ThredUp's reputation is marred by significant customer dissatisfaction, particularly regarding the selling process and customer service. Many users report feeling misled about item valuations and processing times, leading to frustration over perceived exploitation and lack of transparency. While some customers appreciate the variety of products available for purchase, issues such as delays in shipping, inadequate communication, and poor handling of returns overshadow these positives. Overall, the sentiment leans heavily towards disappointment, prompting many to recommend alternative selling methods and express reluctance to engage further with the company.

I tried ThredUp for the first time. Having read about the standards they insist on I figured buying from them could be a pleasant experience. Wrong.
Let me state that I am a Large, not Extra Large, not Medium. Everything I ordered was Large(L). From seven items only one fit. Sending back the six feels expensive when I'm not to blame. I've sent them anyway.
Some of the items smelled bad. One skirt must have belonged to a heavy smoker. Another smelled like it still has detergent in it. One skirt is so old the the label is washed away. This one has an elastic waistband that has been replaced poorly.
I can't and will never trust the quality of ThredUp.
Great service, products exactly as described and in excellent condition. Love ThredUp! This was my second purchase.
I sent in a huge bag of clothes. They kept 7 items, one brand new pair of BKE jeans value 78.00, Joe's jeans, worn twice value 100, a pair of shoes worn once, a new without tags skirt and shirt and a Vince Camuto leather bag (paid 199.00). They gave me 20.00 for all 7 items... then they took out 9.99 just to set aside the items they didn't want and then charged me another 4.99 to send the back back so they are giving me 5.00 for items they will sell for 200. Please don't send them your clothes. Sell them at a garage sale or donate them for a tax deduction. They are crooks.
I have sent over 10 bags to thredup in the last few months, name brand items like LOFT, Ann Taylor, Coach, Clarks. Many of these items were brand new, with tags still attached, as I lost a lot of weight. If you want to get a few pennies for hundreds of dollars worth of merchandise, then look no further than Thredup. They basically steal your items and give you pennies in return. I have learned my lesson.
I sent two huge clean out bags to them and I made $1.25. I am extremely unhappy, feel used and mislead. I could have made more money selling those clothes, shoes etc at a yard sale in my front yard on a rainy day...
I love thredUP. Delivery is prompt, items are exact, and sizes are accurate.
Awesome clothes and shoes! Like new. Thanks so much
Love the option of getting rid of stuff while I find new fashions to freshen up my style!
Excellent products, large selection, great prices, fast shipping! Love shopping with Thred-Up! A+++++ rating from me!
This is a great find for those of us who like to thrift from home... The selections is vast, in fact almost overwhelmingly so. I think the one thing they could do is put a date that the item was entered, that way if you are scouting daily you only have to search new items for that day. Otherwise great site..
Don't waste your time! I had the same experience as Julie another reviewer. Packed a bag with my assistant of over 60 designer articles of clothing in the first bag--looking to make some quick cash. It took two months for them to get back. They accepted 4 articles at $25.80 and after all their administrative fees I made a whooping $4.32, which they then take 14 days to send. They try to get you to spend up your meager earnings on their SH$T. If they have already ripped you off once--why would you stick around so they can gut you twice. Anybody ready this--don't waste your time and energy--Just go to Goodwill or give it directly to a Women's and Children Domestic Violence Shelter. Everybody wins!
Love ThredUp. No time to scour stores and sales racks. Love having all of the fast changing inventory@ my fingertips. Love that you can return now!
I have found the products I've purchased from ThredUP to be consistently of good quality and condition and so far have been very pleased with product and service.
I was apprehensive but had a neighbor make a recommendation. I have been quite happy with my purchases. I have had some returns that were very easy and resolved quickly.
I needed quick cash a couple of months ago and I saw an ad on one of the morning shows about the thredUP website. The ad made it sounds so cool and all I had to do was send them new or gently used clothing in a bag that they would provide and pay for shipping. I figured that I had a lot of brand new clothing that I hadn't worn and also gently used clothing that were in great condition. I sent thredUP 16 pieces of clothing in the bag that they provided in April of this year 2016 - I waited for over a month before they contacted me via email and told me that they had only accepted 4 pieces from the 16 pieces and that they were going to give me approximately $3.50 for my total bag.
Needless to say I was so disappointed and I would never send them any other garments as there site is misleading... I don't trust them at all. They still have my $3.50 cents as now I have to buy an item from thredUP in order to get my meager credit. Fed up with thredUP!
The sweaters (3) I ordered were all exactly as described, fit perfectly and arrived in great time - in the adorable polka dot box! I'm truly hooked on thredUp!
I rarely write reviews, but I had such a crappy experience that I had to post this! I received my clean out bag for free and I was so thrilled I had so many clothes to get rid of. I packed in my designer jeans and tops that I spent a lot of money and packed that bag full! I was never told it would take them over A MONTH to go through my bag. I originally wanted to use this service to get fast money. After over a month of waiting they only took 4 items out of my bag for a whopping $2.10! Don't use this website such a waste of time you're better off stopping at your local goodwill
Nice purse, but it is absolutely not a shoulder bag
As always I paid a great price and was delivered high quality, stylish merch that went above and beyond my expectation.
And see if they can stay in business. They are ripping people off. They sold a few of my items, out of the two dozen I sent to them--all either brand new or very new--and they made $86. I got a payout of only $18.40. After I pay them for shipping the items to them, I will owe them money. Tell me how is that fair.
If none of us would send them our clothes, they would go out of business. I will NEVER buy another item from them. And I encourage all of you to do the same. Go to the Goodwill or Salvation Army thrift stores and give your money to the needy, and to put people to work. Don't give money to another wealthy Bay Area startup. It's absurd!
Answer: Don't bother. I got 80 cents for a whole bag of good condition name brand clothes.
Answer: I've actually emailed their customer service to show them how many negative reviews there were on this site and they did not care at all. They just quoted their policies. I'm sure they will go bankrupt soon enough...
Answer: 1% but they trash the expensive stuff (or am not sure what they do with it) and sell the cheap stuff. So i sent 2 bags with over 20 items, and got total 25$. I had antik batik dress, anthropologie clothes, jcrew, christian lacroix, etc. and they trashed the expensive (new condition) brand and listed cheap things. I will not send them stuff again, it was very hurtful.
Answer: Because they essentially steal your clothes and then sell them for a profit. You get hardly any payout, but they gladly take all your clothes and sell them for a big mark up.
Answer: Of course buyers are satisfied. They are getting other peoples' brand-name, like-new clothes that has been stolen by ThredUp. Buying from ThredUp just supports their dishonest and shady business practice.
Answer: I almost always sell on eBay first. Then when I don't feel like hanging on to the clothes any more and just want my closet space back and they have been on eBay for months, I will send to thredUP. I don't even send in that high end of items and I will usually get $16 and up per bag. So to me, it's a last resort, but I usually can expect something even if it's a little. I LOVE thredUP for buying. Use their upfront calculator to see what items they take. They will say 50 cents to 1.00 per item so it is not hidden info. There is always the return option where you can get your entire bag back for $12.99 as well. Everyone who has nice stuff they'd want back should opt for this method always.
Answer: They sent me an email and put the money on my thred up account so I can buy something. I was do disgusted I gave up on the whole thing
Answer: Because I sent in 575.00 worth of clothes and recieved 8.00 in credit, half of them had tags still on them and were high priced items. When I asked for proof why they did not take them in they said they had stains on them. I asked for pics because they were brand new, they squirted water on them and took a pic. It takes a couple months to even get your credit and when you buy womens clothes, half the time I was sent stained or childrens sized clothes, TWICE is a much better company.
Answer: Honestly this company is not choosing to accept a lot of product that could easily be listed. I have sent bags and bags, including valuable pieces... cashmere sweaters, high end items of considerable retail cost and relatively recently produced. When questioned I am given the response that the items were not in as good a shape as they wanted them to be. That their buyers should be able to buy perfect product. My take on this is... if it's a 200 dollar cashmere sweater and the purchase price is under 10 dollars, a few pills on the fabric should be a non issue! Period. I question what is going on, frankly, as many do. Too much disappears with no explanation, many bags go into complete reject status. I genuinely am concerned that there is a story here and may become apparent after a while. Only time will tell.
Answer: Not worth it unless you have stuff priced over $40 and can get 40%. There percentages are ridiculous for lower priced clothes. You can order return assurance for about $12 but be prepared to get a bag back with your items stuffed in like garbage. They do not even take the time to fold things nicely even though you pay for this service.
