70 but thredup most items it's 4% that means for every dollar the individual gets 4¢ and thredup keeps 96¢. Also if you read the fine print (see picture) they have literally thousands of brands that are too inexpensive for them to bother with paying the owner anything but not too inexpensive for them to sell and keep the money. Don't believe me? Check out consignment 101 for brands that they basically steal from ppl. Don't send anything to them, just post your clothes as a lot. You'll make much more money. Including a pic of my recent clean outs. These were 30 pound ones too and I only made 38¢ this is without return assurance, that's ridiculous thredup is getting greedy..

Ordered three items. One skirt was way too much worn-condition, stretched waist band, and faded. One tank top was totally ripped inside the shelf bra which provide no support as a bra top. Worse than Goodwill. Don't they check the items before listing? You can't trust their item description and condition. I'm in the process of asking for refund. Will see how long it will take, or if I can even get my monty back. NOT RECOMMENDED!

I have bought a few items in the past and was ok with what I received although not as good condition as listed. The last 2 purchases were completely dissapointing. Listed as excellent no signs of wear but when I finally got them which took over 2 weeks the jeans were clearly worn out. I can use them for yardwork that's it. I love consignment shopping. I don't expect brand new but these should have never been listed or sold. Not the first time it's happened but will be the last. They have lost my business.

On April 18,2023, I ordered three summer kimonos from ThredUp. On April 29, I received an email that one of the kimonos was "no longer available...unable to be located or found to have quality issues." On April 30, I received a second email stating that another kimono in my order was also unavailable for the same reasons (generic email sent both times). Both emails stated a refund would be processed. My order finally shipped on April 30 and arrived on May 4.

In summary, my overall impression of ThredUp is not great. Their website times you once you place an item in your cart and if you do not purchase quickly, items might disappear from your cart - after you have spent a lot of time wading through screen after screen of "questionable" items to find a quality item. After you make the purchase, it takes almost 3 weeks to receive your order. Meanwhile, you are getting emails from ThredUp trying to convince you to purchase more items while waiting for your order to be shipped. Why not send a person's order immediately and make them so happy they come back for a repeat purchase? I know that by delaying my order, then not finding 2 of the 3 items I ordered is NOT a way to garner customer loyalty. I have since read a slew of bad reviews from buyers and sellers alike and will probably not order from this site again - I'll go with Poshmark, which has never had these types of issues or poor business practices. This makes me wonder about the sellers of the 2 lost kimonos and if they were ever paid for their items. Based on all the bad reviews I've read, probably not. At this point, I have one "okay" kimono and have my fingers crossed that the promised refunds will be processed. Lesson learned - no more ThredUp for me.

It's unfortunate but this company has absolutely no one available for customer service. Packages have been lost in the mail and I've lost my money (almost $100). I've emailed, spoken to the shipping company that they use, which they state they will contact ThredUP. My clean up bag took 3 years for them to go through and post. Things have definitely changed with this company. It's a shame as I've referred over 30 people to this company. I do not want this to happen to them or anyone else so I will make them all aware.

Awful
May 2, 2023

Terrible. Sent a cleanout, it took them 5+ months to process, and they only listed half the items. The rejected items were in season, designer labels, and in excellent to new with tags condition. I didn't get the return assurance because I was confident they would be accepted. Big mistake. And I'm pretty sure one of the rejected items is actually on the site but not as one of my items.

I both buy a4nd consign at Thread Up. I have found brand new with tags for clothing. I only buy excellen to new with tags quality. The variety is endless. Consigning is not great and I am lucky to get a dollar when I consign. I use it to clean out but never to make money. Their payouts are ludicrious. They also proicess very slowly and at a huge price. I have to pay to have them $15 to $23 per bundle.

Buying; A+

Consigning; F-

I ordered 2 Namebrand Handbag rescue boxes, after watching several Instagram unboxings. I saw people getting very good brands and bags in very good shape. How come the ones I get (not an instagram influencer) were absolute garbage. All were in terrible condition, so bad that i couldnt even donate them. They went to the trash. I received a Dooney & Bouke that had saturated with Hawaiian punch and was so worn on the bottom it was unreal. I seriously cant believe I was sent these. Buyer beware, do NOT BUY Rescue boxes!

You cannot cash out and get your money. You cannot add your bank account and your paypal account cannot be accessed. No one from customer service will contact you because they want you to end up only being able to use your money as a credit on merchandise.

Gross gross gross!
April 16, 2023

The jacket I ordered was listed in good used condition. It had an odor, was pilling to the point of actual strings coming from it, and had filthy cuffs. I wouldn't even put it in the Good Will box. First and last purchase from this company. Yuck.
