ThredUp's reputation is marred by significant customer dissatisfaction, particularly regarding the selling process and customer service. Many users report feeling misled about item valuations and processing times, leading to frustration over perceived exploitation and lack of transparency. While some customers appreciate the variety of products available for purchase, issues such as delays in shipping, inadequate communication, and poor handling of returns overshadow these positives. Overall, the sentiment leans heavily towards disappointment, prompting many to recommend alternative selling methods and express reluctance to engage further with the company.

I sold 9 items and after shipping received $3 items didn't sell and those would have been the most profitable. They do not give you enough of your the profit to make it worth the hassle. Save yourself the headache and donate your goods instead.
I have ordered from this company recently and was sent an item that was clearly not the same color as the picture ( soft pink vs flourescent) Sadly, they haven't followed up via email. Also, two of the items were shrunk from the original size. BUYER BEWARE, as 1 of the 3 items is non-returnable. I really want to like this company, but will not be using them because they failed to 1) advertise correctly 2) follow through 3) you get charged for each return. SO in the end, you might as well buy elsewhere or new.
I do not recommend sending your clothes to thredup. They give your clothes a very short period of time to sell. If they do not sell in that time frame, you must elect to have them sent back to you or take the "cents" that they will pay out. Most people will opt for them to keep and donate. However, they will keep the clothes and sell at a higher price for longer period of time. Which means, I receive advertisements about the clothes I essentially donated to them.
I bought a beautiful red vintage jacket on thredUP.
Great Service! Great Price! Great Packaging! A plus!
I love the idea of ThredUp, I really do... HOWEVER, the fact that I have to pay a $3.99 restocking fee PER ITEM is insane. Also, if you want your actual money back, be ready to fork up $10.99 to return it.
I totally understand wanting to save some money but when I return 4 items and lose out on $30? That's when the ball is dropped for me.
Not to mention you get very little for the clothes you send in to sell (and that's if ONLY it sells within a certain time frame). And also, waiting two months to even hear back about the clothes you sent isnormally, just FYI.
It's not worth it and I'll be sure to only "thrift" in person from now on.
I do have negatives about this company, but it's the best idea. Just need to share more percentages to their sellers for the good merchandise that's sent to them.
Threadup has a policy that if they don't sell the item in a determined time, the item will become their property if you don't claim it back. After some time they sold my prada bag and kept the money saying it was their property!
I send them a box of gently used clothing & shoes in March. There were 18 items in total. 1st of all, they took 2 full months to even unpack the box. I would get a sporadic email that some of my items had sold and I could redeem for cash or use toward future purchases from them. After selling 6 of my items, my entire payout was $1.64. I called them and they claimed the other sales as administrative fees. They were sorry I was "disappointed" and I told them they should be embarrassed. They are legitimate thieves!
They sent me the wrong dress, nothing like the picture. I reached out to them via messages in the app to inform them of this. Its been months now and no one has reached out to me to correct this issue. No where can you get someone to talk to. You're practically spending your money on a prayer, because you don't have anyone at this company if something goes wrong to talk to. It's the blatant refusal to communicate with customers that annoys me most. And their prices I believe is a bit shifty. Do your research before you purchase an item. But other than that I have no problem.
After this purchase, I am never ever going back to them ever again. The service and taking advantage of their customers is disgusting. I ordered 3 clothing from them on 5/17/23 and on 6/05/23 it finally show delivered but to my old address which was a apartment complex in denver co. So I called and emailed them they still hadnt got back to me. Fedex sucks but was told its their fault the shipping label says my ca address. Its a mess! Thankfully the manager at the apartment was helpful and has the package. People should stay away from this website so they hoard the mountains of designer stuff. I dont even trust them if the clothing they sent is listed bc ppl mentioned the sizing is wrong.
Used to be this was an easy outlet to consign and donate clothes with, send ins you a pre posted bag, serviced in a timely fashion and although payouts were never greaaaaat, it was easy and smooth enough to be worth it. Not anymore. Don't even bother trying to send your stuff in. They no longer send a bag, you have to find your own and print your own label (not a huge deal in the grand scheme of things but not easy when you live in a city with no printer and no car), they take like 3 months to process your bag, barely accept any pieces - they're only accepting name brands now, and they're charging a $14.99 fee that if you don't sell more than the fee, you have to keep sending more things until you sell enough to cover the fee and only then you'll start making money. For reference, they accepted 4 items in my last bag (out of over 50 sent), only sold one pair of baby vans and I only made $1.68. But not really! Because I would have to keep sending more things in hopes that eventually I'll make money? Honestly theft. Not worth it, better to sell at consignment stores in person.
I sent them 6 articles of clothing, only 4 were displayed on their site (I have no idea where the other 2 other items vanished too). The 4 items displayed were sold, yet I never received reimbursement (which is pennies on the dollar). This has been since January 2023. There is no customer service #, just an email which they never respond to. I had to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. Run…don't walk away from these scammers!
There is ZERO customer service & NO way to communicate with this company. I sent them a full box of name brand clothing with store tags & received less than $24. I then had to pay a fee to transfer my funds through one of the two sites THEY ACCEPT. Decided to sell my remaining clothing via a garage sale & made over $200 in two days. You may believe they'll make you cash for your belongings, but take my word for it, don't waste your time. Sell them yourself & enjoy your profits. Still trying to get my $24. This site demands you use two outside sites to get your money & only after you log onto your bank & give them your personal information. Same with trying to get them to send the money to my credit card. If you refuse to share your financial information within 30 days, the money is returned to ThredUP. What a deal. What happened to sending customers refunds via checks? Guess they would lose too much $$ that way. Are they even legit? Scammers from another country? This only gets worse. STAY AWAY FROM THIS RIP OFF COMPANY. YOU WON'T GET ANY MONEY FOR THEM SELLING YOUR STUFF, BUT YOU MAY GET YOUR IDENITY & ASSETS STOLEN. BTW, you'll get charged.25 to go through PayPal for your money from ThredUP (cheapest choice) & another $1.50 for PayPal to send your money to you.
I have been a Thredup customer since it first began. As it changed ownership and got bigger it continually got worse. First, you get virtually nothing back when you sell your clothes with them -- brand new designer clothes and bags get virtually nothing in return. Second, you now have to pay them for shipping and every item you decide to return (it used to be free). Their points system is a total joke too -- you have to get over a hundred points just to get essentially nothing in return. It is sad because I loved Thredup and used to advertise it to all my friends and relatives. Now, I tell everyone to avoid it and explain how it continues to change for the worse.
I'm not sure what they did with the clothes I sent, but I never saw a penny and they were good quality. Sell your things on consignment or donate them instead!
The concept is great, however, when clothes are sent in, it will take 8 weeks + to process it. The season has changed by the time they get to your bag, and they reject a lot of the clothes because it is out of season. When you purchase clothes delivery is within a reasonable amount of time.
From personal experience and in the best interest of the public, I cannot recommend this company for numerous reasons.
Scam site that sells things that are fit for the trash or came from the trash that no thrift store would accept or sell.
If you don't want to make money, use ThredUP. If you want to make some money, don't use ThredUp. It took six months for them to "list" my items and I got about 50 cents. Not worth it.
Dang it I really like the clothes from here but it takes almost a month to get them. I didn't know fed ex could be so slow. I actually had an order ftom China that got to me faster then thredup. And they never respond to emails.
Answer: Don't bother. I got 80 cents for a whole bag of good condition name brand clothes.
Answer: I've actually emailed their customer service to show them how many negative reviews there were on this site and they did not care at all. They just quoted their policies. I'm sure they will go bankrupt soon enough...
Answer: 1% but they trash the expensive stuff (or am not sure what they do with it) and sell the cheap stuff. So i sent 2 bags with over 20 items, and got total 25$. I had antik batik dress, anthropologie clothes, jcrew, christian lacroix, etc. and they trashed the expensive (new condition) brand and listed cheap things. I will not send them stuff again, it was very hurtful.
Answer: Because they essentially steal your clothes and then sell them for a profit. You get hardly any payout, but they gladly take all your clothes and sell them for a big mark up.
Answer: Of course buyers are satisfied. They are getting other peoples' brand-name, like-new clothes that has been stolen by ThredUp. Buying from ThredUp just supports their dishonest and shady business practice.
Answer: I almost always sell on eBay first. Then when I don't feel like hanging on to the clothes any more and just want my closet space back and they have been on eBay for months, I will send to thredUP. I don't even send in that high end of items and I will usually get $16 and up per bag. So to me, it's a last resort, but I usually can expect something even if it's a little. I LOVE thredUP for buying. Use their upfront calculator to see what items they take. They will say 50 cents to 1.00 per item so it is not hidden info. There is always the return option where you can get your entire bag back for $12.99 as well. Everyone who has nice stuff they'd want back should opt for this method always.
Answer: They sent me an email and put the money on my thred up account so I can buy something. I was do disgusted I gave up on the whole thing
Answer: Because I sent in 575.00 worth of clothes and recieved 8.00 in credit, half of them had tags still on them and were high priced items. When I asked for proof why they did not take them in they said they had stains on them. I asked for pics because they were brand new, they squirted water on them and took a pic. It takes a couple months to even get your credit and when you buy womens clothes, half the time I was sent stained or childrens sized clothes, TWICE is a much better company.
Answer: Honestly this company is not choosing to accept a lot of product that could easily be listed. I have sent bags and bags, including valuable pieces... cashmere sweaters, high end items of considerable retail cost and relatively recently produced. When questioned I am given the response that the items were not in as good a shape as they wanted them to be. That their buyers should be able to buy perfect product. My take on this is... if it's a 200 dollar cashmere sweater and the purchase price is under 10 dollars, a few pills on the fabric should be a non issue! Period. I question what is going on, frankly, as many do. Too much disappears with no explanation, many bags go into complete reject status. I genuinely am concerned that there is a story here and may become apparent after a while. Only time will tell.
Answer: Not worth it unless you have stuff priced over $40 and can get 40%. There percentages are ridiculous for lower priced clothes. You can order return assurance for about $12 but be prepared to get a bag back with your items stuffed in like garbage. They do not even take the time to fold things nicely even though you pay for this service.
