thredUP Reviews Summary

ThredUp's reputation is marred by significant customer dissatisfaction, particularly regarding the selling process and customer service. Many users report feeling misled about item valuations and processing times, leading to frustration over perceived exploitation and lack of transparency. While some customers appreciate the variety of products available for purchase, issues such as delays in shipping, inadequate communication, and poor handling of returns overshadow these positives. Overall, the sentiment leans heavily towards disappointment, prompting many to recommend alternative selling methods and express reluctance to engage further with the company.

Don't sell!
November 1, 2016

How can you justify giving me less than 50 cents per item? You have sold 5 of the 13 that you kept for a total of $40.95. I got about $2.50. How can you do that? You definitely cheat sellers. I wish I knew how to warn others. This is horrendous and just plain WRONG! For shame...

I should have donated my clothes to a shelter... instead, I netted $4.75 on 16 items of clothes I sent in. Half had tags from stores like Loft and Nordstroms. Despite their reasonable prices on clothes, I will never shop again. I don't like businesses that thrive on the backs of others.

With 8.99 shipping now added for bags sent in and lower fees for clothing I sell to them. It is no longer worth it. I will use a local consignment shop after over 40 bags I have sent in.

I sent in a bag with 12 items and 10 of them were accepted. These are name brand, excellent condition (mainly new) items. I received $7.25 for all 10 items but then they took out $8.99 for the bag fee, which leaves me with NOTHING. I got absolutely nothing from sending in my clothes. These people are crooks! I will NEVER buy or sell again. They lost all of my business!

Please consider reading the BBB reviews before you proceed with selling items to this company. I wish I had before a co-worker recommended I try it so I cleaned out some items that I hadn't worn in a while including a few small hand bags. It took them about a month to process my bag, which had about 20 items in it and they took 6. Gave me $7.00 after the $10.99 cost for the bag and they have listed the items for a total of $90 to sell on their site. I get the concept, but if you are looking to make any $$ don't bother. A local consignment shop or good will would be just as easy. Think before you waste your time. I'm sure the site owner is doing quite well. Just beware, don't set your expectations very high.

DO NOT RESELL HERE
October 27, 2016

I calculated the total resell costs listed by thredup of the items accepted from my bag- more than $170. Yet, my payout (minus the ridiculous 10.99 shipping and handling fee) was less than $5. That is absolutely ludicrous. On top of that, the processing time for my bag was over a month and ended up happening more than a week after it was estimated on the website. There are resell services that are faster, yield higher returns and don't make you pay for shipping and handling. Even donating used clothes to charity could prove more cost effective as a tax write-off. Very disappointed.

Don't expect to get rich
October 29, 2016

Don't expect to make much money on anything, truly pennies on the dollar. I have sent mostly new items with tags on them only to receive less than $20 in credit. I have bought a few items with my credit ( mostly hand bags) and have enjoyed them. A few were not what I expected, but overall I was pleased with purchased merchandise.

NOT WORTH IT!
October 26, 2016

Web site is impossible to navigate -- too many glitches! Also, customer support is virtually nonexistent. No phone number! I can't log into my account. Keeps telling me to set new password, then won't allow me to do it!

FED UP! NOT WORTH IT!

Wrong size sent!
October 26, 2016

I got a size 20 for a size 14. I recieved a girls size 14 for a women's size 14. Then I emailed for a return label and never heard back? I liked the concept it just needs fine tuned and more than 14 days to return if a problem.

I was pleasantly surprised to open my thredup package and find that i liked the four tops i'd ordered even more in person than on the website! This has never happened to me in my eight years of online shopping and might have something to do with the lack of an 'outfit view' option on the website (where you see the clothes on a model instead of a headless mannequin). The textures and colours of the items were exactly as i'd hoped they'd be (beautiful), and nothing was visibly second hand. My only gripe with the thredup experience is that sifting through the products to find something i like takes a long time. Well worth it, though!

Life Changing
October 28, 2016

I'm a super busy cafe owner that needed a wardrobe update/makeover, but didn't have the time or money to invest in a traditional shopping spree. I'm also concerned about the amount of used clothing getting thrown away and ending up in our landfills. I've placed 2 orders and I've received so many great pieces that immediately elevated my style. Yes, there were several pieces that didn't fit, but it's a small price to pay to get many other perfect pieces! A few items I could have returned, but didn't do it in time, which is totally my fault. One piece was clearly a child's vest, but still, everything else was great! Now, I can search for a particular brand or article of clothing! So, so convenient. Thanks ThredUp!

Do not sell anything to them! They took 19 items of gently worn, top brand clothes for $16.00 and charged $9.99 to supposedly ship back the items excepted. This amounted to approximately $. 35 per item for some things that cost $40-$60 each or more! They sold one item of mine for more than what they gave me. I should have kept the itens for a yard sale or given them to someone. Don't do business with them!

Do not sell to them!
October 25, 2016

I had enjoyed purchasing from thredup so I thought I would sell to them. I have very nice well kept clothes. I added up what they were selling my clothes for and it came to $254. My credit? $27.10. I would have made four times that in a garage sale at a minimum! Do not waste your time. Also, I never review but this time I had to!

ThredUp is my #1 go-to for shopping for clothes and shoes. The quality is high and the prices are great. I am really happy that there is a good online option for reselling clothes and helping to reduce garment waste. That said, they are not good for selling to. They simply don't pay well enough.

Do not sell to Theda Up
October 24, 2016

They have had my bag of clothes over a month. No letter explaining the delay or apology. I had to write to them just to make sure they knew I was Alice and still looking for payment of my items or a return of some kind. I feel like my clothing I could've taken to an abundance of local resale shops have been held hostage by ThredUp. I will never sell to them again and advise you do the same!

Insulting
October 24, 2016

It's insulting the amount you get for your clothes/ shoes. I averaged less than $1.00 for some very nice clothes. And the items they didn't keep will be recycled. I would have rather given them to friend, especially the kids clothes. I will not be selling to them again and will think twice about purchase, knowing how little they pay people.

It's great to be able to try on -- and send back if the fit isn't just right or if the item is difficult to evaluate until one sees it. The option of free returns for store credit seems reasonable as well.

I would give all Five Stars if the website were a little more responsive. The sorting categories are well thought out -- but the results take so long to load or are so glitchy that it takes more time than I would wish. It must be difficult to present black garments, but the photos are so dark that it's impossible to see detail. Over all, it's a better use of time traipsing to brick and mortar.

I fell for the "clean out " bag slogan... sent them amazing quality NAME BRAND items. They sent me an email listing 4 out of the 15 items I sent. I questioned it and was told my stuff was not in resalable condition... I shop"consignment" as a rule, rarely ever buy new at full price so I know what I sent was worth a lot of resale dollars. I can tell you they are legalized thief's. I will never fill another clean out bag again. My thoughts are that they keep a few token items to appear online but sell the majority of items overseas.
I have purchased from them prior to my clean out bag experience and have received quality items. It's a bitter pill to swallow though when they rip you off. As a business person I do have to say that the owner/creator of the site is a genius! Have people send us a ton of expensive stuff, steal it, resale it, offer up pennies on the dollar and laugh all the way to the bank... lesson learned!
